If memory serves well, you should press DEL or some key to bypass CF bootup and boot normally from diskette. With the fdisk you should do the partitioning and then all should work normally. Re: [MSX] IDE and Novaxis SCSI?
Hallo Hapzee > Does anybody know how I can use both ATA IDE with CF adapter and Novaxis SCSI at the same time? (in slotexpander) If you use them both in the slotexpander, leave one slot open between these to (or put something else in it) I have the best results when using the ide cartridge first. It is possible to use different harddisk cartridges the same time: Bert scsi sunrise IDE Novaxis SCSI Megascsi I use a gouda slot expander or an old MK/DKC slotexpander with external powersuply on a MSX TurboR GT The megascsi is in a cartridge in the computer, the others in the slot expander. I use the Bert scsi for a extra density floppydiskdrive (2,88 mb per diskette). This cartridge must be the first one because it simply doesn't work if it is not. It is the only device on the Bert, because the Bert has slow data transferrates. But then again, the Bert is the only interface who uses the floppy drive as a floppydrive. All other interfae do see the floppydrive and can use it, but you have to partition every disk with the according fdisk and then you cannot use it anymore on a normal msx diskdrive or even a pc... Second cartridge is the sunrise ide. With the fdisk utility you disable partitions, but enable at least one so it uses only this one driveletter at startup of the msx computer. With the "par" command you can switch partitions, so you can use all partitions on every harddisk connected to this cartridge. Third I use Gouda/Novaxis SCSI with rom version 1.59 you can boot from zipdisk and to be able to use it together with Bert you need a gouda which uses another set of io-ports then the standard version! Depending on the harddrive size it uses maximum 6 driveletters. By setting multiple harddrives to "no" you see one drive at startup, but with the "map" command you can still access all partitions on all drives. If megascsi is willing to work in a slot expander then it is better to use it as third harddisk-interface instead of fourth. On megascsi you tell which scsi-id is using which driveletter. You have to assign one harddisk to at least one drive letter if you wat to use it. When changing the drives, you have to reset the computer. megascsi remembers which partitions you have used last. Can be very nice, but also very annoying. When using so many diskinterfaces with harddiskdrives the internal floppy cannot be used anymore, but then again, I have a 2.88 floppy drive as first drive... Sometimes it can be a pain to get this kind of thins to work. Try connecting both cartridges to the primary slots instead of a slotexpander. When using some cartridges together I also have problems using these cartridges I hope you can do anything with this info. succes with your equipement. Hello > Anybody tried a CF Hard Disk? Sunrise themselves have used an IBM microdrive when attending the Tilburg MSX fair. > With Fat 16 you can go until 2Gb=2000Mb the same than a IDE Hard Disk. Not quite true. First you need at least one partition which is fat 12, from where you will boot and load the fat 16 driver. Might be another harddisk of cf-card though which contains this fat 12 partition. Second, you can make 32 partitions. so when using fat 12, you can use up to 1 GB maximum. When using fat16 you can use up to 64 GB, but I think that is a little bit to much to use... As a matter of fact I do not think it is wise to use that kind of harddisks on an MSX... greetings Maico Arts -- For info, see http://www.stack.nl/~wynke/MSX/listinfo.html

Indeed When clock chip info is gone, then novaxis tries to read it, it indeed gets often id 4 Novaxis is indeed the interface you could tell with fdisk which scsi-id was able to read-write to a partition. Bert scsi-interface however was able to tell which scsi-id can read write on which partiton, any partition. More computers can write to the same partition. And it had a dos utility called rights.com to change those rights temporary and or permanent. > It might be that this was indeed the novaxis interface and that the ID(s?) > that can be mounted on the MSX in read-write mode is(are?) stored in the > clock-chip. And as long as no value has been stored, the interface falls back > to ID-6 as being the only read-write ID and all others as read-only... I beleive that depends how the bits ware fallen when turning on the msx computer. Sometimes another cartridge can overwrite this same clockchip info to save its own settings. Bert scsi-interface also does save info in the clock chip. > So, it might very well be that the solution is: replace the battery for the > clock-chip and set another ID with the novaxis specific software... Replacing the battery might be usefull if the problem already occurs when turning the msx computer off and on and the settings are allready gone. > But then again, I might be talking complete nonsense now... You are welcome! > But that raises a new question: How do I change the rights to the SCSI-ID's > without destroing the data. As far as I know it is not possible. You have to set it with the fdisk program. And at the end initialize the partitions. Thus all data is destroyed... What size is the harddisk anyway? Which fdisk is being used last time? What might do the trick is initializing one partition at a time. The old fdisk could do this, but was only capable of making maximum 6 partitions and giving these access rights. You could then copy one partition to another, clear the partition with fdisk and ofcourse make it again with access right for host-id 7. And: why bother to change the access rights. You know now that you have to use host-id 6 to be able to use this harddisk. Greetings Maico Arts MSX-NBNO -- For info, see http://www.stack.nl/~wynke/MSX/listinfo.html

Hello Ivan > Any ideas? > Could it be the FAT16? I read somewhere that the CONCAT command doesn't > run very well with FAT16. I have also read that somewhere... you could try to use only disk1 to start with. If that does function, than you could try to concat on a computer without fat16 driver loaded (or using a fat12 partition on your harddisk and ofcourse the fat16 driver not loaded.) RE: Floppy cable not working?
Hello You have to twist pin 10 and 12 on the 34-pin floppy connector to change driveselect signals. You can (as Maarten already said) put a jumper over pin 33 and 34 on the motherboard of de computer and connect the flatcable on the other motherboard connector. You also have to disconnect pin 34 somewhere in the flatcable greetings Maico Arts MSX-NBNO > > I'm having a problem with the floppy drive cable I (finally) > got to connect > > the new PC floppy drive into my NMS 8250. I think you scart to composite cable only uses the composite signals which are also in the scart available... So the RGB signals do not reach the monitor. I welll that's not so true. after termination the bus is not completly closed so that no signaals can get true. Its is only a little bit weaker.like:in between a interface and HD(1) is like 2 meters of cabel. And HD1 is terminated.is hd(2) within 0.5 it's not a probleem. if it is longer than it's a probleem. Re: 360 disk drive to 720 disk drive????
Hello > Is is possible to change a 360 Kbs disk > drive for a 720 Kbs one in a Philips > VG-8235 MSX2 computer? That is possible, but you have to make a new cable between motherboard and diskdrive (see the MSX FAQ tosee how) and you have to make a new eprom for the diskrom (use the one from the 8245) since the 8235 is not able to use the diskdrive double sided. So it can use this double density drive. Greetings -+-+-+-+-+-----+----- Maico Arts [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] -+-+-+-+-+-+- MSX Mailinglist. MSX Beurs
Hello MSX people I see people keep asking when is the next fair. In 1996 and in 1997 MSX NBNO had oarganised a little fair in Nistelrode. Due to lack of time there was no fair in 1998 planned until now. Do we want another MSX fair? If so, let me know when you would like it to be. Also let me know if you are interested in having a stand on our 3rd MSX-Fair of MSX-NBNO. Do we want to keep MSX alive? Then respond by sending an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] to let us know what you want. Greetings Maico Arts [EMAIL PROTECTED] MSX Mailinglist.
