[mythtv-users] MythMusic skipping

2005-12-21 Thread David Peeters
I've searched several boards and haven't found any usefull information regarding my problem. when playing .mp3s or ogg files in MythMusic, I get annoying skips every so often (usually one or two every 2 to 5 minutes). The skips are barely a half second long and its just like the audio stops playing for a moment.
I'm running KnoppMyth R5A22 and using a Sound Blaster Live! SPDIF output. The soundcard is not used by MythTV playback since I have a tuner card for that. CPU usage does not seem to effect the skipping (It still skips with a 90% idle cpu).

I've tried lower bitrate mp3s, but they have the same problem.
mp3s don't always skip at the same place, so it's definately not a problem with a skip in the physical file.
Does anyone know of a possible reason this could happen? I haven't seen anything strange in the logs, but I'm not experienced with linux so there might be something there and I wouldn't know it.

[mythtv-users] Can anyone recomend a firewire card?

2005-10-21 Thread David Peeters
I just received a DCT 6200 box from my cable company and I would like to use a firewire connection to change the channel (not record from). I've been looking around and the only information I've managed to find on what brand of fire wire card to use was in Jarod's guide.
He said both his Western Digital and Sound blaster Audigy firewire cards worked well. Problem being that I can't find Western Digital's firewire card anywhere, and I don't want to buy an audigy just for the firewire support.
Can anyone give me a specific brand name of a PCI-firewire card that worked for them without much trouble?  (I'm running KnoppMyth if that is any help)

Thanks

If noise is the problem, go to www.silentpcreview.com they have lots of information on quieting a loud case.

hi there alli'm a complete linux newbie and have tried the knopmyth cd yesterday for the first time. I like what it offers but had some problems allready. However before i will start takling the problems i encountered running some of the options i would like to know if there is a way if running the mythtv box (either under this distro or another) so that it boots much quicker. I have tried GeeXBox as well and while it is short on many features compare to mythtv it is booting extremly quickly once installed on the HD (well quick enogh for my wife not to nag me about getting a dvd player instead...)
so please any advice?cheersmichel Others have suggested that you leave your system on all the time, and that's what I did as soon as I got the system up and running in daily recording.
But it didn't take long to find that the noise of the computer bothered me when I read the paper, listened to the radio, and stuff like that.  So, I installed nvram-wakeup.  Once you have your MythTV system running more or less like the VCRs do (come on when it's time to record, record, then shut off), it's quite easy to specify how long in advance you want the machine to power on.
I have mine set to three (3) minutes, but it could be set to anything (I think). So, if you know that you want to use your MythTV system around say, 5pm,you could set the various parameters and have the system power/boot up well in advance.  When you sat down at 5pm, the machine would be up and running, waiting for whatever pleasure you have in mind.

Re: [mythtv-users] Channel Hopping

2005-10-04 Thread David Peeters

Whatwould be nice in the guide mode is if you couldenter the channel number in and jump right to
that point in the guide.

I'm pretty sure that you can do that if you set the right option...

Re: [mythtv-users] How do I get decent quality SVideo output? (Using PVR-150 and Geforce4 MX)

2005-08-22 Thread David Peeters
It's a 1Ghz P3.

I really have no other way to play back the file unfortunately as I
only have the single TV and the playback on a non-interlaced monitor
would look different anyways.

When I use XvMC, the OSD goes black and white and flickers badly.
Using XV picture controls only changes the contrast/hue... don't they?
I'm not sure what you mean by overlay.

[mythtv-users] How do I get decent quality SVideo output? (Using PVR-150 and Geforce4 MX)

2005-08-21 Thread David Peeters
I've been having alot of trouble getting decent picture quality output
from my mythtv box to my TV.

I'm using KnoppMyth.

I have a PVR-150 non-mce, and Geforce 4MX 420

I have the S-Video out of my Dish Network box connected to the S-Video
in on my PVR-150. Then an S-Video out from the Geforce goes to the
TV. (the picture looks fine with going straight from the Dish Network
box to the TV. The picture looks fantastic when I play a DVD in my
Mythtv box).

I'm using IVTV version 0.3.7h, and NVidia driver version 7174.

I'm using the XF86Config-4.nvidia-tvout.sample.

I have all my capture and transcoding resolutions set to 720x480.

Recording bitrate is set at 6600 with 8800 max

I have the Bob de-interlacing set.

The picture on the TV looks like i'm watching a overly compressed
video on my computer. there is blockiness and streaking.

I've tried the denoise3d filter and the result was no better.

are there settings that I should be using or different drivers that
will improve my quality?

I'll gladly provide any other required information.

Thanks for any help!
