[mythtv-users] Setup locking up when I go into capture cards

2005-05-04 Thread Bill Chmura

Hello,

I am helping a friend get his mythbox working... We've got a PVR-350
(He mentioned it was the second revision) and Mythtv from 0.18 and also
from CVS. In both cases, when we go into setup everything is okay
until we go to the capture cards screen. Then the whole setup just
freezes. Nothing, nada.

I have not found any errors anywhere.

has anyone experienced this?

(Gentoo, 2.6 kernel, ivtv 2.0 drivers)

But I did let it sit... I walked away and came back later kinda sit.

Thanks anyway...

Re: [mythtv-users] Could I have damaged my PVR 150 with the IVTV Drivers?

While I doubt it is what happened to the card, it is entirely possible
to damage some kinds of hardware through software.

But like I said, I doubt that would happen with the ivtv drivers and a
capture card/

[mythtv-users] CVS Build problem - videobuffers.cpp:280: `usleep' undeclared

2005-04-24 Thread Bill Chmura

This is strange... I am building from CVS on two machines (todays code)
and I am getting a problem on one, but not on the other.

I checked the cvs commits and there is a lot of recent activity in this
file. I followed some of the commit recommendations and make distclean
and so forth.

This is on a 2.4 kernel with a hauppage pvr350

Any ideas would be great!

Re: [mythtv-users] Cable Modem == Free Basic Cable.

2005-02-08 Thread Bill Chmura

I dont think this arguement will hold up... if this was the case, cable
descramblers would fine as they are sending the signal into your home. But
they seem to whack you. (and this was way before DMCA and such)

And they're delivering it into his home unasked. If you shove a $20
bill under my door, is it mine? It sure is. Try and get it back. The
burden to prevent the theft of cable is on the cable vendor, not the
person who's got a line connected to the house legally.

Well Theft would be climbing the pole and connecting or disconnecting

Re: [mythtv-users] Boston Strangler quote

2005-01-13 Thread Bill Chmura

Its nothing personal, its advocacy... This quote shares what a nut-case the
motion picture industry looks to for taking away your rights. He's not just
some crank off the street, nor does the mythweb guy have some morbid
fascination for murder.

Have you contacted Jack? If he publically retracts that statement, then I
guess it would have to be removed. This is the same group (I believe - and
I may be wrong) that convinced everyone that your fair use laws (to make a
backup of a dvd) is being preserved since you can point a video camera at the
screen and record it.

Again, I don't think its meant to offend woman, and it is relevant to the
issue (being free to make recordings of programs) at hand.

Have a nice day,

Bill

Re: [mythtv-users] Removing Channels

2004-12-19 Thread Bill Chmura

I am not sure about digital, but I have unchecked all the channels I get up on
the zap2it site in my profile. I had to do nothing on the mythtv end as I
remember.

On Sunday 19 December 2004 10:11 pm, Jeff Simpson wrote:
This may seem like a silly question, but what is the correct way to
remove channels? I went into mythsetup and set a few channels that
don't come in as not-visible. This made them not show up in the
Program Guide for recording, but channel up/down still scroll through
 them.

I have digital cable (comcast) and there are a TON of channels that I
won't get. I'd like to remove all of them so that it doesn't make me
think I can record movies that I can't. Additionally, the way the
channel-change program is designed, changing to some of these channels
will fail, making it try for a few minutes, eventually turning off the
 cablebox, which is rather annoying.

 Thanks for the help!

Re: [mythtv-users] MythTV noob

2004-12-19 Thread Bill Chmura

You just need to get a splitter before the capture cards. You should be able
to get one at any local store.

halfway down this page there are some photos... you've seen them before

http://www.hometech.com/video/splitters.html

350 and a 250 would be cool. I only have a 350 and it works great for
recording and play back. Anything else gets a bit dicey. The 350 is great
if you are going onto a slower machine - it has hardware encoding.

This would cause you to lose the ability to pause live tv and make
switching between tv and myth a more complicated situation than needed.
  (Read, low wife acceptance factor)

I would go with a 250 and 350 as my pair of cap cards if you really want
to use the 350 for output. I think they finally have the 350 out
stabilized to the point that its useful. The 350 is not up to the task of
playing fast games if you have any thoughts of going that route.  If you
are not in a huge hurry you might also want to think about waiting for
the 150 support to stabilize. They are quite a bit cheaper than the
  250's.

OK - I understand now, and can see why people are getting excited about 150
supoprt - it would save money when you need two of them.

But that prompts another question - how I do split the cable coax
connection between two tuner cards - is that another rf splitter, which
is not a term that I understand but my borther will? I feel as though I
have not read about any of these issues on the documentation pages, which
may be my opportunity to contribute in due course
