You only need the nuv file to watch it as a video, but to get it to show
up in the recorded shows list, you need to put entries in the database
as well.

Yes, that seemed odd to me too. I thought mythfilldatabase, would do

##
## Attached is a script called myth_make_transcoded_copy.pl. This script

## --recgroup 'Transcoded'(create the new recording in a
## recording group called "Transcoded"
## otherwise leave it in the same group)
## --noautoexpire (turn OFF autoexpire on the new
## copy of the recording since it defaults
## to ON).
## --beforeorig (set starttime of new recording to 1
## minute BEFORE the original, in case
## you have autoexpire turned on on both
## the original and copy, the copy will
## then expire first since will be older)
## --rebuild (build the seektable in the database
## for the new recording. This shouldn't

## they have a seektable in the file)
##

For now, you could rely on the fact thay Myth opens the output file
with the following options: O_WRONLY|O_TRUNC|O_CREAT|O_LARGEFILE.

So, in your user job, you should be able to create a link and trick
mythtranscode to writing to your local disk.

ln -s /mnt/video/chanid_startname.nuv
/var/lib/mythtv/mythtv/chanid_starttime.mpg.tmp

Then when you're done, delete the
/var/lib/mythtv/mythtv/chanid_starttime.mpg.tmp link. I think that will work
without touching /mnt/video/chanid_startname.nuv first, but you might
try that if mythtranscode fails.

I've attached a short script I wrote once as a sort of proof of concept.
The attached script will make a transcoded "copy" of the recording in
the database for you. The new recording will have a starttime of
1 minute after the original and will have "(TRANSCODED)" appended to
the subtitle. You could easily hack this script to do the link for
you as well as set the hostname to the hostname of your slave backend.
You probably would have to do something about the filename also since this
was written before the .mpg extensions were added unless you don't mind
your transcoded .mpg file still having a .mpg extension.

[mythtv-users] tv_grab_au (1.44)

Eyal Lebedinsky wrote:

Here in Canberra I had to change

Yes, I noticed this after that last update; it's very annoying that they
change the column headers...

I've updated the script to version 1.44; this one takes the channel
names in the config file, eg "Prime Southern", and *matches* against the
column header from the web page to determine the appropriate column for
that channel. So, "Prime Southern", being a substring of "PRIME
SOUTHERN, CANBERRA, WOLLONGONG, STH COAST" still matches this column.

Hence, with this new script the above change is unnecessary.

The names are used as regular expressions in the match (case ignored),
so you could easily modify the config file to make it reasonably
resilient to changes in the web page channel names (eg, replace
'southern cross ten capital' with 'ten' or 'capital' etc).

[mythtv-users] Need help with custom mythtranscode User Job

2005-11-14 Thread Joseph A. Caputo
Okay, so I've decided to set up my main PC as a slave backend w/no
tuners. What I want to do is set up a User Job to transcode selected
programs down to 352x240 MPEG-4 and save them on the slave's local disk
so I can watch them over a VPN at a remote location. Here's my setup:

Master BE/FE:
Video storage dir:/var/lib/mythtv/mythtv (local)

Slave BE:
Video storage dir:/mnt/video (local)
Other: /var/lib/mythtv/mythtv (NFS mounted from Master)

What I want to do is use mythtranscode on the Slave to transcode from
/var/lib/mythtv/mythtv and write the output to its local video storage
dir (/mnt/video). The problem is the following:

If I give mythtranscode the input filename, it tries to write the output
to the same director (the NFS mount). This is an 802.11b link and I
want to avoid both reading & writing to the NFS mount. I want the
output to reside locally on the slave.

Next, I tried changing the mount point of the NFS mount, think the file
could then be streamed and transcoded into the local video storage
directory. But here I get the message "Mythtranscode is currently
unable to transcode remote files.".

So, any suggestions on how to proceed? I suppose I could patch
mythtranscode to take an output parameter...

TIA,

On the front-end machine go to "Utilities/Setup", "Setup", "TVSettings", "Recording Priorities", "Set Recording Priorities" and enablethe "Reschedule Higher Priorities" check-box.
If you don't, then high priority means "record this show as soon aspossible no matter what else I miss".  With rescheduling enabled, highpriority will only bump shows if there is no possible way to record
both.--Joke reduction: Three guys walk into a bar. One of them is a wee bitstupid, and the whole scene unfolds with a tedious inevitability.___

I apollogize if this is already implemented in SVN, as I'm running 18.1.

It woud be really nice, to (while watching live tv) change channels in Browse mode or "classic" mode, with seperate key bindings.  I would like to change channels with the Ch+/Ch- keys on my remote, or browse them with the Up/Down keys.

Any plans to make it easy to import a bunch of videos this way? I guess I
am talking about another manual record option that lets you input show
info like title, actors, descriptions, etc. I know you can do this today
with above and then editing mysql, but it would be nice to have a VCR
input you could just start and stop via myth and enter all the show info.

Were there any records in the settings table for the long
hostname? If
not then I'd suspect you have read-only access to the table and are
not
saving the settings after running through the first stage of the
client

configuration.

There were entries there. Mysql permissions appear to be fine.

So now the question is how does the hostname stuff work, the
LocalHostName=backendname hack doesn't feel right.

It's not right. Myth usually uses the machines FQDN as the hostname
value in the settings table. There's a setting in the initial setup
page that allows you to indicate that you want to use a specific
client

name. It's intended as a way of working around dynamic hostnames for
DHCP clients, but can also be used to force a shorter hostname.
Really, all you need is a unique identifier.

When you specified the backend as your hostname, all you really did
was

piggy-back on the existing configuration from the last time the
mythfrontend software was run on the backend. Down that path lies
madness.

Should I delete
all the hostname="my laptop hostname" settings from the database? Is
there a way to reset it, or should I do it manually? (This seems to
suggest that I shouldn't alter the database directly: http://
www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-23.html#ss23.15)

The rule about never touching the database is more concerned with how
the backend tracks the recordings. It shouldn't hurt to clean out the
settings table manually. Just make sure you only delete the frontend
settings (the ones that have a hostname) and leave the backend
settings

(the ones with no hostname) alone.

This was the key. My MasterServerIP was set with a hostname (the
hostname of the backend), once I made the hostname NULL for the
MasterServerIP everything works fine. I deleted all the entries for
my laptop, and the ~/.mythtv folder, and restarted the
MythFrontend.app, this time everything worked as expected; once I
specified the database location and the language I was able to
control Myth fine. Checking the database showed that the entries
under my laptops FQDN were fine.

To re-confirm I changed the hostname for the MasterServerIP back to
quahog and the behaviour returned to the original frustrations. Can
anyone confirm that the MasterServerIP ought to have NULL as
hostname? If that is the case then I'll investigate mythtv-setup on
Knoppmyth R5A22 and see if it is erroneously setting it to the
hostname of the backend.

[mythtv-users] Libmpeg and weird colors

2005-11-14 Thread Robert Lundy
Have been suprised with how well my P4M 1.6ghz laptop has been doing as
a frontend, considering its got ATI graphics, meaning no xvmc.
Compared to my AMD athlon 3200, which plays HD choppily without xvmc,
the results have been awesome.  Why are these intel chips so much
better?

Anyway, to get the smooth(er) playback, I started using libmpeg-but the
colors are almost like a negative-people are green, pizza looked
blue.  Weird.

Is this typical behavior?  I'm thinking its reading something
strange about the colorspace.  Video is the Radeon mobility M300
PCIe in a Dell inspiron 9300, using the newest ATI proprietary driver
(released 11/11/05?).

Re: [mythtv-users] 18.1 frontend on OS X (localhost:6543 regardless of mysql.txt)

Progress made below...

accessible from the network, and the MasterServerIP set correctly).

What exactly are you seeing when you launch the frontend? Does it ask
you for your language and settings, or does it fail immediately?

If I delete the ~/.mythtv/mysql.txt file then it asks for language
and IP and saves the file (with 192.168.10.10 written in there, and
in the database). It then restarts and seeks localhost:6543 which is
where it fails.

Are you updating the correct mysql.txt file? MythTV installs several
copies for use at different times.

On my back-end machine I have:
/etc/mythtv/mysql.txt
/usr/share/mythtv/mysql.txt

On the front-ends I have both of the above PLUS:
/home/live/.mythtv/mysql.txt (on the XBox)
/home/chris/.mythtv/mysql.txt (on the desktop)

[EMAIL PROTECTED] mysql.txt
/Users/james/.mythtv/mysql.txt

So just one.

Different MythTV applications read different mysql.txt files and they
all have to agree.

Other things to consider:

When you updated your mythconverg access permissions to enable remote
frontends did you specify a particular machine? If so, then you'll
have

to massage the permissions every time you add a machine or change the
hostname or IP address (depending on which was specified). You can
check the access rights my connecting to the mysql database (as
opposed

to mythconverg) and running:
select * from db;
select * from host;
select * from tables_priv;
If you are on a trusted network (ie: no foreign machines can see your
MySQL port) then the easiest way to configure remote access is to
specify "%" as the hostname so that any client can get it in as
long as

it has the right password.

I can access (and edit) the mythconverg database from the frontend
computer using the username and password in the mysql.txt file.

I can access the database fine from this machine (although it was
definitely worth checking ;) but the frontend isn't attempting that
yet ...

I ssh'd into my backend box and tailed the /var/log/mysql/mysql.log
and I could see the mythfrontend.app making queries on the database,
so it is definitely talking to the database, it was just getting
wrong information ...

It was asking for config where the
hostname="MinistryOfInformation.local" which is indeed my laptop. As
an experiment I changed the "LocalHostName" in mysql.txt to "quahog"
which is the hostname of my backend. Now the frontend seems to
communicate fine, the right theme comes up. I finally found a binary
that speaks protocol 18:http://willamette.edu/~gkruse/myth/
MythFrontend-SVN-7004-With-Plugins.dmg

So now the question is how does the hostname stuff work, the
LocalHostName=backendname hack doesn't feel right. Should I delete
all the hostname="my laptop hostname" settings from the database? Is
there a way to reset it, or should I do it manually? (This seems to

On the front-end machine go to "Utilities/Setup", "Setup", "TV
Settings", "Recording Priorities", "Set Recording Priorities" and enable
the "Reschedule Higher Priorities" check-box.

If you don't, then high priority means "record this show as soon as
possible no matter what else I miss". With rescheduling enabled, high
priority will only bump shows if there is no possible way to record
both.

Before one of the scheduling gurus gives the proper reasons, I would
infer that as the priority of prog A is higher, this takes precedence
even though it is repeated later and stops the recording of B.

What are the results if you increase the priority of B to be the same
as A? As long as both channels have the same priority, the scheduler
should (I would hope) notice that prog A is repeated and then schedule
the way you were expecting.

*For the archive*

When setting up xine for AC3 pass through on a frontend, I just needed
to specify Pass Through as the speaker setup. The AC3 device default
is iec958, which worked perfectly on my system (my default ALSA setup
uses the mixed-digital device). Any non-AC3 material drops back to
PCM, which the AV receiver plays normally (I guess this is the
equivalent of the hwac3, used for mplayer on the command line)

I still get annoying skips when using MythMusic where tracks randomly
skip forward without any interaction, but I haven't gotten around to
seeing if this is S/PDIF related or MythMusic related.

It's not in 0.18.1-5, but there are other ways to do it. Simply create
additional recording profiles that use the same resolution, etc. as your
normal profiles but have auto-transcode enabled. Then you can assign a
tv series to that profile. When you find one you don't want transcoded,
select it from the "upcoming recordings" list and "add override". You
can then specify an alternate recording profile (without transcoding)
that applies to that episode only.

lots of my TV shows on them.

Definitely possible, I'm doing it now. But, you could just use NFS and
mount the remote filesystems all onto one master backend. It would
probably be a bit easier that way, in terms of administration (just need
NFS on the slaves, as opposed to many MythTV backends) and you only have
to set it up once. Then the master just streams the files out to the
clients. I personally have a master backend, a slave backend, and a
separate NFS server that serves just videos, and any client can watch
the videos.

Tom

I will run front ends on the macs and my xbox.

The thing is I don't have all my recordings on one machine - they are
spread across three machines. And I want to keep diffrent material on
each machine - one for TV series, one for films, and one for err...
stuff that hasn't come out yet! lol

I realize that. What I proposed is to export the filesystems on each of
the 3 machines that have content, and then mount them onto the master
backend. For instance, my master BE has 120GB of local disk that I use
for TV recording, and I have an NFS server with 250GB of RAID5 disk that
stores movies, videos, DVD images, etc. I mount the NFS disk in the
appropriate place, and now I can share that to the front ends. What you
could have is something like the following mountpoints on the master BE:

/myth/video/machine1
/myth/video/machine2
/myth/video/machine3

and configure the master BE to have /myth/video as the Video path in the
MythTV setup. Then it will just recursively find all videos on the three
nfs servers.

Make sense?

[mythtv-users] Watching Recordings on TV instead of PC Monitor

2005-11-14 Thread Curtis White
It appears now I have hit another new problem I can't seem to figure out.

I have the PVR350 card with DirecTV going to the tuner of the card. I
have recorded several shows. When I go to play them back (Media
Library -> Watch Recordings) it plays it back to my PC monitor instead
of the TV. I have the options setup under Utilities/Setup -> Setup ->
TV Settings -> Playback to use the PVR350's TV out / MPEG decoder. The
device is set to /dev/video16 and I have the TV audio through PVR350
only box selected (I can use the TV remote to adjust the volume). I
also have the Enable OpenGL vertical sync for timing box selected. As
I understood it, that is all I needed in order to watch my recordings
on the TV. But for some reason it isn't working. It is playing them on
my PC monitor.

When I go to Watch TV, it plays it on the TV just fine. This only
happens when I want to play back my recorded shows.

At one point this worked because I watched one show when I first got
everything setup. But now for some reason it isn't working. I'm
wondering if something kicked in when I rebooted that made it stop
working. Anyone have any ideas what I can do to get it back playing on
the TV screen?

Well if I understand correctly (and I may well not) socket 939 does

If your DirecTV input is going into the tuner of the card, you should
be able to simply create another video source (using the composite
input and audio inputs on the back of the card) for your VCR as
Mercury has detailed in the thread.

However, if you are using multiple direct inputs (e.g. composite
and/or S-Video) it may be easier and 'cleaner' to get Hauppauge's
additional input connections backplate. This connects to your PVR card
and provides a second set of recordable inputs so you can leave
another device plugged in. You can still only record one source at a
time (the 350 has only one encoder) but you can switch between inputs
easily once they are correctly defined in input connections.

I think you're correct re the tv_grab_dvb output. The XML file doesn't contain
anything relating to the channel frequencies etc.
I can't for the life of me find anything in the setup to allow a channels.conf

I normally have to use "-ao alsa -ac hwac3," for my ac3 tracked recordings to
output in AC3. In fact, since this is the default action for my use of
mplayer for any recordings (the comma after hwac3 allows it to fall back to
pcm for non-AC3 tracks), I placed them in my ~/.mplayer/config as:
ao=alsa
ac=hwac3,

make sure to leave a space after the comma, at first it didn't work for me, on
a whim I put an extra space on the line and it worked.

the only disclaimer is I have yet to try playing a DVD specificly, but I
figure an AC3 5.1 track is an AC3 5.1 track no matter where it comes from

[mythtv-users] Announce: Myth EPG Searching Utility

2005-11-14 Thread Neil
Hi All,

I've just finished coding up a little Java utility that allows you to
create and store a list of words or phrases of things that you would
normally be interested in watching. You can then search the EPG, and any
program that contains any of your phrases in either the title, subtitle
or description will be displayed. It then allows you to add any of these
to the recording schedule.

At the moment its very similar to the TVWish application, but I am
planning on extending it to allow more sophisticated searching, and
ultimately to allow it to recommend programs based on ones you have
previously recorded.

If you'd like to have a look, you can download it from:

http://www.neilchinnery.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/

Please let me have your (constructive ;-) criticisms. Any suggestions or
bug reports appreciated.

Thanks

Neil

Well, I got it working. How? I dunno...
Two things I did,
1) update some DVB stuff from unstable
2) I thought maybe some header files needed by mplayer, etc. are wrong in the
kernel headers. What I did was download the 2.0 drivers from pchdtv.com and
ran make. I got some weird error, but figured, well I know the drivers I have
work, so I ran make install anyway to see if some other changes needed to be
made

One of these things must have done it (since I forgot to do an mplayer compile
after #1).

So, now I'm going to reformat to see which step was required. Hopefully its
just grabbing some of those files from unstable.

I've tried doing some searches through the mailing list and haven'treally come up with a good answer. Maybe I'm just not doing the rightsearches. I don't know. But I would appreciate any help anyone could
give me on this.
I have a PVR350, too.  In mythtv-setup, I found Composite 0 corresponded to the composite inputs on the card.

The following may be incomplete, it's from my notes of October 2004 - thirteen months ago.

In mythtv-setup, I defined a Video Source called VCR, but DID NOT try
to get any lineups for it.  Then, in Input Connections, I assigned
VCR to Composite 0.  I left the Start Channel blank there.

Then, in Channel Editor, I defined a new channel with the Channel Name
of WVCR, assigning the Video Source to VCR.  I gave it a unique
Call Sign..., something like MYVCR - don't remember now.

While watching TV on the PVR350, I just hit the "c" key to change inputs on the card and watch what's playing on the VCR.

To record from the VCR, I use manual scheduling.  It's not too
hard to play a tape on the VCR just before or after the scheduled
recording starts.

Sorry for the incompleteness, but a little experimenting should get you
closer to being able to have the VCR be "just another channel",
so-to-speak.

Good Luck!

it takes about 33%. This is on top of the normal usage by
mythfrontend. Mythfrontend takes about 13% to play back the recording.
Mythbackend takes about 35-30% to record a 480x480 stream. It seems to
me, it should take a lot more power to record something using software
encoding like I am than to actually play it back. I must be missing
hardware acceleration for the video playback, I'm guessing. I'm using a
radeon9600pro with the vga hooked directly up to the vga input of an lcd
TV. So the TV is acting like a monitor. Thing is, I have the
proprietary ATI fglrz drivers installed. But since I'm not really using
any of the functions of this driver, like opengl or TVout, maybe there
is a better driver I could install that could accelerate this 2D
video Anyone know what a normal amount for xorg to be using during
playback is, and if mine is abnormally high what are some methods I can
use to get that back down to a manageable 10-15%?

Raphael,

I use the fglrx drivers on my frontend system (2GHz Celeron, Radeon
9100IGP) and when just testing, got 3-4% X usage and 13% mythfrontend
usage whilst playing back a 720x576 MPEG2 recording.

First thing is to make sure you have xv working (type 'xvinfo' at the
prompt and check the output). The MPEG4 codecs require more CPU power
to decode than MPEG2 which is how they offer better compression
ratios.

Nick
___

Nick, Thanks for your response, so you get 3-4% usage by X playing a
resolution way higher than the ones I'm using (480x480). Ok, something
is definitely wrong on my system. The odd thing is that xvinfo does
give me meaningful output (I can't rerun it to show the output because
I'm at work now). I ran it last night after beginning to suspect that
my adaptor didn't support xv. If I understand it correctly, the output
of xvinfo should show your adaptor name if it is supported, along with a
long list of features and specifications the adaptor can use for xv.
When I ran the xvinfo, I did get the name of graphics card (9600pro)
showing as the first (and only) supported adaptor installed, then there
were many lines about this or that special feature or extension
supported. So, it would seem that I have XV extensions capable of being
run at least, perhaps the video player in myth is somehow not using the
extensions at all and everything is being done by the processor? I'm
not sure how to do it; is there a way to specifically say "output
accelerated video using XV extensions" when viewing the video in
mythfrontend?
In your system, does your fglrx driver have the hardware opengl support
also installed? On mine, fglrx installed and the modules load no
problem , but it will only use Mesa for opengl, it won't use hardware
acceleration. Maybe that's part of the problem and xv only works if you
have opengl acceleration working also. This is all using RTJPEG straight
from the software encoded video; but if I understand correctly X should
use the same amount of processor time for any format on the same
resolution, and mythfrontend will take more or less as it does the
decoding. Thanks for any help/suggestions.

need to firstly run modinfo on the modules relevant to your card
that will tell you what parameters the module takes. In general
it will be

modprobe debug=1

or a higher value that 1.
Load them from the most basic one first up to the highest level

The thing is I don't have all my recordings on one machine - they are
spread across three machines. And I want to keep diffrent material on
each machine - one for TV series, one for films, and one for err...
stuff that hasn't come out yet! lol

When running the uk_rt grabber, I specify full paths to the data and
config files in my script which I call from my crontab so that I can
easily change them if I need to e.g.:

perl /usr/bin/tv_grab_uk_rt --config-file
/home/mythtv/.mythtv/dvb.xmltv --output /home/mythtv/.mythtv/dvb.xml
--quiet
/usr/bin/mythfilldatabase --file 1 -1 /home/mythtv/.mythtv/dvb.xml

want to keep an eye on the thread "no sound new pvr150" in the ivtv-uses

compare output from ivtvctl commands - for some reason it hasn't

I have a leadtek winfast tv2000xp tuner card.  I've been following mythtv howto and the gentoo wiki for setting up mythtv.  I can get video and audio output from xawtv, but there's no video from mythtv.  I can use the up and down arrows to change the channel and I can tell something is working because I can hear the audio switching form channel to channel, but the screen never changes.  It's just a solid green screen.lscpi::00:0f.0 Multimedia video controller: Brooktree Corporation Bt878 Video Capture (rev 11):00:0f.1 Multimedia controller: Brooktree Corporation Bt878 Audio Capture (rev 11)I am loading the bttv module in /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6 with "bttv card=34 radio=1 tuner=2"lsmod:tuner  36776  0bttv  154448  1video_buf  17636  1 bttvfirmware_class  7744  1 bttvi2c_algo_bit    8808  1 bttvv4l2_common 4640  1 bttvbtcx_risc   3912  1 bttvtveeprom   10384  1 bttvi2c_core   17328  4 tuner,bttv,i2c_algo_bit

I seem to recall similar questions about this kind of problem -
checking the archives may be of help:

http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/

Your card seems to be a BT878 card, so the following may help you out:

http://mythtv.info/moin.cgi/BtaudioHowTo

I suppose the big question is whether the external audio out on the TV
card outputs sound from all input sources or just routes non-tuner
input audio back out of the card.

To see what xawtv is doing (when it plays audio properly) fire up
alsamixer beforehand and take note of playback and recording settings.
Then fire up xawtv and see if it changes any of the settings. If you
can mute one of the inputs and xawtv stop making noise, you have
identified the input xawtv is using.

http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/79416

I would also investigate whether the card supports btaudio (see above)
If it does, you should be able to

- disconnect all audio cables
- connect the pay-TV audio into the audio input on the TV card.

As the TV card audio is then taken care of via ALSA, you shouldn't
need extra cables.

You might have copied /usr/share/doc/lirc-0.7.2/remotes/atiusb/lircd.conf.atiusb
over to /etc/lircd.conf (seems unlikely, since you didn't mention it).

That file might work, but it didn't work for me.  So, I used
irrecord to generate a specific /etc/lircd.conf for my MythTV system,
and then the ATI Remote Wonder worked!

Strictly speaking, it isn't necessary to generate a new
/etc/lircd/conf, IF you can find one that matches your remote.  I
preferred generating my own  so that I could get the experience
necessary to support multiple ATI Remote Wonder remotes.  For the
details of configuring, you can search the MythTV archives for
"HOWTO multiple ATI".

Try commenting out each of these individually and in pairs and threes

Thanks, that did it. Edited the modprobe.conf and commented out the

Then the master just streams the files out to the
clients. I personally have a master backend, a slave backend, and a

the videos.

The MPEG4 codecs require more CPU power
to decode than MPEG2 which is how they offer better compression
ratios.

This rig did work before I updated so I think that the hardware is OK. I've
tried using irrecord and this does seem to work after a fashion but I cannot
get all of the buttons to work this way.

Would someone who has this combination working with Myth mind posting their
lircd.conf file?

Quite worrying if this config is not working - are you sure LIRC is
actually working properly and creating the correct /dev devices? If
you are starting LIRC as a service, try

# service lircd status

and see what it reports (I've had instances where LIRC was hanging
(LIRC dead, subsystem locked message). The Hauppauge remotes use the
RC5 control code set, so you should be able to use irrecord specifying
the RC5 config file available from lirc.org.

Finally, what type of receiver are you using (PVR or serial Rx) and
what output does irw give?

I no longer use this remote (but do have the PVR-350), and don't have
the old config to hand, but I remember the lirc.org config was fine
for me (using lirc 0.7.0 a year ago).

also try
mode2 -d /dev/lirc/0
or
mode2 -d /dev/lirc0

(or wherever your char device file is created)

I believe this just dumps whatever raw data flows into that device from
your remote.

Try just having 'xine' as your command and see if it would at least
load. Otherwise, have you tried specifying the full path to xine?

I would run alsamixer whilst you have some audio playing through your
PVR-350 card. The line-in needs to be set to 'capture' with sensible
audio level, and also muted in recording settings (so that you don't
hear two copies of the same audio), whilst playback needs to have PCM
and master output unmuted, again with sensible levels. Play around
with the recording levels until you find one that is satisfactory for
your setup.

[mythtv-users] Cannot Record VCR

2005-11-14 Thread Curtis White
I have my MythTV setup on Fedora 4. I followed the excellent
instructions by Jarod. Everything is working great. I can record and
watch shows from DirecTV without any problem. I am using a PVR350 card
and am using the TV out to my TV. I have DirecTV coming out and going
into the card (using standard cable). Then I ran composite cables from
my VCR to the composite inputs on the card. But I don't know how to
set things up to read that composite input on the card to record the
VCR.

I really don't want to have to run cable out from the VCR and have to
swap the cable in on the card back and forth between the VCR and
DirecTV. I would like to find a way to read the composite inputs on
the card so I can just switch inputs in MythTV and see the VCR. But
nothing I try seems to work. I did try setting up a composite input on
the mythtv-setup but it didn't work. I don't know what device to tell
it to use.

I've tried doing some searches through the mailing list and haven't
really come up with a good answer. Maybe I'm just not doing the right
searches. I don't know. But I would appreciate any help anyone could
give me on this.
