2014-09-27 Thread Alexis
@ Christoph: Thanks a lot. Did not know i installed Outlook 64Bit. Now it
works fine. One more step to become a friend of MLO. ;-)

@ Dwight: Big Thanks again for taking the time. The only content created by
MLO in the notes ist this when you drag a mail in (in my case):

Outlook:FD9B42D328360A4DA383C6B578C95ADB24343400
Subject: Einladung zur JHV TC Martinsee e.V.
Date: 22.02.10 21:02:01

But i´m very happy that the link works now. ;-)
I have to admit that i still do not understand the MLO concept completely.
I do not use the outline yet but push tasks up and down in manual sorted
Do-List´s. This works quite good already. I prefer manual list´s as nobody
can decide for me what i have to do next. I worked with a priority system
years ago. The problem is that priorities are only good and valid if you do
not have lots of new tasks everyday. I will do my homework and would love
to talk about MLO with you on the next level next time. ;-)
BTW you use MLO on Android, right. I use the iphone App and could not find
a view which shows my manual sorted Tasklist. This is vitally important for
me. A random tasklist is useless.

Thank You
Alex

Re: [MLO] MLO - There is no second chance to make a first impression.

2014-09-26 Thread Dwight Arthur
Hi, Alex. I won't comment on the missing Outlook: protocol as Christoph has
thay covered.

I find that email content appears nicely in the task note for most of the
emails I drag to MLO but sometimes it doesnt. Plain text emails almost always
work some html emails do and some don't. I think it's something about
complexity. For emails ewhose content does not appear, a small tap on the
embedded link quickly opens the original email.

Let's talk about sorts. Through version three, MLO offered an outline view and
several to-do views. The outline view showed the whole outline with the items
in the order in which they had been placed - think of it as the order of
physical storage. Each to-do view showed a filtered selection of tasks in a
flat display sorted into a specified order. One of the choices for ordering is
"manual". It's important to note that manual ordering is not at all the same
thing as physical ordering.

MLO 4 introduced filtered outlines. Sorting in filtered outlines only applies
to the top level of the hierarchy. Any hierarchy below the top level is shown
in physical order. An unfiltered outline contains a "root" item that you can't
see and is the only item at its level; sorting one item is meaningless, so what
you get is a display where everything is in physical order.

When you drop a new task or tasks into a task list, MLO has to determine two
thing:where to place the new items physically in the outline and where to show
them in the current view. Placement comes first. If you have the cursor between
two items you will see a blue line. The new items will be placed as siblings
below the item above the line, or will be placed as siblings above the item
below the line, depending on the direction of the arrows at the ends of the
line. If the cursor is on a task, the task background turns blue and the new
items will be added an subtasks of the highlighted task, after (I think) any
existing subtasks. If the new tasks pass the filter for the current display,
they will be displayed according to the current sort criteria. For manual
sort, the desired positioning for the new items is considered unknown so they
default to the bottom.

Suggestions:
1. I believe that it would make sense to request an enhancement, making the
order for new task in a manually sorted view default to physical order rather
than "bottom". But there's no guarantee that this would be implemented soon. Or
ever.

2. I think you would get results closer to what you want if you used physical
instead of manual order. To do this you would need to create a folder and move
all of the task you are managing this way into the folder. Make sure that all
subtasks are in the first level below the folder - no additional hierarchy.
You can also move in other tasks as long as you can define a filter that
selects the tasks you want to display. Now, create a new view that starts with
the "All Tasks" view - zoom in to your new folder and then save the view and
give it a name. Make sure that no sort order is specified, so it will default
to physical. Then arrange the tasks into the desired order. Now you should be
able to drop new Outlook (or other) tasks into this view and they should stay
where you put them.

Alex, since Outlook 2013 is Office 15, you need to replace "Office 14"
in the above command with "Office 15". Also, if your Outlook is the
64bit version (mine is), then it must be "Program Files" instead of
"Program Files (x86)".

Re: [MLO] MLO - There is no second chance to make a first impression.

2014-09-25 Thread Dwight Arthur
Hi, Alex.

I hope that you decide to stay with MLO; you bring energy and clarity of
thought to these forums.

An RTF-capable note editor for MLO is a longstanding and popular request.
Because the project to implement it would presumably not be too big, and the
issue is apparent to new users in the evaluation period, one would think that
this would be a high priority. Unfortunately I haven't heard any indication
from developers the this feature has been scheduled.

In my opinion users who need rich text or attached files tend to use a hybrid
approach, creating a formatted task elsewhere and inserting a link into MLO's
task notes. Two programs often mentioned for holding RTF notes are Evernote and
Onenote.

I recently attempted to document the current avenues by which users of MLO can
attempt to influence new feature development. You can find it as post #6 in
this thread:

This is a known issue with newer Outlook/Windows versions.

A fix that works for me with Outlook 2013 is described here:

Should be probably added to the MLO FAQ.

[MLO] MLO - There is no second chance to make a first impression.

2014-09-24 Thread Alexis
I´m using the MLO 4.3.1 Pro (Trial) now for a week and would like to give
other users and maybe even the developer a first feedback as this is the
typical timespan where i (users) decide whether to use the product or not.

I´m familiar with many taskmanagers like Outlook, TDL and a lot Standalone
iPhone Apps. As i was looking for something which syncs continuesly to
other pc´s and mobile (Apple-) devices i took a closer look at MLO.

I like the sophisticated Filter, Automatic Formatting, Context and Sorting
Options. So you are able to display the relevant tasks depending of time
and loaction. The Workspace concept is a real time saver. I never worked
with an taskmanager that autonomously put the tasks in order by urgency and
importance, although i don´t use that calculation yet. The userinterface
appears light considered the functionality build in.

*SO FAR SO GOOD BUT. . .*

In our complex world it´s vitally important that taskrelevant informations
attend the workflow of your task. How easy it is to work when all
information you need is at your fingertips. Often you drag relevant
information in the notes of your task. Or you start writing a memo in MLO
which you later refine with MS Word etc.

That being said i seriously doubt one of this is possible whith the Notes
concept of MLO. I searched for a switch to activate the Rich Text Editor
but couldn´t find it. It´s unbelievable that i can not even underline a
word!! But it gets worse. With TAB-Button you leave the notesarea! With the
secret hotkey CTRL + I you get TAB functionality. I´m sure most users don´t
know this. With CTRL + DEL you do not delete the word right from the cursor
like in 99% of every Texteditor or Website. Instead you delete the entire
task!! I don´t now if i ever get used alone to that huge limitation.

If you drag an Outlook Element in a task is created containing an link. But
when you click on the link you get "The operation system denied access to
the specified file."

I use MLO on two pc´s now. I ex-, imported my themes but it seem that other
settings like hotkeys are impossible to transfer, right? Where are those
settings stored. How can i adapt a second pc?

If you choose manual sorting and reorder tasks manually that order of tasks
is destroyed if Sorting is activated. Even if the tasks do not have the
sortingparameter or that parameter is equal for each of them!

So thanks for reading up to here. What do you think? Did i overlook
something? Is anyone getting happy with the text "editor" in Notes? Is
there hope MLO get rid of those flaws in the future? Has been anything
announced yet? I would like to decide soon whether to use oder discard the
product.

Thank You
Alex
