Re: [mythtv-users] OS X Darwin Port
Sorry for the delay in reply. Apparently I was having some issues with Alsa, which I think I've got straightened out. However, I still don't have sound in the DarwinPorts frontend. FWIW, there is nothing I can select in "Audio Output Device" under setup, and also no Mixer Device I can select under volume controls. I've tried with and without using internal volume controls. Any suggestions? On Jan 20, 2005, at 9:40 AM, Justin Kim wrote: There's a preference for using/not using native sound. Try twiddling that. Also, the Darwinports Myth FE writes errors to the console log. You might want to try checking there. Re: [mythtv-users] Re: New Mac Mini
Don't forget, though, that with the Mac you also get iPhoto, iTunes, iMovie, etc. :-) On Jan 21, 2005, at 3:06 PM, John Thomas wrote: No, you are correct. The Shuttle system is barebone. But the CPU, 40 GB drive and memory would be pretty comparable to the Mac Mini in price. Plus you would also have to add a DVI compatible video card in the one PCI slot available. So maybe the two systems are more comparable in price. ___ ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
[mythtv-users] Sound Card Type?
I have an IBM ThinkCentre that I inherited. Seems to be working ok with myth, except for sound. I'm following the Wilsonet Fedora guide to get started. However, this being an inherited box, I don't have any of the documentation on the system. How do I find what sound card it is? It's an IBM ThinkCentre 8198-66u. I'm not looking for spectacular sound out of an integrated sound card, but it'd be nice to at least hear what's going on! :-) ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

Has anyone tested how many front ends a very good backend could support? Let's say a high end PIV with 2gb RAM? Multi-Processing machine? Would it be possible to cluster some backends?___ mythtv-users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
Re: [mythtv-users] Dell OptiPlex for Myth front-end
Rumor has it that the XBox is going to drop to $100. Wouldn't that be the best bang for the buck, even if you don't use it for a game system? And, there's something to be said for hardware consistency. How do you like using an xbox as a front end? I'm considering turning mine into one. On Dec 7, 2004, at 3:43 PM, David Levine wrote: Hi, all. I currently have an "under the stairs" MythTV backend (dual PVR250 tuners), and a single XBox front-end in the living room. I'm thinking about a second front-end in the bedroom, however I was thinking about a small form factor PC instead of another XBox. At work, I have a (small form factor) Dell OptiPlex GX260 on my desk, and it is VERY quiet (at least as heard in my office, to my ears). So of course, it seems like it would make a good front-end. It's way overpowered for a Myth front-end, of course, and it's a bit more than I'm looking to spend. However, I see quite a few older small form factor OptiPlex GX models available cheaply, used, online. Does anyone know if the older models were just as quiet? I read online that the GX50 line didn't have an AGP slot (so if you wanted to add an after-market video card instead of the onboard video, you were stuck with PCI). But I'm not sure about other GX models. I don't do HDTV, just SDTV, so I can go for a fairly old machine, I think, without worrying about being underpowered. Cheap and quiet are my watchwords! And, of course, if anyone is actually using a GX, I'd love to hear about it.
