Re: [mythtv-users] Hauppaugge PVR250 recognized as PVR150
Todd Bailey wrote: Has anyone ever come up with a fix for this problem? I am running a new install, this time FC4 and myth worked the first time. Unfortunantly, I had to reboot and now myth doesn't function. dmsg reports the card as a 150 not a 250. Having replaced one of my 250 for a 150 I had this problem after reboot also. But.. After a power cycle (shutdown -h, turn computer off then back on again) it is recognized as a 250 again.. Maybe it is firmware related, I also had to upgrade ivtv to make the 150 work at all.. Re: [mythtv-users] Way OT but...
Nick Rout wrote: OK so there are threads on here about the video ipod so I thought this one is ok too. My son was recently given a little mp3 player sourced in Hong Kong. It has a little screen and can play videos as well as music. There is a sample video on the machine when you buy it, and it plays tolerably well. Trouble is i cannot figure out the file format or codecs used so that i can encode video for it. There are some programs on the accompanying CD, but they are all chinese language and for windows. The file has the suffix .mtv and running file on it simply gives the result "data". mplayer, xine, ffmpeg, tcprobe all fail to recognise it. The device is branged "mp4" and was made somewhere in asia. Any ideas on how to figure out how this stuff is encoded and packaged? Quote of some stuff I found with Google: The most so called china mp4 devices I'm aware of, support only variations of mtv like dmv or mpx. There is no chance at all to play native wmv or mpg without prior conversion because those devices have neither hardware nor software decoding support. The concept of the mtv format (and all derivates) is, to have an mp3 stream that carries image information that is allready in the format of the display hardware (uncompressed). A hardware mp3 decoder is already in place, the display hardware only need to point to the memory adress of the next image (simple implementation in soft- and hardware). Hope this will help... Re: [mythtv-users] PVR350 Remote Oddness
Illtud Daniel wrote: Hi, I've got a MythTV setup with a PVR350 & the grey remote. The remote function works fine, but with every button press, the screen goes black before returning after half a second or so. This happens on the menus & the watch TV. I've googled, but can't seem to find anything about this. Details: MythTV-0.18.10-113 from at on FC4 & lirc-0.7.2-18. Hauppauge PVR350 with the hauppaugegrey remote. SiS 65x/M650/740 Graphics. I am experiencing the same very annoying problem (this is on an Asus Pundit using both SVHS and VGA outputs) the SVHS/TVout is rock solid but the VGA output loses sync on every buttonpress. It has something to do with the screensaver being deactivated every time you press a button (what screensaver??) if you dig deep enough into the forum archives you will find a mentioning of the problem. I already tried recompiling MythTV frontend without the offending line but ended up with a binary which didn't want to run with my current setup. I'm using the latest KnoppMyth and it still has got this bug which apparently only shows up with the Sis chipset and on the VGA output. Maybe it is in the Winischofer X drivers. On my old CRT monitor the screen just 'wiggled' a little but the LCD thinks it is being put to sleep and switches off momentarily, hence the black screen. Help! Indeed... For viewing it is not a problem but skipping through the EPG for example is simpy unbearable... Re: [mythtv-users] VERY slow channel changes? 7-8sec
Michael Jones wrote: No cable box or anything else weird.. Just regular connection to the cable feed. Hmm, I have two 250's and a DVB-S tuner in my backend box and both frontends change channels in about 2 seconds. What file system do you use for the ringbuffer ? (/cache that is) Every time you change channels the ringbuffer is deleted and set up again for the next channel. On some filesystems/harddisks this can be slow if the buffer is quite large. Also check if your drive is using DMA and not PIO (dmesg or hdparm can tell you that) Here is mine: /dev/hda3 on /cache type xfs (rw) It is about 3 Gb in size and is on the boot/system drive (hda) which is a small (but 7200 rpm) 20 Gb drive, I use a separate 200 Gb drive (hdc) for recording. belcampo wrote: Hi all, I've managed to get analog and satelite to work, but DVB-C not. The problem in the Netherlands is, I think, that when I wan't to do a channel search I would have to provide a network-number, which in my case, Casema, is . When I do a search I see that Casema is found but it searches network 0500 and soon after that it hangs. Henk Schoneveld What kind of DVB-C hardware do you use ? I am trying to get TV-Home into my mythbox but can not find out what hardware is suitable. The old Siemens card I have lying around should be able but I could not get it to work. Having asked Essent how to get digital access to their DVB-C network resulted in: we don't know you have to contact a dealer... I'm running an Intel Dot.station as frontend in my bedroom, alas it has no LCD but a nice 15 inch CRT and after changing the original Celeron 400 to a 667 Celeron (it would not recognize this Celeron as 1000 MHz, probably a busfreq/multiplier problem) it does MPEG2/AVI/MP3/OGG and all very well, runs nice and cool :-) Also added an IR receiver. Re: [mythtv-users] Capture card luminance bandwidth (BT8xx and PVR-250)
Cory Papenfuss wrote: I had heard that the TV cards need a pretty strong signal. I'd believe it given the RF-toxic environment inside a PC's case. Good to know. Since the tuner modules used on the capture cards are the same as used in any TV or VCR it should not behave different. However you mentioned RF-toxic environment *inside* the PC-case, it is even worse: A PC is never shielded 100% (holes everywhere) so even outside the case there are RF signals which can interfere with your cable or antenna signal. Most of these problems are due to the very poor quality coax which is out on the market (esp. in ready made cables). By using double shielded coax (e.g. Hirschmann KOKA) and full-metal connectors you will find that the picture captured by your card is much better. Also make sure that your PC is properly grounded. On the topic of the number of lines captured: I can't imagine how a capture card can capture fewer lines than there are transmitted. What does it do ? Repeat the prevous line ? Is the card capturing a complete frame (which seems logical for the MPEG2 encoder to process) or just one line at the time ? If it is capturing a completer frame all lines should be present, nicely 'clocked' in by the Horizontal Sync pulse.
