 Hello,

It contains detailed information about Latvian movies.

For example, movie Ilgais ceļš kāpās:

When entering soundtrack works in Musicbrainz it would be nice to
allow to link to this DB. Field Mūzikas autors is for music

I completely forgot about this. I'll say I'm not completely sure about
whether it's correct to link it with other databases - since the database
isn't for the soundtrack, it's for the film itself. But I am wondering what
other people think - I'll point the soundtrack people to this, because any
argument about this would probably also apply to relating, for example, an
IMDb page to a soundtrack work.

Re: [mb-style] RFC: Add Latvian National Cinema Museum to the work database whitelist

2013-02-23 Thread Dainis Jonitis
Hello,

For theater plays and movies I create the MusicBrainz works as Song
Cycle. Then I can link individual songs as being part of that movie
or theater play. Probably it was not the intended use case for song
cycle, but until there is more direct way it works just fine for
tracking soundtracks. Additionally I use tags soundtrack, theater,
musical to mark these works as soundtracks and add disambiguation
text to say from which play/movie it is. Probably more direct support
for that can be added in MB in future.

For example 1973 movie Pūt, vējiņi! with Imants Kalniņš music:
http://musicbrainz.org/work/72d20747-8974-45f7-8924-74b8756357dc

And for same artist I think I've added all soundtracks (except some
animated movies):

http://musicbrainz.org/search?query=type%3ASong-cycle+AND+artist%3AImants+Kalni%C5%86%C5%A1type=worklimit=25method=advanced

All musical/movie/theater play databases can be useful because they
may contain the first release date, music/lyrics authors and sometimes
performers of the songs. Most likely everything else is not relevant
for MusicBrainz.
What I currently miss is the possibility to sort works in
chronological order, but there is ticket for that MBS-5714

Just my 2 cents how I use current MB features to store soundtrack related info.

... that's definitely *not* what a song-cycle is, and knowingly entering
wrong data is something an autoeditor really shouldn't be doing :/ .
Selecting a type isn't required, so *please* just add them without a type
(and if you want a soundtrack work type, send an RFC for it - I at least
would certainly +1 that). And please remove the type for any works on
http://musicbrainz.org/search?query=type%3A%22song-cycle%22+AND+lang%3Alavtype=worklimit=25method=advancedwhich
are not actual song cycles. If you're going to propose soundtrack as
a type, then you can probably wait a bit to see if it's accepted and you
can change them to soundtrack directly, but please, please, please, do
*not* add more soundtracks as song cycles.

Re: [mb-style] RFC: Add Latvian National Cinema Museum to the work database whitelist

2013-02-23 Thread ListMyCDs.com
+1 for the RFC. I'm always happy to see more data related to film scores
or any type of soundtracks in MusicBrainz. I'm planning to make an RFC
about adding soundtrackcollector.com to our whitelist but will wait
until some open proposals are closed.

I agree with reosarevok and recommend not to use wrong types for
anything. Tags should be good enough until we get something better. You
can use works to group pieces together like you already have done, but
then just don't select an invalid type for them.

Argument against my proposal related to film score type was that there
would be too many work types listed. Seems that in this music
encyclopedia we could have too much information. Just try adding a new
artist and you'll notice how none of the fields are related to music ;)
