[MLO] Re: MLO PPC "hangs" since upgrade to 3.0.0

2009-06-11 Thread Eberhard

What I'm seeing here is, that MLO on PPC does extremely blow files (on
PPC) in size.

My Desktop MLO file is currently arround 300 KB, while the counterpart
on my PPC (main memory) is not less than 2,6 MB.

On the other hand it's extremely slow e.g. cannot switch from outline
to to-do view without having the unit freezing.

[MLO] Trial version error - expiration 15 vs 45 days

2009-06-11 Thread Renmeleon

I just downloaded the freeware version less than 30 minutes ago.
Further reading, and playing with the trial version for about 15
minutes, convinced me I wanted to purchase it in the future so I
downloaded the 45 day trial of the Pro version. When I opened the
evaluation copy of the Pro version it said that the file was created
using the free version (the one I was just playing with) and that it
would expire in 15 days.

Should I uninstall both and reinstall the trial or...? Not sure there
is a way around this. Thank you for your time.

[MLO] Re: MLO & Dropbox

2009-06-11 Thread Colin A

Thanks Graham

Initially I had backups set to the same folder I was using in Dropbox,
but then before your post I changed the location so when I backup it
will do so to a folder on the relevant machine...will see how this
works...but thanks for advice, I will turn off if it seems
problematic.

And thanks for the opportunity to sign up via your link...but I was
already a dropbox user too ;-)

[MLO] "inherit parent dates" set by default

2009-06-11 Thread jaydog....@googlemail.com

Hello Andrey,

when creating new task the "inherit parent dates" option is always
enabled by default.
Does this behavior depent on the programm setting "inherit all context
from new parent" (i have set)?

Is it possible to configure that a new task has not automatically
enabled that option and it is set then with no start or/and due date
from a parent but can inherit the parents contexts?

I use Dropbox - and it works beautifully syncing between my machines.
It works best if you disable the automated backupsi MLO - because
Dropbox provides this facility as well (on all files). If you want to
join Dropbox you can use my referral link

[MLO] Re: Graphics Bug

2009-06-11 Thread Eberhard

Hi Alexandra,

sorry for not being clear enough, but actually you've answered my
questions...

Thought, that maybe I somewhere missed the point within MLO, but now
it's clear to me, that you've used a 3rd party program to generate
this nice looking icon bar.

Will probaly have a closer look to Macro Express during the next few
days... Just in case, would you probably be available to sharing your
(MLO) macro code?

Independently from that... I found your setup (order of columns, etc)
pretty interesting... Though it really differs a lot from mine...

Always amazing to see, how others are organizing their MLO system.

Thanks anyway for your detailed explanations,

Eberhard

PS. Yes, when dragging the icon's column to left of the caption, the
custom formating dos NOT affect that column. I confirm, what you
see...

[MLO] is it worth upgrading to MLO PC and pocket PC 3.

2009-06-11 Thread Chris

Hi,

Love mlo - use mainly on WM5 device, and a little organizing with the
desktop.

Only use for lists though and organizing these within the branch
system.
Has the pocket pc version got enough improvements to justify £30
upgrade??

TIA

[MLO] Re: Graphics Bug

2009-06-11 Thread Alexis

Dear Eberhard,

i´m not sure what you mean by HOW so i´ll briefly answer to anything
you could possibly mean:

- The colour coding of the tasks on the top has been done with the
Format menu in the Properties Pane. The error that formatting beginns
not until the captions column was provoked by dragging the 2 columns
contexts and icons left to the column caption. Can anybody please
confirm this behaviour?

- The indicators (red, blue arrows) in every tasks line are different
icons which has been assigned to discrete Importance, Urgency values
using the Automatic Formatting options of MLO.

- The Menu floating on top and always above MLO goes preety deep and
contains much more functions than you would think. Many buttons
contain further drop down menus to choose from. See file MLO My
Menu.JPG.

In this picture you see my defer-submenu (sandclock). There you can
push with one click the starttime of the selected task from minutes to
months into the future meaning those tasks would leave the To-Do List
for the choosen amount of time. BTW Language is German. I have similar
menus for choosing Due Dates, Reminders or Imp. & Urg.-Values.
Actually the most frequently used operations i´m accessing via the G-
Keys of my Logitech G15 Keyboard and therefore are not in the menu.
Those would be duplicating the task under mousepointer, toggling 3 of
my most important views, choosing from templates (new tasks) and so
one.

I tried to realise much of the missing functionalities i descriped in
my thread "Feature Request: 10 Features" of Jun 9 which sadly nobody
ever responded to (or read?).

I used Macro Express to do that. This programm performs mouse and
keyboard actions to achieve the functions mentioned above. This works
in a fraction of an second. Of course you cannot achieve everything
with a macro programm.

Thank you for your interest.
Alexandra

[MLO] Re: Multiple Instances How to?

2009-06-11 Thread Alexis

Hi Mark,

if you mean with reparenting the changing of the taskorder in the To-
Do List this would be the feature i miss most. Actually it has nothing
to do with multiple instances but would be of great value for me. BTW
it is something Outlook does with no problem if you set "Sort by" to
none. Than you can reorder tasks freely by drag & drop. I already
suggested that MLO could calculate (adapt) I & U values accordingly to
the dragged (new) position.

Don´t you really feel the need to an fast and intuitive reordering
process? In my company constantly new tasks can make look "important"
tasks created a week ago very "relative important" to say the least.

Multiple instances to view properties for multiple tasks at once would
come second for me. I guess there would be a majority for my point of
view but let´s see.

[MLO] Re: MLO PPC "hangs" since upgrade to 3.0.0

2009-06-11 Thread vikram.sjn

Finally the MLO PPC did hang
1. When I was entering note for a task
2. Then after restart, again hanged, when selected mlo file to open

I had lost hope of using MLO PPC without a bug fix - but after another
restart I very patiently waited, on opening mlo file... and it did
work.

So it kind of seems that it has become very slow in certain cases

[MLO] MLO & Dropbox

2009-06-11 Thread Colin A

Hi

I was using an earlier version of MLO and after using it for a while
drifted awaylater I got into GTD and started using various systems
and recently I was reminded on MLO and I'm currently checking out the
strengths and weaknesses opposed to my current online system (which is
great but lacks some of the advanced features of MLO and is
online...without an offline version).

I like online as I can work on it on any machine...but there are times
when I'm offline a lot then it's hard to add tasks, I plan to but then
don't get round to it after the event. So using MLO overcomes that
problem...I can run it on the different PC's I have access to (less
than 5)...but I want to make sure my file is upto date. I know I can
use a USB drive...but does anyone use Dropbox or similar?

It seems to me if I store my MLO file in a dropbox folder it will be
available on whatever machine I use...and provided I don't open MLO
before dropbox has sync'd this should work...right?

Any other good ideas / alternatives...or am I on the right path?

Thanks
Colin

[MLO] Feature Request:

2009-06-11 Thread Mrinal

Firstly, Thanks for the great product, MLO. I really love it, the way
it has made task tracking intutive.
The facility to create just any kind of task category / group and then
keep on creating sub (-sub) tasks is immensely helpful. IT will be
great to have the ability to schedule your tasks.

e.g., whenever I have to do anything, I put it in my MLO, under
suitable super-task. Let's say I have some 20 to-dos on any given day.
I want to organize my day in the morning so it will be great to be
able to drag some of the tass to a (outlook like) calendar control. So
I decide that I have to work on thsi urent report and may want to book
my timeslot from 2 to 4 PM in the afternoon. Similarly, other tasks
can be draged - dropped to calendar control. This will give a clear
visibility of how I am placed on a given day, and will help me much
more organized / productive.

:-)

[MLO] Re: Multiple Instances How to?

2009-06-11 Thread Mark Levison
Thanks Richard and Alexis - this was insightful. I don't share all of your
needs but at least I understand them a little better.

If you had to choose which to have first
1) Improvements to reparenting tasks in the tree (which is what I think
you're accomplishing with Drag and Drop) *or*
2) Being able to view properties for multiple tasks at once

Which would you choose?

BTW this the sort of situation where UserVoice would be very handy for the
MLO forum. We could very quickly see where the majority of the community
wanted effort invested on its behalf.

Cheers
Mark

[MLO] Re: Multiple Instances How to?

2009-06-11 Thread Alexis

Uhps, thats bad news. I think we are on the same side, Richard. 1.000§/
@%$()/ Values of Importance & Urgency doesn´t ring a bell to me while
the order of my tasks makes the whole difference. At the moment it use
this workaround:

I open the view which will display the task (appropriate context). I
select the task just a little more important than the new one and
duplicate it (CTRL+D). So the new task will appear under the old task.
I type in the name, delete the notes and make other adjustments. For
this the order of my tasks will be fine. But of course things start
getting complicated if i want to change the order of existing tasks.
For that reason i programmed a menu which contains 10 Buttons for
setting importance and urgency of selected tasks from min to max. Also
those values are indicated in every tasks line. (red, blue arrows)

See MLO Graphics Bug.JPG in the File area for more.

As somebody maybe interested in i added my own icons menu (top) and
urgency and importance indicators (red, blue arrows) per task.

Same version. Change the background colour of an task or group the To-
Do List than you see that the background colour and Grouping Headline
starts at the caption column.

Just uploaded the file "MLO Graphics Bug"

[MLO] Re: Multiple Instances How to?

2009-06-11 Thread Richard Collings

All I can say is Agree Totally x 3

Unfortunately, it looks as if we are in a minority. The focus of recent
releases has been on improving filtering and on formatting. I am hoping
that this work is now complete (as it is of little interest to me) and that
Andrey will turn his attention to some of these other issues.

On the views on the same file, I am worried that the MLO software
architecture will just not support this. As previously indicated Andrey has
never responded to indicate whether this is possible and where it fits in
his order of priorities (as far as I can remember). For me it is a top
priority.

And on the drag and drop in To Do list this has been much requested for the
reasons you outline - the computed priority gets you so far but then you
want to be able to order things manually. Particularly in my case as I can
never get things into the order I want using the urgency and importance
sliders. So also top priority.

I think Andrey has made one post to indicate that he is thinking about this.
However, I can see that it is quite a tricky thing to do.

It will be interesting to see where Andrey goes next and whether these two
things feature in his plans.

[MLO] Re: Graphics Bug

2009-06-11 Thread Sergey

I have icons column at the left in Outline and at the right in To-Do.
Tried to move Icons most left in To-Do, no problems, everything looks
fine.
Is it possible to provide a screen shot?
Also what version do you use?
