[MLO] Problem when pressing a key to jump to next task starting with that character

2013-06-30 Thread Gabe
Hi, I'm an existing user of the excellent MLO Light, and have been spending
a bit of time trying out MLO4, but have encountered a usability issue with
this newer version, with regard to navigating through the outline using the
keyboard. I'm wondering whether it is by design or not, as I can't find an
option to disable it. Thanks if anyone can help point me to a setting I've
overlooked! :)

Let's say I press the A key repeatedly. As expected, it cycles through all
tasks that starts with the letter A, allowing me to quickly jump between
them. However, it now drills down through collapsed subtasks that also
start with A means that a lot of completely irrelevant subtasks are
revealed, when I'm only pressing A to be able to quickly jump to another
task that I can see at the root level of the outline.

For example:

   - Some task
   - A task starting with A
   - Collapsed branch
   - Some concealed subtask
   - Some other concealed subtask
- Some other concealed subtask
   - Another subtask starting with A, that I don't need to see
   because its tree is collapsed.
- Another task starting with A

So in an outline like the one above, I would expect that pressing A twice
would jump me first to A task starting with A and then to Another task
starting with A. But instead the second keypress expands an irrelevant
branch that I have deliberately collapsed, and drills all the way down
because there is a task buried within it which starts with A. So my nice,
compact manageable outline has suddenly been expanded to show a bunch of
distracting tasks that I don't need to see, simply because they start with
the same character. I can't see any advantage to this, as I would just use
the search box if I wanted to locate a specific string in a concealed
subtask.

The beauty of an outliner of course is that you only see what you need to,
but this is compromised when keyboard navigation behaves in this way. I'll
make an analogy with Windows Explorer - if I were to press A in the Folders
pane, it would only cycle through visible folders that started with A, not
subfolders that were buried within other collapsed folders, as there would
be far too many to cycle through. The same is true when dealing with a very
large outline; it quickly becomes unmanageable to navigate in this way.

[MLO] Re: How to get rid of Top-Level Parent 1: abc and only show abc?

2013-06-30 Thread Dwight Arthur
Hi, Lorenz,
Your screenshot did not come through so I'm not sure that I know what you
are asking.

Are you asking how to change the text that appears on the tab? If so, you
should follow the instructions called To Rename A Workspace in the MLO
Users Guide, page 51. You will find a lot of other helpful information in
the users guide as well. If this is the wrong question, please ask again.
Your screenshop will come through if you send it as an attached file rather
than pasting it inline in the text of your message.

Anyhow, here are the instructions:
-Dwight

*To rename a Workspace*
1. Right click on a Workspace tab
2. Select Setup workspace... from menu
3. Enter new name in the popup dialog
4. Click any part of the main window to hide the popup window

 Dear All,

In one tab I have sorted all tasks by „Top Level Parent“. How can adjust
the view that the tab does not say: “1. Top Level Parent – MBA” BUT only
 “MBA”

RE: [MLO] MLO on Android: nearby tasks' notifications keep popping up

2013-06-30 Thread mlo
Hi, Robert.

I appreciate your frustration with waiting for a fix. In my experience the best
way to provoke the developers into spending time on this function is to have a
thorough discussion of proposed fixes, to be certain that we have fully thought
through what we are saying, have identified the problem areas and presented a
suggestion that will be beneficial to lots of users while being detrimental to
very few if any, then posting the proposal on User Voice and getting lots of
votes. (If it turns out that you and I are the only people who care about this,
the developers would be foolish if they were to invest a lot of time enhancing
it for us.)

This all takes some time and effort, but if you want to try it, I will join you.

Let me start with this: I believe that you have proposed two different
solutions. Solution one: Mute any location alarm if the immediate prior
location alarm of the same type (arrival/departure) happened within the last xx
minutes. Solution two: Mute any location alarm if the immediate prior location
alarm of the same type (arrival/departure) was for the same location.

Questions:

Solution one: If I’ve created location-based lists for grocery store, hardware
store, and drug store and I’m walking through a business district with all
three stores, I will only be alerted to the first one I pass. Is that
acceptable to you? Or did I misunderstand your proposal?

Solution two: If I’m passing the hardware store and MLO alerts me to open tasks
at that location, but I don’t have time to stop right now, I will just walk on
by. If I understand your proposal, if I pass the hardware store again tomorrow,
when I –do- have time to stop, MLO will not alert me if I haven’t gotten any
other location alerts in the meantime. In fact if I only have one location set
for alarms, I will only be alerted the first time I pass it, all subsequent
alarms will be muted. Is that acceptable to you? Or did I misunderstand your
proposal?

Possible hybrid solution three, combining aspects of one and two: Mute any
location alarm if the immediate prior location alarm of the same type
(arrival/departure) was for the same location and happened within the last xx
minutes. Downside to this one is in places where the phone is switching between
cell towers and my established location is jumping back and forth between two
spots. This happens regularly to me near my home. If I would happen to have a
location alarm set for one of the two locations Google is picking, and a
different location alarm for Google’s other location, the alerts will continue
to sound incessantly. But maybe this is an unrealistic scenario.

Any user of Nearby, please join in: What do you think?

[MLO] overwrite protection - what direction?

2013-06-30 Thread David Rees
I just enabled CloudSync to try it out. I am now getting a warning that
more than 40% of my tasks will be changed, deleted, or added after the
sync. But it doesn't say if those changes are to my local file (which seems
wrong since is the only file I use right now) or the cloud?

I tried switching to local to remote then doing a sync to get the cloud
matched to my local file, but when I switch back to bidirectional I still
get the same error...
