Hello, This is one of the last remaining issues with my system. When I'm watching a recording or livetv, I can change the volume, but the volume doesn't actually change. [mythtv-users] ivtv driver update
So, in my usual foolish way of not letting good enough alone I am considering going down the route of upgrading my ivtv drivers (0.3.7b possibly). Mainly this is so I can try to get XMame up and running on my FC3, 350 rig. My current setup is straight from Jarod’s guide. So my question to the list is this. Is there a good how-to on the procedure for taking a stock ‘Jarod’s Guide’ machine to new ivtv drivers? I’m looking at the ivtv site and although there are some instructions on compiling up drivers from source I was wondering if there is perhaps a simpler way? Is there anyway to get the new driver through apt-get and ATRPMs or do I need to bite the bullet and work things out from source? With a new install, you should need to do anything except provide a mount pount in /etc/fstab. The lvcreate/pvcreate etc is not necessary. Basically you've gone and repartitioned your drive (not exactly, but close) All that is needed something like # LVM initialization, take 2 (it could be on top of RAID) if [ -e /proc/lvm -a -x /sbin/vgchange -a -f /etc/lvmtab ]; then action $"Setting up Logical Volume Management:" /sbin/vgscan && /sbin/vgchange -a y fi This is from RH7.3 so it's definitely in FC3 (and FC4 since I use FC4). Technically, this is against the T's&C's of the DISH user agreement (but, I don't have a land-line phone, and my cell phone won't work for it), but they won't do anything--except, last I checked, if you have a dual-tuner model (which you do--the 322) for which you only pay a single-tuner price, they will begin charging the extra $4.95/mo (or whatever it is) for the second tuner if you unplug the phone line (basically, when they stop hearing from your receiver, they start charging for both tuners). Or do I pretty much just need to write a quick cronjob that sends SELECT via my IR Blaster every night at 4am? Probably your best bet to save the $4.95/mo. How does everyone else handle this? I don't connect a phone jack to my single-tuner 311 or my single-tuner 4922, but I pay an extra $4.95/mo for the second receiver... [mythtv-users] DVB channel problems
I have two DVB cards that are working fine in my Debian, but I have a small problem and I couldn't find answer. When I scan channels from mythtv-setup program the channels are added to "channel" instead of "dvb_channel" in the database. This sucks because now i cant record from the same MUX with only one card. I compiled Mythtv from scratch with DVB enabled but it doesn't differ from the Debian packages. Do i have to insert channels manually to "dvb_channel" and then delete "channel" items or am I missing something obvious? ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

Navigate to "Utilities/Setup", "Setup", "TV Settings", "General" and go to the third page. Set the check-box for "Re-record programs which have automagically expired". It's too late for the stuff you've already lost, but there's another menu page where you can erase the "already seen" records for episodes manually. and there it is. I knew Myth was too good not to have it in there. Also unchecked "Auto expire by default" while I was in there. I knew about the previous recordings menu, the check box for auto expire was a little deep to find on a whim. It probably would be a little bit more clear to create a group of "recording behavior" for settings like this instead of putting it in "TV settings-General", but then anytime you get anything this full featured (e.g. Linux, Windows, etc...) it gets tough to make it clear and obvious. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

Re: [mythtv-users] Mythtv Menu organization
I am in the final stages of setting up a myth system for my family. One of the things I decided to do was change the main menu...very easy. Just take the .xml menu files from /usr/share/mythtv that you want to modify and copy them to a /usr/share/mythtv/themes/ and edit. You don't have to copy any file that you are not modifying...myth uses the default files in those menus. In my case, I wanted the main menu to only have the functions we'll use the most, so I modified mainmenu.xml to say: Live TV Recorded TV Videos Music Pictures Weather Other Options I then copied the default mainmenu.xml to other_options.xml and edited out the features we won't use (like the phone). I edited one other file...library.xml I think...to remove the game emulator for now. Now, I just select my theme from the front end setup and away we go. As easy as that was, there is one "Tivo" feature I wish we had. Our Tivo remote has a button labeled "Live TV" and another labeled "List". Those buttons, take you to live TV or to the list of recorded programs no matter where you are in the Tivo system. I'd love to be able to configure MythTV to do that. (Excuse to speak Spanish, but a list of Myhttv in Spanish does not exist and my English is terrible.) [mythtv-users] User Job Issues
Hello all. I've tried to work this out over at the knoppmyth forums, since that's what I'm using (r5a16), but not a lot has come out of it - the thread is here if anyone wants a little more info. (http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5560) Basically, I'm trying to get nuv2avi to run as a user job, but it's just not working. The job will show in the "Job Status" page of Mythweb, but moves from Queued to Finished without actually having done anything. The problem really stems from the lack of information I've got about the user job command-line substitutions. The command I used at first was /usr/local/bin/nuv2avi -i %FILE% -o /myth/tv/%TITLE%-%SUBTITLE%.avi I've also tried appending .nuv to %FILE%, because I've got no clue what's contained in %FILE%, but it didn't make a difference. What appears to be happening is that the above string is getting passed to the shell literally, without mythtv making the appropriate substitutions. Which would explain why I find what appears to be a "No such File or Directory" error from nuv2avi in my mythbackend.log. The unfortunate thing is that nuv2avi doesn't let the user know what file it can't find, so I can't get confirmation that it's looking for "%FILE%" rather than the actual file name. Has anyone gotten *any* user job to run successfully? I've also had problems with running simple user jobs like "touch /home/mythtv/userjobtest.txt" That job hangs in the queue, and I end up having to remove it through mythfrontend. Sorry if this has been covered in the past - I've tried to dig as much as possible before posing this question. Tvtoday changed their webpages slightly, so an update to the grabber script is required; no new release yet, you need the version from cvs. See http://membled.com/work/apps/xmltv/ for more info. You can also 'erase' the digits by left or right arrow (haven't tryed up or down) this works for me as I have the sky channel guide switched off. I might have a look at your channel change prog as it could be better perfroming than my script. I have a PVR 350 and can check the sky signal status by using ivtvctl -I allows me to tell if the sky box is on or off, without trying to constantly turn it on. (So if I do play with your prog I mght make some changes regarding that). Ant. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

Re: [mythtv-users] Dish network PPV scripts?
You will want to modify the channel.pl file (If you use the change_channel.csh script). You will need to create another if statement and make sure to put = as ==. I used to have this working, but dont use it anymore and my hdd crashed, thus deleting my modified script. You can see how the other if statements are and with a little trial and error you'll get it. On 8/9/05, Mark <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: While we're on the discussion about the myth / dish network stuff, does anyone have a decent script to handle PPV channel changing?IE, when you select a channel that has a PPV playing, you have to gothrough a couple of extra button presses to actually view the content. It took a while after cable first came out to get an > analog standard (analog cable boxes didn't use to be compatible from one > provider to the next, either). This is how I have things setup now. I only have analog input to my PVR cards. I don't get any pay channels. Nor do I use the cable box as input to the mythtv box. For the moment everything I watch is available over the analog signal that comes in on the cable line. I could do with out the digital box. The problem the OP was relating was that cable companies are moving channels that some want to watch out of the analog set to the digital only set. If they do as the OP suggests and move everything to digital then the PVR cards become useless for the most part since you would need a digital box for each encoder. I guess the encoders could be simplified which should make them cheaper since they would only need to be set to channel 3 or which ever channel your cable company selects. It becomes more troublesome since you have to then have and control multiple digital cable boxes to get to the different channels. I don't look forward to having to pay extra for each cable box to have 3 or 4 of them to feed the mythtv box. Plus the added complexity of controlling those boxes. While I don't use live tv much anymore I would expect it would be easier in such a case to just have a cable box connected directly to the TV and switch to that for live TV. The utility of the DVR system would be less than before. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

[mythtv-users] wired or wireless mythfrontend on EPIA 10K Nehemiah with FC2 & kernel 2.6.8.1-epia1 and render_state: Assertion `render->mv_blocks' failed?
Hi all, I know that getting mythfrontend to run on EPIA Nehemiah is a struggle but I'm getting closer... I have followed these instructions for FC2 and successfully built and installed all drivers. I'm using CVS dates 2004-11-05 for DRM, Via X-Server driver and Via XvMC library. http://www.kingcot.eclipse.co.uk/unichrome/fc2/unichromeOnFedora.html I'm running FC2 with 2.6.8.1-epia1. This kernel is successfully patched to support 16K stacks as per http://www.linuxant.com/driverloader/wlan/downloads-patches.php. Eventually (once frontend runs ok over 100Mbps) I'm planning to run wireless frontend with Linksys WUSB54Gv2. 1) Is 54G wireless link wide enough to support wireless frontend? Or should I upgrade to 108Mbps wlan-g link? Can anybody share success stories about runninng wireless frontend on EPIA? 2) Can somebody post what should /etc/modules.conf and /etc/modprobe.conf files look like on EPIA box running frontend (either wired or wireless)? Also output of lsmod is useful to see. 3) What are the optimal/correct frontend settings for EPIA? This is really unclear for me. 4) Is there a way to 'validate' that you have all EPIA hw features properly in action after you have built and installed all (DRM, XvMC Via X-server) drivers? 5) Now when running cvs 0.18.1.20050523-1 frontend over 100Mbps and trying to watch recorded shows from backend I get this error message (output of mythfrontned -v playback, network) mythfrontend: xvmcvideo.c:202: render_state: Assertion `render->mv_blocks' failed. (Output of dmesg and lspci is at the end of this message) Here is more log file. Please ignore messages about /dev/dsp. My feeling is that it is all because of incorrect frontend settings on EPIA? Here in Bakersfield, CA, I have a friend with digital cable (I don't), one box and three TVs. It seems that the cable company sends the analog cable signal along with the digital ones. So she is limited to the "extra" channels on one TV (using the box) but has access to "expanded basic" (with ESPN, DISC, etc.) on the other TVs. So, if Comcast does the same, you could just go with one card set to record digital channels (through the box), and the others to the analog (directly to the cable as before). RE: [mythtv-users] OT: Comcast Chicago changing channel lineup, SCI-FI moving to digital only
Solution as I mentioned earlier is to use a monster backend with all the PVR cards and boxes attached, then build out mini frontends to attach to your other TV's. Off two inputs I could realistically run three TV's or more because chances are only two of them would be running Live TV. Then you can also share recordings, shared music files on a single monster server and so on. I already run three frontends with one backend and *ONE* PVR and associated box. I can do this because generally one is used for viewing recordings and/or videos... and when it's used for Live TV it's only because my wife and I have already gone to bed and feel like chilling in front of Live TV. Typically we don't watch Live TV any more though... we've become so used to not having to worry about commercials that we just avoid them where possible now. Only the kids watch Live TV any more, and that's kids programs that we don't record; our stuff is typically recorded during late night re-runs (most networks do that these days) and we never actually watch them "Live". Hell, last night we went to bed early and watched last week's Battlestar Galactica upstairs because we hadn't had the time to watch it yet. Having kids and a busy social life does that to you... we rarely watch TV any more "live". -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] on behalf of Brian J. Smaller and perl based. send_sky_backup Started from rc5.d/ This sends the Sky 'Backup' and 'Sky' signal every few seconds. This ensures that no 'red dots' are recorded and it powers on the digibox if it's had a s/w update. The locking allows the channel change to take place without colliding. change_channel Used as Myth's external channel changer. The channel change sends the digits. Then tries to 'erase' them by pressing 'backup'. Then it resends the digits and 'erases' them again. This ensures that if either set of channel-change digits doesn't quite make it they don't hang around for the first N seconds of the recording. Not missed a channel change in over a year. It gets even more expensive if I want to have 3 or 4 inputs (which is what I am aiming for to prevent recording conflicts, two inputs have eliminated most conflicts but still get some occasionally). To say nothing about having a stack of cable boxes next to the TV just to be able to get the content you want. Is there anyone that is pushing digital standards so digital tuners are standard in TVs and can then be standard on capture cards? ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
[mythtv-users] Recompiling glibc with optimizations reduces Mythtv's cpu usage.
I've seen one report of this elsewhere. What I was seeing, Mythtv Live TV consume an overall >99% of my 1Ghz pentium3 cpu resource on my laptop. During Live TV playback, I was seeing quite a few "prebuffering pause" messages from mythfrontend every second or so. The result was very jerky video. After recompiling sys-libs/glibc, with CFLAGS="-march=pentium3 -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" instead of just the default -O2, I'm seeing only one or two "prebuffering pause" messages. (Usually they'll occur during switching between virtual desktops.) I'm stilling seeing an overall ~99% cpu usage (and top shows mythfrontend only using ~60%). Another option I have, activating interlacing on my device: # echo 1 > /sys/class/pvrusb2/sn-7435104/ctl_interlace/cur_val At this point, I'm seeing Mythtv's cpu usage further drop down to an overall ~30-48%. (Top shows mythfronted drop to ~20%.) (One reason I'm seeing an additional 20% cpu spike every 5 seconds is due to gkrellm2.) RE: [mythtv-users] OT: Comcast Chicago changing channellineup, SCI-FI moving to digital only
I will say that using external boxes ain't so bad, particularly if you plan ahead enough with your installation to put a meaty backend in the basement for example. I plan to do this with "Version 2" of my Myth setup with both DirecTV boxes and a good backend with lots of drives in the basement (directly below my entertainment center), then just drill a hole in the floor for an Ethernet cable and hook to the switch I already have screwed to the back of aforementioned entertainment center. While I really disagree with the fact that the cable/satellite companies are forcing these boxes on you, there are easy enough ways to work around it. As for IR Blasters, nah... serial connection's the way to go and well supported in Myth. IR Blasters are usually more trouble than they're worth. This is one problem with this country today; nobody seems to have the balls (or money) to really take a stand against the rampant corporatism that threatens to destroy this country. I'm British, living in the US because of the perceived freedoms I saw half a world away 10 years ago. I find it telling when both my wife and I have discussed recently the possibility of moving back to Britain in order to get some of the freedoms back we've given up in the last few years. Don't get me wrong; I love this country... I just don't love what Corporations are doing to it. Sorry... So far as I've heard, only the SA3250 and the Moto6200 are supported, but your mileage may vary. My tech was very nice in that he stayed while I did my troubleshooting steps. Mostly, I think it was because he was interested in the technology. Best of luck! Please be sure to post which channels you can get. Stupid TW fact that I learned through all this: The "franchise fee" that is itemized on your bill is the amount that TW is charged by the local utility pole owners in your neighborhood to run cable over the poles or under the ground. Some villages/towns will subsidize the cost down as low as $0.10, other will be as high as $8.00. Luck of the draw, I s'pose. You should post the specific Zalman model number. This site is so slow I'm not going to spend any more time trying to look. I have seen a silent Zalman in action at Stanford university. They are gettign ready to use a number of them in their new CCRMA electronic music department. Pretty much dead silent. All heat pumps. The only noise out of the box was the insternal hard drive. External hard drives could be located behind a door for more silence. Downside of this chassis was that, in April when I saw it, it cost about $1K US. - Mark On 8/9/05, Neil Watson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > http://www.hexus.net/content/reviews/review.php?dXJsX3Jldmlld19JRD0xNDA3JnVybF9wYWdlPTE= > > Has anyone used one of these? [mythtv-users] Dish network PPV scripts?
While we're on the discussion about the myth / dish network stuff, does anyone have a decent script to handle PPV channel changing? IE, when you select a channel that has a PPV playing, you have to go through a couple of extra button presses to actually view the content. I was curious if anyone had written a custom channel change script that follows a different procedure if the channel selected is a PPV. For example: if the channel is 500-550, add the left, select, left, select to the end of the IRsend commands. mark ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

[mythtv-users] System hang with MythTV 0.18.1 on LV667T
I have posted this problem to the Unichrome list and am posting it here in case anyone has encountered the same problem and has a solution or recommendation. I have a Fedora (FC3) with Ivor's UnichromePro drivers. I have been successful in using MPlayer to playout all MPEG1 and MPEG2 files (including 1080i HD). I compiled MythTV with the Via VLD XvMC flag enabled. When I launch MythTV frontend, and try to play a captured program, (content captured successfully with an HD3000 card), my system hangs. Same thing with trying to watch live TV's. Preliminary information seems to suggest a problem in the XvMC setup, but I can't pinpoint the problem any further. (Don't know how to do it) Has anyone seen somehting similiar? If so, how to get past it? Thanks! Re: [mythtv-users] dish network + mythtv (Press SELECT to continue)
This sounds like a PVR type receiver. There should be an option in the menus to disable the power-save/off mode (I can't remember what it's called). You can also modify your change channel script to hit a cancel button before the channel numbers are sent. I have this setup to send POWER-ON, delay, CANCEL, CANCEL, channel num, CANCEL, CANCEL to avoid any pop ups that might happen. That may not be the exact IR signals sent, but you get the idea. The power-on has been added to get around the seemly random poweroff that's been occurring in the last few weeks. That's not the standard power/toggle IR code, that's the discrete POWER-ON code. I haven't missed a channel change in over 4 months now. # Endaf Jesse Guardiani wrote: Hello, I have a Dish receiver I am controlling via an IR Blaster. [mythtv-users] RE: Re: add skybox to my MythTV system
I ment that I created a script called skychannel.sh in /usr/loca/bin. All this script does is writing something in a file in /tmp/skychannel.test. When I restart the mythtv backend it writes the dummy output into /tmp/skychannel.tmp. When I change the channel in Live-TV mode it does not call he skychannel.sh to change the channel and also does not change from tuner1 (PVR350) to composite0 (PVR150) A interesting thing is, that when I activate the PiP mode I get the input from the composite0 (PVR150) to see in the small window in the lower left corner. This looks to me like the configuration is somehow correct. When I then try to switch to PiP window it does not work. ok, I will try to run 'mythbacken -v all' when I'm at home. thanks, oliver >Around about 08/08/05 21:21, Oliver Martini typed ... >> I just added a "dummy" skychannel.sh script to /usr/loca/bin. when I >> restart the backend it writes a dummy output to a file, but when I try >> to change to a channel with this video source it does not call my >> skychannel.sh script, it also does not change to the video source >> (PVR-150) from the actual cable source (PVR-350). >> When I watch PiP I get the input from the skybox to see in the small >> window, but I'm not able to switch window. > >Not entirely sure I can deduce from that what you're actually doing, but >you may want to try running 'mythbackend -v all' to see what it's getting up to. > >-- >[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]# rm -f .signature >[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]# ls -l .signature >ls: .signature: No such file or directory >[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]# exit ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

I make no pretention that I'm the original author/modifier! The 'digibox.c' [née red_eye.c] and its Makefile I purloined from somewhere and then fine-tuned to speed it up (near-instant channel changes now). The skychannel bash script (which does the deed from Myth & uses digibox) is pretty much my own, but with some file-locking thrown in. I did purloin the file locking originally, but I think I completely re-wrote the mechanism after a while. usage: skychannel [100 <= channum <= 999] Copes with turning on the digibox if its off, and also (as it's once happened to me while I was hammering another remote at the exact same time the script ran) tries turning it on a second time in case the first power-on got missed. Also blats the zap-banner upon channel change (as Myth provides one). [don't forget Sky now has a setup option to timeout the little red dot interactive logo things] Also hangs about for a little over 4 hours and turns the box off (unless called again in the meantime) to 'reduce' power and ensure the box gets resets to cope with S/W updates, etc. It's a timeout as I couldn't easily tell when progs. finished and deserved a power-off. 4 hours seemed enough (if you think you'll record individual progs. longer that that, change the timeout). thanks Neil it's a hell of a lot faster than what I've been using so far - and with it doing things a couple of times it looks like it will be a lot more reliable too :) thanks for this.. will try it out for a couple of days and report nice work :) Cheers Craig ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
