[mythtv-users] Manual Recording
Hi folks, I have an issue manually recording, by pressing the r button. I searched the list and found exactly the same question dated June 2003. And exactly the same problem. I use S-Video input on Hauppaugh 150 on PAL system. I used wilsonet.com/mythtv as reference and created the mysql db exactly as described. MyMythTV 0.18 (installed from rpms, running on Via SP13000, on Fedora Core 4) responds to the r button but when pressing the s button, in the console, I see first of all QMYSQL3: Unable to execute query message and then Segmentation Fault. Is manual recording supported at all? What is wrong with pressing the s button? And why, segmentaion fault, which is a very critical error, occurs? [mythtv-users] NuppelVideo container format
Hi folks,I have a theoretical question about the NuppelVideo container formatused by MythTV.Why does it save video in this format and not in MPEG-2 video stream? As I understand saving MPEG-2 video stream in NuppelVideo format is very much space-consuming.Thus for instance 1,756MB Myth native format can be saved in DVDquality but as much as 899MB only!!! It's twice bigger than the DVDquality. Why Myth format is so large and why can't it be saved in raw MPEG-2 video stream for later playback? Thanks in advance. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

Re: [mythtv-users] NuppelVideo container format
Guys, thanks for such a prompt reply! But I think you miss the point. Those of you who read the last issue of Linux journal, the Advanced MythTV Video Processingarticle must note, I citate: Although digital TV recordings are an MPEG-2 video stream, the NuppelVideo container format used by MythTV is specific to MythTV and is not supported by most video player software. To watch the videos with anything other than a MythTV front end, you must convert them to a format with a wider selection of players. I need to use mythtranscode tool to convert the MythTV recordings into more widely supported formats, means it's not MPEG-2 format. Additionally, as I understood, if you take a file in Myth native format with resolution 704x480 which size is 1,756MB after decoding it to DVD (i.e. MPEG-2) format, the file will shrink to 899MB. Now is the one million dollar question, why the native file (original) is so large? Another example, what if I have PVR which has DivX encoding capabilities, whould MythTV save it in DivX (as I expect it to be), or in its native format? Thank you. On 11/27/05, Michael T. After that, I think it's option 4, Input Connections. In that screen you assign a Video Source (which you assumably setup) to an input on your tuner. So, you would assign, say your OTA channels to your Television option in Input Connections. The OTA channels are setup in the Video Source screen. Hopefully that all makes sense and points you in the right direction. Good Luck. Chad, I *did* set up Capture card with input from Tuner0. And I *did* set up Video sources to my cable company. If anybody can elaborate, I would greatly appreciate! That said, I noticed something that may be relevant to this problem. When I set up Input connection for my combination (Tuner 0 - CableCompany) I set up the starting channel. As long as I don't start front end (that is, exit and start mythtvsetup) - the value stays. But as soon as I start (and then exit) frontend and then start setup - the value in the Starting channel field is gone. Maybe it's related - maybe it's not. But either way I am very confused by references to channel numbers. I did install MythTV several times on different computers (FC3 and FC4). But either way I am very confused by references to channel numbers. Sorry to confuse you earlier. When using a conventional tuner, MythTV needs to know 4 (minimum) defined numbers to work correctly when tuning to a channel: chanid - a unique number given to any particular channel; channum - a number you use to label the channel (typically cable/tuner channel number); freqid - the channel that the tuner actually tunes to; and sourceid - a unique number for the recording source the channel is on You need to make sure that for your tuner input, you have channels correctly defined in your database (you can check this in mythtvsetup in channels settings, or in the actual database). If you're happy looking further at the database, I recommend using phpMyAdmin to check the mythconverg database for obvious issues (check the capturecard, cardinput and channel tables). If you do find any and make changes, remember the backend must be restarted. Channel numbers therefore, can be defined by you when setting up the system, to a recognisable number. Channel frequencies however need to match the station to actually tune in on, and therefore needs to be correctly input. I hope this helps to clear up your confusion, Nick oookey; confusion is (almost) gone - thanks! after I ran filldatabase, the channels got populated. The numbers on the screen match the values in channel table (yes, I am quite familiar with phpMyAdmin). The channum and freqid fields are the same; but that is expected. Other tables (capturecard, cardinput, videosource) look reasonable as well. now, I hate to repeat myself, but I don't understand how that relates to the problem that I am experiencing! frontend doesn't list Tuner0 as one of the inputs; I don't get so far to be able to switch channels! I realize that you guys are trying to help solve *my* problem, and I appreciate it; and I feel that you know the answer - if only I could explain the problem properly and we could address the issue at hand. Re: [mythtv-users] Archiving Shows to DVD
Paul, I did indeed had the output set to AVI. However, changing to MPEG Video didn't make any difference. Should I use any particular options on Video or Audio groups? Thx Felix Paul Bouchier-Hayes wrote: Felix, When using avidemux2 make sure you change the output option to MPEG, it looks like you have it set to AVI. Felix Felix, I haven't tried mythburn, I have tried the other two and have found option 4 (ProjectX/dvdauthor) better :-) Not perfect, but better. ProjectX allows you to cut out unwanted segments without stuffing the audio/video sync, the other two caused me problems in that area. The only problem I've had with ProjectX/dvdauthor is that the burnt discs won't play perfectly in some DVD players. Seems to be something causing jumping/looping problems. But hey, they work fine in mine (Pioneer). cheers Carl. Carl, ProjectX seemed too daunting... too many packages to choose from, and completely not clear what's needed for what! Maybe after 3 failures I wasn't adventures to try yet another option :-\ Anyway, I made some more progress with mythburn. First, I figured that there are *two* mythwebs. One is an option in mythfrontend (Information Center - Web) that is empty for me; and another is php site http://localhost/mythweb (which I completely forgot about). It seems that install script puts itself as an option into that php site, but fails. Even so, I can start it directly http://localhost/mythweb/mythtvburndvd/ Generally, it has a lot of hard-coded stuff. But I am OK playing around with PHP, so I think I am getting somewhere here. If (once ;-) ) I get stuck - I'll try ProjectX. Any quick start documentation for that? Re: [mythtv-users] Re: changechannel support for DirecTV tuner
I didn't think that I can grant permissions to the port ;-/ I know now, but it didn't help. Well, it helped in the sense that now my regular uid can run directv from command line successfully. But changing channel from inside mythfrontend doesn't work... I even started mythfrontend as root, so it is obviously not permissions problem. Any troubleshooting I can do to see if the external command is indeed sent to the box? Feels like I am s close! Thanks Felix David Morris wrote: Why not avoid sudo altogether and just grant world read/write permissions to the port? It would simplify things, and shouldn't really be a security concern on a home Linux box, especially a dedicated Myth box that only has a DirecTV receiver attached. So just chmod a+rw /dev/ttyS0 drop the sudo and see if it works then. If you're really paranoid about security you could set the group on /dev/ttyS0 to mythtv or whatever your myth login group is and likewise set the same group on the directv.pl script. Then you can just allow group read/write on the device. David Felix wrote: I got the serial cable, got the script, got some additional perl library (Time::HiRes) and everything is working fine... almost ;-/ the script directv.pl works great when I run it as root; however, as regular user, I was getting Could not open /dev/ttyS0: Permission denied. So, I set up sudo for directv.pl; and now it works from command line. However, in MythTV it still doesn't change channels... I tried the following line in mythtvsetup (Input connections - External channel change command): sudo directv.pl box_type D10-100 setup_channel (with and without sudo) but the channels don't change... [mythtv-users] changechannel support for DirecTV tuner
Hi, I am trying to conrol DirecTV tuner from MythTV (DirecTV Receiver D10). I read: If you have an external tuner, such as a DirecTV or digital cable set top box, you should add |/usr/local/bin/changechannel| to your Input Connections in the mythbackend configuration GUI. The *changechannel* program is not supplied with MythTV, so this is going to be dependent on what sort of external tuner you have. Is there a changechannel for DirecTV tuner anywhere? [mythtv-users] audio pitch to weirdness on channel change
hi I have yet another problem. sometimes, when I change the channel in livetv, audio becomes very high pitch (minnie mouse voices) or very low pitch (monster-like) or sometimes stays / becomes normal again. I have not yet noticed this in recordings. I then have to exit live tv and enter again and everything is normal again. when I adjust playback speed with 'a' the audio still sounds the same. A/V stay in sync all the time. my setup: - fedora core 3 with atrpms's mythtv-suite but I have noticed this with debian/packages, too, both on the same system - my soundcard is snd-cmipci (cmi83??) but it's the same with snd-es1938 (ess solo-1) - k7 1700+ , 768 mb ram, nforce2 ( but the onboard sound is disabled ) - DVB with skystar2 2.6c - the problem occurs on all channels. I hope I could descibe the problem properly. thanks for answers. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
[mythtv-users] dvb: weird sound problems
hi, I have yet another problem, I hope I can decribe it properly... In live-tv, when I change to another channel, the sound becomes - sometimes higher then normal ( all people sound like mice or aliens) - sometimes deeper then normal ( all people sound like monsters ) - sometimes normal again - sometimes it stays as before (higher, deeper, normal) Sometimes means its 100% random. The problem doesn't occure in recordings ( at least I haven't noticed yet, and I tried ~10 times). I don't know by what factor the sound becomes deeper or higher, but its constant. It's very difficult to understand what people say. Audio stays in sync with video, though. It's not a soundcard / driver problem, I tried with two different cards: 1) snd_cmipci 2) snd_es1938 Only mythtv has these problems, xine mplayer work fine. my system: debian unstable, using official mythtv deb packages, skystar2 (2.6c) for dvb-s, 1,5ghz athlon, 512mb ram, nforce2 (not using onboard sound) I'm hopeful you can help me, mayby I will then (finally) have a working mythtv system Thanks in advance for your help. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

[mythtv-users] RE: black screen on watching TV if channel fucked up - how can I switch the channel?
Hi, I have another problem. Have selected a channel were I get no signal. Can anybody say me how I can switch the channel back to a working one, so that I can watch TV as before :-/? Selecting watch TV doesn't let me switch the channel anymore in this situation :-(. I have the same problem, too. This is very annoying, for every broken channel I have to do the same stupid procedure: - kill mythbackend and mythfrontend - enter mythtv-setup - change the default channel to 1 ( Why does it change the default channel, anyway ? Is it because then it starts up with the same channel watched when it was shut down ? Can I turn that off somewhere ? ) - remove the broken channel from the list. ( I don't know how to remove channels in the channel editor, so I edit its number to something 1000 ) - exit mythtv-setup - start mythbackend and mythfrontend Why does mythfrontend crash when the channel is broken ? Is there no solution to this problem ? Thank you ! ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
