So in your opinion this release should be Ladytron not Various Artists?

I would like to clean up the OTS wiki page, but I dislike the idea of
"deleting" all documentation of our discussions (and all of Frederic's
work!). What do we think about moving the current OTS contents to
OperaTrackStyleProposal and then using OperaTrackStyle to document the
guidelines?

Yes. Or OperaTrackStyleDiscussion, since it may need a page to discuss
evolutions. I agree keeping track of the history is important. Thus
newcomers may see that some ideas were already suggested and why they
were not kept.

I agree that these have to be cleaned up. But I don't think a
guideline is necessary. Common sense should do the trick ;) And for me
that is: if the ReleaseArtist is clearly stated on the release (which
is for most/all of these releases), it should be set. Of course, also
a DJ-Mixed by/Compiled by AR should be created.

My intention was not to place even more burdens on you by having you make
test edits.
I have explained a bit what I *did* mean, and I have done it as a podcast
to save my fingers some typing. It's 5 minutes long (and no, it does not
have a MBID yet ;-) )

discussions, the alternative orderings etc) and then present this as a RFV

[mb-style] Albums compiled by artists

2007-03-05 Thread Rod Begbie

Hi Gang.

There are a few series of compilation discs available where an artist
or group compiles songs they like or were influenced by. Examples
include:

"Back to Mine"
http://musicbrainz.org/search/textsearch.html?query=back+to+mine&type=release&limit=&handlearguments=1

"Late Night Tales"
http://musicbrainz.org/search/textsearch.html?query=late+night+tales&type=release&limit=25&handlearguments=1

"The Trip"
http://musicbrainz.org/release/9e1c1458-717c-4daf-9d79-4605b90db517.html
http://musicbrainz.org/release/3a45f600-85ad-4671-9cb0-06be944ef436.html
http://musicbrainz.org/release/68b86c91-a55f-4aed-a3b4-15940f877bd2.html

Currently, these discs are sometimes filed under the compiling artist,
and sometimes under "Various Artists". Also, sometimes the "Compiled
by" or "DJ-Mixed by" ARs are set, and sometimes they aren't.

I'd like to propose a StyleGuideline to clean this up a bit. My
initial feeling is that the discs should be filed under "Various
Artists" with the appropriate AR back to the artist.

Thoughts?

Rod.
