Re: Automatic Generation of Sender-Adress?
At Sat, Aug 04 2001 [15:37 +0200], Gerhard Feiner aroused my curiosity with: have you tried setting both variables at the same time? folder-hook whatever set alternates='.*' folder-hook whatever set reverse_name nope. one by time. (should i try both?) Yes, because setting reverse_name doesn't make sense without the knowledge what addresses belong to you. Tschoe, Steff

At Sat, Aug 04 2001 [14:23 -0400], Kyle Knack aroused my curiosity with: Steff, I have always had the 'alternates' line set (I just modified it a bit to match better), so I just added the 'reverse_name' option. I'm gonna guess that it's probably something to do with some of my other settings, and I'll figure it out eventually. Just hoping maybe someone went through this before and stumbled on some conflicting options ;) The only thing that overrides reverse_name is set [EMAIL PROTECTED] - as far as I know. But you have mentioned in a previous mail that you have commented that out. Have you readded your set from= line after reverse_name doesn't seem to work, or is there another one? Tschoe, Steff

Forwarding mails with attachments
Yes, I know the manual says that you should use 'bounce'. But isn't there a better way? Users usually won't understand whats happening when you 'bounce' a mail to them, because it looks like its the original author who sent the e-mail. So, is there a better way forwarding e-mail with attachments? - Morten. -- Morten Brix Pedersen [EMAIL PROTECTED] - http://www.wtf.dk/hp/ Copenhagen, Denmark. -- Programmer, Scout, Geek.

Thus spake Morten Brix Pedersen ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): So, is there a better way forwarding e-mail with attachments? Here's what I use: message-hook . set mime_forward=no message-hook ~h multipart set mime_forward=ask-yes By default, all messages will be forwared inline. However, if the string multipart appears in the headers (meaning that it's got attachments), then it will forward the message as MIME, i.e. as a message with the original (and its attachments) attached. It will assume that I want to do that, but it will still ask me, in case I want just a portion of a plaintext message that has an HTML attachment, for example. multiple POP accounts?
I am a newbie and probably this is a FAQ. Would you excuse me and my poor english. I know Mutt is able to fetch mail from various POP accounts, without fetchmail but I don't know how modify my .muttrc file to do this. I added new lines for every accont with set pop_host *** set pop_port 110 set pop_pass set pop_user * but Mutt reads mails only from last POP in the file. Can you help me? Thanks. Giuseppe.

If so, look at the headers and make sure the To: header is being set correctly. If it is, you may have a problem with your MTA (sendmail, postfix). Re: Automatic Generation of Sender-Adress?
Actually, to be very specific, I had my From: set in a my_hdr line, but yes, that's been commented out. The only other thing in my configs containing the word from is 'set envelop_from', which doesn't seem to affect it since I turned that off and tried again =( If anyone out there wants to take a look at my configs, I'd be glad to pass them along. On a side note, is it possible procmail is affecting this in anyway ? I'm not doing any header rewriting, just the normail mailbox filtering and the such. Thanks! Question about the VVV nntp patch - design issue and comments.
Hey all. I am using the VVV NNTP patch with mutt 1.3.20. I am noticing some odd behavior - more like behavior I kind of disagree with. When I connect to an nntp server, Mutt checks for new messages and new newsgroups. Due to the nature of nntp, coupled with M1s 'who the hell uses usenet anyway' attitude (LOW priority), this can be a little slow. Of course it is necessary. However, EVERY SINGLE time I switch newsgroups, Mutt checks again for new messages and new newsgroups. It seems that one time checking for new newsgroups when connecting to the server should be enough. As for checking for new messages, I guess that could be arguable, in the interest of letting you know that a new message has shown up on one of your subscribed groups, but . . . And even if a couple new groups show up in the half hour I spend on the groups, chances are they are bogus groups, or just another porn group. It won't kill me to miss it this time around, and it really slows the whole thing down. Does anyone else using the NNTP patch notice this? TIA Lou PS: I'm not trying to badmouth the VVV patches or their brilliant author :), I'm just wondering if there weren't a couple considerations missed in the initial design that might be revisited. Overall, I love the functionality, and without it I would probably just do without the NGs. -- Louis LeBlanc [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fully Funded Hobbyist, KeySlapper Extrordinaire :) http://acadia.ne.mediaone.net ԿԬ Bing's Rule: Don't try to stem the tide -- move the beach.

Lost mails - Help!
Hi to all! I think I have found a bug. When I send this mail: - From: Heidi und Andy Spiegl [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Bcc: Heidi Spiegl heidi, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: test nothing - then the mail simply disappears! What's more when I put more addresses in the Bcc-line I don't see ANYTHING in the syslog either. Just: Aug 5 23:34:58 hamster sendmail[1703]: f764YwqY001703: Authentication-Warning: hamster.int.radiomaranon.org.pe: spiegl set sender to [EMAIL PROTECTED] using -f Nothing more than that and the mail DISAPPEARS. But when I don't include Heidi Spiegl heidi in the Bcc-line then everything works as it should! This is pretty annoying because I have no idea how many mails have already disappeared this way. So I got to find the error. Please tell me if I can provide any more information to find this bug. Or is it a bug of sendmail? Please help! I am using sendmail version: 8.11.3+8.12.0.Beta7-8 (from Debian) and mutt version: 1.3.15-2 (from Debian, too) Thanks for any pointer, Andy.
