Customized standard Mozilla install and config?

2001-12-20 Thread flacco

I'm looking into using Mozilla as our default mail/web package, and I'm
wondering if it's possible to do the following:

- store user profiles in a user's home directory on a network, and have
Mozilla look there by default (mapped network drive)

- automate the process of creating an account. If the user does not have a
profile in home directory, I'd like to automatically create one there with
an account already set up for our IMAP server, requiring from the user
nothing  but a name and password to complete the profile and mail account setup;

- home page set to our intranet employee home page;

- our ldap server configured as an addressbook source;

- lots of other similar customizations like that which I haven't thought of
yet :-);

Ideally, it would be nice if I could create an install image that would
incorporate all these elements.

Doable?

Thanks!

ps - I would prefer to use Mozilla rather than Netscape for this.

I demand that flacco may or may not have written...

 - home page set to our intranet employee home page;

You can set the default home page and many other preferences by editing
the .js files in bin/defaults/pref

How to install Mozilla 0.9.3? I couldn't find the required glib on redhat
ftp. Any working mirrors?

Error on Mozilla Install

2001-03-30 Thread Neville Cobb

Installed mozilla 0.8.1 using mozilla-installer and experienced the
following error, but mozilla operates.

Error [-621] An installation module (.xpi) failed to install.

Curious as to what this may be or mean in respect to lost functionality
as everything seems to be OK.

 I've been getting the same thing for the nightlies. I've no idea what causes
 it. It's not even clear which particular xpi is causing the message.

I believe it's the talkback module, which hasn't been built correctly lately
due to server problems.

You can look at the install log files to obtain this information; they
are in the destination directory, I believe. Please do so, and file a
bug.

want to keep my Mozilla install seperate from my NS6 install

2001-03-04 Thread rob

Ok, here's the dealio ...

Running Win2K professional ...

I regularly download nightlies, and as we well know now, typically
they're 10x better than Netscape 6.01 even these days, more features,
fewer bugs, faster, etc etc etc.

For development reasons I want to keep Netscape 6 on my box, but I want
to run Mozilla .8+ as my general use browser. Here's my problem.

I typically download the ZIP archives (not the installers) for Mozilla.
These I put into a /software/mozbuilds/builddate/ directory ... so I
don't put them over top of each other in case I end up with a bum
build. I just run the .exe right from the file system.

Right now my NS6 is located in /program files/netscape/netscape6/ and I
run it from shortcuts, etc

Problem I'm having is that they seem to be sharing preferences, and I
want that to stop, particularly because there's a theme i want to be
using for my Mozilla builds which works great there, but literally
breaks my NS6. I want all the preferences seperate.

I know there's the mozregistry.dat file, but how can I keep seperate
preferences for the two apps? Is it only as simple as a different
profile for each? how do I set up a different profile (can i just use
the NS6 profile manager and create a second profile? -- i guess i'll try
that having just thought of it) Help!!

Thanks in advance,

: r o b

Okay, feeling stupid at this point ...

/documents and settings/administrator/mozilla

having more than one profile seems to solve the problem ... now i have two
questions ...

1. is there a way to share bookmarks?
2. what is the command line to automatically start with a certain profile? i
know i've seen it, can't seem to find it offhand now some like -Profile
"profile name" or something?

thanks
