[mou-net] Eurasian Collared-Doves, Polk County
I was just picking up sunflower seed in Crookston at SunOpta/Dahlgren's on about the 1200 block of Main St. and 2 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES flew over and landed by the road, across the street from the big elevators, then flew up to the power lines. Of all the times I've picked up seed there over the past few years, I've never seen them there. Pretty logical place though. Sandy AubolPolk CountyEast Grand Forks
[mou-net] Eurasian Collared-Doves, Ramsey County
Andy Nyhus, Dedrick Benz, and I just found 3 Eurasian Collared-Doves at the intersection of Bayard Ave. and Canton St. in St. Paul. I believe this is the long overdue first county record. [mou-net] Eurasian Collared Doves in Scott County
This afternoon I followed up on Brad Abendroth's post about a Eurasian Collared Dove near Murphy-Hanrehan. I was able to find 2 in the same area where he found one previously. This is on Murphy Lake Blvd north of Eagle Creek Blvd. There is a large farm on the west side of the road marked 17826. The birds were easily visible, one on a wire and the other in an adjacent tree. I finally found 2 Eurasian Collared-Doves in Montgomery in the vicinity of the grain elevators. They flew to a wire to the west and I was able to view them through the scope. This appears to be a first county record. Bob Williams, Bloomington -- The information in this electronic mail message is the sender's confidential business and may be legally privileged. Re: [mou-net] Eurasian Collared-Doves-Swift Cty
All: Do people still like EUCDs as they did while they were expanding their range, or are EUCDs these days looked on as more of a nuisance or unwanted, overly competitive, introduced bird. I know that yesterday, Sunday, when my party had fifteen of them during the San Antonio TX CBC they were not nearly as exciting to see as the one bird one of my part found four or five years ago. Thanks! These are very common in this county but Friday afternoon we found a flock of Eurasian Collared-Doves that numbered in excess of 28. They were in 2 trees that are next to the grain elevator on Hwy 12 in Murdock. Noticed them as we were driving by and by the time we got stopped and counted them some had flown to the ground and we couldn't see them so the count of 28 is low and there are more than that there. This town has a large open grain storage area that makes it easy for doves to feed. We suspect that places like this all over Minnesota hold these doves in the winter. A couple of years ago we saw juvenile Eurasian Collared-Doves in this town so they do stay and breed in these same places. [mou-net] Eurasian Collared Doves-Rice Co.
Hi everyone, Following up on a Eurasian Collared Dove sighting made on our CBC, I found two of them today just outside of Faribault! To get there, from Hwy 21, go west on 7th St. (stoplight by Burger King) and follow the road past the bait shop and keep right. Go under the freeway (not an exit) and follow CR 11 to the right, past where it forks with CR 38. About 1/4 to 3/4 of a mile, look for a yellow pole building on the right. On the left is Williams Meat Company. Pull into the yellow building's parking lot and just look around in the trees and also across the road for them. The man at this premises is named Dean Bauer and he's very friendly. Just tell him your a birdwatcher looking for the doves. Keep in mind that I have looked for these several times and had gotten skunked, so be prepared that they may not be present. Talking to the neighbor there on Saturday, she had stated that she hadn't seen them for a couple of days at that time. Just trying to prepare folks... Good birding! [mou-net] Eurasian Collared-Doves, Nicollet County
Around noon today there was a pair of Eurasian Collared-Doves sitting in a tree at the intersection of Third and Cedar St. in the town of Nicollet. This pair has been around since August, and this location seems to be the most reliable for ECDs in the county. A couple blocks north there is a grain elevator at which the birds feed. Other than that there isn't really much reason to do any birding in Nicollet County right now. I hope that changes soon. [mou-net] EUrasian Collared-Doves in Washington County, plus Harlequin Duck
I found three Eurasian Collared-Doves in the southern part of Washington County this afternoon 3/8/09. They were located on Neal, just north of 100th St., at the 1st farm east of Neal, north of 100th. Two were sitting on a wire and one was on the ground feeding. They were south of the gray buildings. At one point they flew across the road and into a medium-sized conifer on the west side of the road. At Point Douglas Park I was delighted to see the male Harlequin Duck! He was fairly close to me, so I took some decent pictures of him. There were also Greater and Lesser Scaup, Common and 1 make Red-breasted Mergansers and Redheads. Another birder told me he saw the Gray Partridge at Joan and 180th in Dakota County today. My hour and a half vigil at dusk failed to make them materialize.
