Yes, I was talking of that. ;)

Thank you for the explanation about Maj key under Linux. I didn't know all
that.

Best regards.

Are talking about the Linux French Bambara Variante keyboard layout?

Ha, ok, yes, indeed funny to class Bambara as a variant of French.

https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bambara

It is estimated that about 80 percent of the population of Mali speak
Bambara as a first or second language.

And maybe the computers they use are similar of those of their old French
friends, with azerty keyboards.

Maybe too the azerty keyboard and his french sonority is more suited for
Bambara than the qwerty English one.

Interesting.

Hello Roland!

It is not only for bookmarks but for all Linux applications.
To type a number, with a azerty keyboard (like mine), on Linux and the
French keyboard enabled, you need 2 fingers.
One to press the shift key and one to press the number.

It is not a problem when only one number has to be entered, but if there is
a lot I prefer the "Windows-French-Keyboard" solution.
With this one, you press once the Maj key to set it on and then press all
the numbers using only one finger.

Imho Bambara uses the azerty layout keyboard but I am not sure it is a kind
of french

Hello!

Thank you for the information Fred. I never used bookmarks so I don't see
well the problem, but I will make a test to see.

I didn't know that bambara was a kind of french. Funny. :)

I've had that exact problem when I still used the Programmer Dvorak
keyboard layout. Default number row was actually symbols. You had
to press Shift to get to the numbers. It drove me nuts when using
the bookmark shortcuts in Lazarus IDE.

These days I rock a very different keyboard (Ergodox) and
layout (BEAKL-15). To see the layout and understand it, I recommend
you take the Layout Tour (button in bottom left of page). I have
a dedicated Ctrl+Shift key, just for Lazarus and MSEide usage. :-)

[MSEide-MSEgui-talk] Note for azerty keyboard user on Linux.

2020-01-20 Thread fredvs
Hello.

If you use a azerty keyboard (French for example), to type a number, you
have to do Shift+number.
On Windows, you may use the Maj key enabled and then you only need to type
the number alone.

On Linux this Maj feature is not enabled by default.

So you will have big problems, for example with the bookmark set/find on
MSEide.

To set a bookmark, you need to do Shift+Ctrl+number.
That is fine with Linux, it will work.

But to find a bookmark, you need to do Ctrl+number.
Sadly on Linux, it will not work because to do a number you need to press
the Shift key.

The solution is to enable, like in Windows, the Maj key for numbers.
And so to find a bookmark, just enable Maj key then do Ctrl+number.

Now to enable this Maj number feature you may customize your keyboard, like
explained here:
http://www.mobidyc.net/2011/06/le-clavier-a-chiffre-sous-linux/

But there is a much simpler solution, just open your
parametres-clavier-disposition setup
and choose as language "Bambara" "Français (Mali, variante)" and set it as
first row in list.

Yes simpler and working solutions come often from Africa.
