But okay, let's forget about this.

In this case, it's easy indeed (most of the time I use a 1x1
transparent dummy image, by the way). But it was rather an example.

And, I agree, completely offtopic. Sorry for that.

I was not talking about font sizes, Laurens. Please read more carefully. (And
read the other replies first, because the problem is for the bigger part
already solved.

The only thing is still that the fonts inside TABLEs is still the default
font, not the one from the CSS, while the rest of the document does have the
selected CSS font.

Yes. You can define the font-size in CSS, right? This must be done with
characters, like small, large, xx-large, etc. Well, there are seven possible

you can check html4.01 validation here:

Once it shows no errors, all browsers should display it the same.. well so far it
always worked for me that way :-)

Re: web translator japanese-> english ????

2000-11-12 Thread Alex Wulms

Hi Manuel,

I use the following in my stylesheet for code-examples in non-fixed font:
CODE {
  font-family: courier, monospace;
  font-size: 10pt;
}

And the following in the html page to make it work with old and new browsers:
bla die bla
more bla
another bla

Works perfect with all browsers. In browsers that do not know about styles,
the code example shows up in non-fixed font in the font-size of the rest of
the page (default for my pages is 12pt). In browsers that support styles, it
shows up in a non-fixed font with font-size 10 (a little bit smaller then the
rest of the page).

I have deliberately choosen a smaller font for the non-proportional
characters because in general, non-proportional fonts are wider (the
non-proportional i is much wider then the proportional i). Choosing a smaller
font compensates for this and makes the overal visual presentation much
better.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,
Alex Wulms

Seems like style sheets in Netscape don't have
a consistent support for fonts. For some reason,
I sometimes can't even set the default font.
After getting tired checking and rechecking my
style sheets, I browsed into Netscape site in
search for an explanation. I had no success, but
I can tell the Netscape browser ONLY supports
what's explicitly stated in Netscape's website,
because they don't say anything about what's
unsupported. I'd refrain from using style sheets
with Communicator until 6.0 final is released,
because its support is very good and consistent.
Actually Netscape Communicator still doesn't
support nested tags with style sheets, comple-
tely ignoring the styles. 6.0 will change this.

OR can I solve this? Or am I making a mistake?
