end up with everyone switching to this time and their servers will be

everyone to do that?On 11/14/05, Jack Lowry <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

I got my pvr-150 shipped for $75. Normally $85 at buy.com but they had
a special going for $10 off on anything over $75. Had to settle for
7-10 day shipping to get the free shipping. Luckily it shipped from

I would recommend using a Hauppauge (even if you can get a Yuan or
something else cheaper). Currently the cheapest of the Hauppauge line
is the PVR-150 (it's also the best--the PVR-500 is basically just two
PVR-150's, so it's not really "better," just two of the best).

You can find the PVR-150 for about $70 after rebates at local retailers
(CompUSA, Circuit City, Best Buy, etc.). If you don't want to wait for
a special, it will cost about $90.

I can't say for sure if you'd have any problems. I would think you would

What about the Pundit-AE3 or the Pundit PE-3:
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductList.jsp?ThirdCategoryCode=031611

I think these systems are a little bigger than the -R but you get 3
slots (2 pci and 1 agp on the -AE3) and two hard drive bays. There's
no on board tv-out but with the agp slot you can put a Geforce 4 or
other video card that has better tv-out.

I haven't seen anything on these lists about these systems (haven't
really looked though) but they look like a better choice than the -R.

Chris Martin wrote:

I don't know if you are planning to use the Tv out on the Pundit-R,

output from my PVR 350 which works far better).

The main problem is that all motion looks blurred, unless bob
deinterlacing is turned on. Unfortunatley bob deinterlacing requires
Open GL VSync, unless you are happy with the picture degrading after a
few minutes of watching. As far as I'm aware the linux drivers
provided by ATi for the Pundit-R do not support Open GL as of yet.

The other problem is that I can't get the image produced by the
Pundit-R to fill my 4:3 Tv in the vertical direction. This means that
when I'm watching a widescreen
source I have two sets of black bars, one from the graphics card and
another from the source. The result is I only around 60% of the
screen contains a picture.

It is possible that I've got this wrong and there's something else
that I need to look into, but I've been playing around since January
and haven't found a solution yet. Apart from that I think the
Pundit-R is a great machine for the price, it's quiet (although by no
means silent), looks good and has a good range of outputs. As others
have said, putting a cpture card in there is a tight fit, but I've
managed to get two in mine albeit with a moderate amount of case
bending.

I was having the same problem with my pvr-150 and an old GeForce 2. I
think my problem was casued by the ivtv drivers though as I don't have
that problem now with newer drivers. You may want to try updating your
drivers or you could cat /dev/video0 > /tmp/test.mpg and then see if
that test capture has the blue line. If it does, its the ivtv drivers,
otherwise it could be something with the xv colorkey.

Re: [mythtv-users] Big fat blue bar with Internal player

2005-06-22 Thread Marshall Crocker
I think this is a problem with the nvidia driver. The default color for
the video overlay is blue so it outputs blue for resolutions that do not
take up the whole screen. You have to use the xvattr command to set the
overlay color to black:

xvattr -a XV_COLORKEY -v 0

You may have to install xvattr.

After some tweaking I got MythTv to work with the 0.3.3k ivtv drivers on
Gentoo linux. I can watch TV and record but I do see occasional MPEG
errors in the image and dmesg shows a steady stream of ivtv errors like:

ivtv: ENC IRQ OVERFLOW: #36842 Stealing a Buffer, 2 currently allocated

Mythfrontend gives errors like:

What is the cause of this error? When I use mplayer with ptune-ui I can
watch TV without any problem and I don't see the ivtv errors.

Should I tweak the livetv and recording profiles to increase or decrease
the data rate? I already changed the resolution of all profiles to PAL
(720x576).

The stream type for all profilss is MPEG2 PS. Does it make sense to
change this?

Any pointers would be very welcome. I have looked through all the info I
could find but nobody addressed this issue.

My suggestion would be to update ivtv. It wasn't until version 0.3.6g
that I got a useable system with my pvr 150. You may be able to tweak
the recording profiles to get your current version working but it would
be best to try the latest release. If you're still having problems with
the latest release, then it would be best to send an email to the
ivtv-devel list. It's a very good chance that the latest ivtv drivers
won't have that problem, especially since a lot of changes have been
made regarding buffers.

Whenever I tried a channel with less than three digits I could see a 0
come up on the screen but then it quickly disappeared. The other
channels did nothing other than return the error. The directv.pl script
was working for me by putting a 0 before the channel number but now it
doesn't work. The only way I change the channel is to use the command
type for the channel change command:

directv.pl box_type D10-200 channel_change_type command setup_channel
last_param key select 247

I'm using a D10-100 so that may have something to do with it but I don't
know. I'm gonna keep playing with the directv script since its easier
to try different combinations of commands. I'll use whatever works so
keep trying and let me know if I can help.

2005-06-07 Thread Marshall Crocker
I just finished making my own directv serial cable (did it for about $7
with parts from the shack) and saw this thread. I'm using the
directv.pl script and it works fine for me. To make it change to
channels below 100 I have to prefix the channel number with a 0 (i.e.
directv.pl box_type D10-200 on last_param delay .2 key exit 014). This
works fine from the command line but mythtv doesn't add the 0 even if
you manually enter 014. Shouldn't be too hard to change the script to
insert a zero if the channel number is less than 3 digits.

Just thought I would point that out since there haven't been any more
replies. This email won't appear as part of the original thread since I
didn't subscribe to the mailing list until after the last email.

Interesting enough this script works but the satcontrol-0.02 only works
for channels greater than 102 (I contacted the author).

Works fine
./directv.pl box_type D10-200 port /dev/ttyS0 6

Changes the channel to 6 on the guide but then kills the process leaving you
on the same channel
./directv.pl channel_change_type key box_type D10-200 port /dev/ttyS0
setup_channel 6

Produces an error for channels < 102
./directv.pl port /dev/ttyS0 6
Error excessive retries
./directv.pl port /dev/ttyS0 102
