i don't have a bugzilla account for mozdev, so maybe someone who has should file this bug? Re: Spellchecker
I don't think there is an easy way. The RPMs are all of Mozilla, not just the spellchecker. Spellcheck is essentially the only reason that I run a CVS build. If you have a tree, you just plop the spellcheck directory down in extensions and add "ac_add_options --enable-extensions=default,irc,spellcheck" to your .mozconfig...(irc being optional :) ) Jeroen Peters wrote: > Does anyone know how to install the spellchecker on linux? > > I found the link to the RPM on > http://spellchecker.mozdev.org/installation.html but this RPM is 26MB! > It seems a lot for a spellchecker.(the win908 xpi is 251KB). This topic has just been discussed over and over again. So one gets a bit tired and agressive if it pops up oce again. Bad luck for you. Mozilla just does not have a license with a commercial spell checker right now, so they ma not use the Netscape one. There exist bugs on the other hand to make aspell/ispell work with mozilla (which are opensource). You have better chances in advocating these (already filed) bugs, than simply demanding stuff. Nobody is against a spell checker in mozilla per se. sebastian

I mean, anything that stops computer kids from learning to type: i own j00 i am 3l33t is a plus in my book. In my experience, the speed at which things get sent in the digital age has made people much _less_ concerned about spelling and punctuation (esp. over ICQ and AIM), and thus a spell checker would be infinitely useful in that case. I mean, if it really bothers you if a spell checker is installed, you could always turn it off (or even better - leave it off by default and allow users to turn it on). /andrew

Since the Netscape folks seem to have been rather silent on this issue, despite numerous posts recently, I can only speculate. Since the Netscape spellchecker worked fine in Mozilla 0.9.2, I am guessing that someone decided that there were licensing problems and had the support stopped. Several months ago there was some discussion of implementing support for an Open Source spellchecker, but zippo lately that I can see. So it looks like nothing will happen unless someone volunteers to step up and do this implementation. (Note - this posting not spellchecked.
