I've been using the nfs mount method for about 8 months now and the only time
I get a/v sync issues is if I exit out of one show and then immediatley go
into another show, about 30% of the time this will result in the voices being
ahead of the onscreen action. Exiting the show, going to the main menu and
restarting the show always fixes the problem/

[mythtv-users] why the avermedia m179 has such crappy reception with mythtv

2005-04-26 Thread Harondel J. Sibble
Yesterday when moving my mythtv computer from the living room, I noticed
something odd, the coax screw on connectors for the tuner are actually not
phyically mated to the tuner module. They pull right off to reveal an RCA
type plug in the other side. Jiggling with the connector can make a big
difference in terms of the picture quality and whether you get a picture at
all.

Seems a bit of a strange design as every other tuner card I've seen (in the
past 10 years, I've probably owned easily 2-3 dozen such cards) has the coax
connector firmly mated to the tuner module itself.

[mythtv-users] mythtv and ac3, multichannel audio amp, use with cheap 5/6 channel speakers

2005-04-21 Thread Harondel J. Sibble
Just curious, has anyone seen any cheap, small amps that take a coax signal
in (or standard mini jacks) and will decode ac3/thx in addition to just doing
regular 2 or 4 channel audio.

Why? Well you can get cheap 5.1/6 channel speakers sytems for about $50-$100

eg

http://snipurl.com/e61c

which makes it worthwhile to use with an extra frontend (and crt tv) you may
have around the house. Most folks I know may have a nice home theatre setup
in one room, but won't say replicate this in the bedroom or the den or what-
have-you as it's not cost, or space effective to have 42 plasma screens and
a super super surround sound system in each room..

So the point would be to have an amp that can use the coax connector from the
frontend's motherboard (or addin soundcard) to decode ac3 when watching dvd's
and allow 2 or 4 channel stereo when listening to music. I know a lot of
soundcards offer this, however sometimes the output is so low, you need a
preamp anyways

Most of the cheap speaker systems only have stereo mini plugs and don't take
coax directly.

[mythtv-users] recommendations to solve a frontend problem

2005-03-05 Thread Harondel J. Sibble
Currently I have a combined front/backend computer in the living room running
Knoppmyth. I am using an SBlive with all audio output through the spdif
connection to spdif connection on the Creative Labs Desktop Theatre 5.1 (DTT)
sound system. The computer is hooked up to our tv via svideo.

I recently purchased a Hauppauge MediaMVP that I'd like to put in the living
room in place of the computer. However I have one problem I don't know how
to solve, basically how to deal with audio. The MediaMVP only has stero
outputs, I know I could just run the stereo outputs into a single analog
input on the DTT system and use the button that takes stereo and converts it
to four channel sound and use the spdif input for plugging in my settop dvd
player. However I am hoping there is another/better way... suggestions?

Okay, went ahead with the lastest binary release.

The mvpmc software can also use the Myth protocol for recording
playback rather than using NFS. If you would like to use the Myth
protocol, the last line in dongle.bin.mvpmc.config would look like
 this.

Okay. I am using the mythtv protocol to playback. The mediamvp loads the new
software and connects to my mythbox, I go to recorded shows and select an
episode and click play, and all I get is a black screen, If I hit back/exit,
I get back to the menu. Shortly thereafter the mvpmc screen saver kicks in.

 /bin/mvpmc -f /etc/helvR10.fnt -s 192.168.0.2 -o svideo -a 4:3 -m ntsc –r

This is my config file

mkdir /myth
mkdir /myth/tv
mkdir /myth/music
/bin/mvpmc -f /etc/helvR10.fnt -s 192.168.73.14 -o svideo -a 4:3 -m ntsc -r
myth/

Another unrelated problem, the supplied remote control doesn't work. The
mediampv flashes as if receiving ir traffic, but doesn't actually do
anything. Using my Hauuppauge grey remote (the smaller older style) that came
with my PVR-250, it works fine.

Any ideas.
