compiling + making source for 5.7 on alpha

2005-06-23 Thread Simon Tierney
Can anyone advise please, tried binary installation but other users have
reported encountering similar problems so I thought I'd try a source
installation.

Adjusted the pentiumpro flags out and configure reported no errors -when I
use make I get *** no targets. stop.

The makefile is in there, am I overlooking something elementary?

Can anyone help, please, when I tar -xvzf this file I am getting the error

Archive contains obsolescent base-64 headers
gzip: stdin: invalid compressed data--crc error

and installation exits

I tried to acquire the Compaq compilers mentioned under platforms in case
it is a gcc problem, but the page is history.

Hi, Can anyone help please, I am trying to install 4.1 onto this machine as

Resource messagedlg-confirmation not found

So:-
I unchecked the 'install as windows service' and tried to start it

CONNECT TO SERVER ON 'LOCALHOST' 10061

So:-
I tried to start it from administrative tools, services, but I got the

Re: install failure on XP toshiba laptop

2005-01-13 Thread Simon Tierney
Thanks for your suggestions, everyone, but I have followed the manual and
repeated the installation process (with it's very nice GUI, by the way) more
than once, and I still have a problem.

Perhaps it isn't that simple after all.

I had similar problem on this laptop when I installed version 4, and I see
now the same message in event logs that The MySQL service failed to start
due to the following error: MySQL is not a valid win32 application.

I had no problem installing and running version 4 of the server on a desktop
running XP. So I think the issue is with the laptop.

At the beginning of the laptop installation XP whines that MySQL is not
digitally signed or something, but when I instruct it to ignore that the
installation commences.

I noticed that the MySQL service records the old location of the executable
for the server but you can't edit that.

So I chose MySQL4 as the service name during re-installation -but it refuses
to create the service. So I chose port 3307 in case that was causing a
conflict -but still it refuses to create the service.

If anyone thinks they know the solution to this problem (be it trivial or
not) I'll take the risk that the answer might confuse me, because it's not
in the manual.

Thanks for any help.

 Hello.

What program have you started? It looks like it was mysql client program.
Start mysqld instead. Have you been at:

time recording

2002-05-09 Thread Simon Tierney

Has anyone on this list used MySQL for time recording?

I am a lawyer considering using it for recording time spent on cases where
there are many to many relationships between cases, caseworkers, and
charge-out rates.

I posted to the list under the subject lookup and I learned that one
cannot dynamically link tables so I am enquiring if anyone has done it
before / reckons they know the best way to go about it.

case1 is worked on by A for 30 minutes + B for 60 minutes whose charge out
rates are £10 per hour and £15 per hour;
-what is the most efficient way to get
-£20 due on case1;
-£5 work value due to A;
-£15 work value due to B.

given that caseworkers might go A-Z and beyond, any combination of
caseworkers might works on any of the cases, there might be a large number
of charge-out rates, and these might be related to different case types and
different grades of caseworker.

I realise this is essentially a design question, but given the way MySQL
works I just wanted to check if anyone out there has done something similar.

Any (friendly) suggestions would be welcome.

Simon Tierney
