Newbie question: UPDATE
To those thinking of answering this question, There is additional information. For some reason, I found out that the version of PHPMyAdmin at my web hosting provider was missing the Insert data from a text file into the table feature found at the bottom of the page after clicking on the name of the table. I thought that the reason for this was because they were using an older version of PHPMyAdmin, so he was kind enough to download and install the recent stable version into a folder under my hosting account via ftp. He told me this copy was for me alone to use, since he could not upgrade it for the entire system. After I hung up with him, I launched the version of PHPMyAdmin he installed for me and went to look for the feature. Unfortunately, the feature was still not there! Is this feature special, an add on to PHPMyAdmin? Or should it be there with the standard installation? If it is special, where can it be found? Thank you for your help. FW: What development environment?
Hello, I am a website designer and am committed to learning how to create database driven websites. Currently I am thinking about using php with MySql, but was wondering if there were any more compelling development environments such as visual studio.net, asp, and or java. Based on the experience of users on this list, can anyone tell me what they prefer and why? What do most people use here? Joe.
Innodb?
Hello, I am just starting with MySQL and PHP, but this discussion about innodb has rather piqued my interest. Can someone please give a brief explanation as to what it is. Cheers, Joe.
Can't figure out how to get it running
Hello, I am just getting started with MySql and PHP (previously was just designing web pages). I am very new to database-based web development. I installed IIS and PHP. I thought I installed MySQL as well but I can't tell if it is working or not. I was told if I make a phpinfo.php file and open it my browser I would see. Supposedly if there is a listing for MySQL in the list that would mean it is running. There is no listing of MySQL there. There are listings for other PHP items however which I guess means PHP is running. I saw that in the bin folder of MySQL there is a program called MySQLadmin. Whenever I try to run that a small black screen flashes momentarily on my screen (kind of looking like a command line window) and then it disappears without giving me a chance to even see what it is. Actually this happens with every program in the bin folder. Would someone please tell me what I need to do to get MySQL to work? Right now I am just trying to set things up so that I can start learning PHP. Please help. Thank you. RE: Can't figure out how to get it running
Thanks for your reply. I've done what you said. Unfortunately I get the message in the CMD Window: 'MYSQLADMIN' is not a recognized as an internal or external command. Can you tell me what this means? I did run the installer earlier. Thank you.
