[mythtv-users] Users & Developers mailing lists

2005-03-21 Thread Nav Jagpal
Hi,

Quick question.. Is there a way to find out how many people are
subscribed to the users mailing list? Also, the developers mailing
list?

I'm writing a paper for an OSS class, and I would like to get this
information if possible. I read the commands available from the
listserv, but no luck.

I have not been able to find a copy of 1.0.3 - where did you obtain yours?

My experience with VNC on Debian is that you cannot control the

2005-03-04 Thread Nav Jagpal
I'm told the installer to use the local hard disk for storage, and it
seems to be going through the motions now.

I'm not really sure why the Mythtv needs local storage anyways I
guess for the picture viewer stuff.

So I see that the DVD remote is required for MythTV on XBOX.. I don't
have one yet, and am wondering if it's really worth it.

I have been using the mythtv addon for XBMC for awhile, and it seems
pretty good.. Only thing that's really missing is watching/pausing
live TV...

What is everyone's experience with MythTV on XBox? Is watching live TV
doable? Can the XBOX keep up?

Problem is my apps are on F and savegames are on E.

So when I tried to install Xebian, it installed to E:\debian.. and Now
i can't launch it from EvoX

Maybe there is something in the EvoX config fiel that will allow me to

So after a dozen restart attempts, Xebian finally booted from the CD
again; perhaps its the media?

Anyways, now onto the install. There are a few options as to which
partition I want to install Xebian.

I previously upgraded my HD to an 80GB drive. Which partition should I
install to? I believe F: is used for my applications like EvoX, XBMC
etc.

Do any of you have a non-retail HD installed with different partition
setups than original? Which option did you select?

Thanks

First thing: The docs say that v1.0.3 is required but I have v1.1.0 -
didn't think that would make a difference, since I cant find v1.0.3!

Which version did you use? The problem is, when I get to the

Maybe my reply was confusing.

Let me try again:

The hardware requirements I listed were arbitrary - I just wrote
something down with the intent of going back to fix them. I hope I
didn't give the impression "Hey, I'm done with this doc.. Please check
it out".. Instead, I was looking for people to help fix it - and thank

I really like the idea of multiple categories... The scan-converter
would go under the 'n00b'-style category..

Thanks for the suggestion.

Very good suggestion! I'll take a look into this idea tomorrow; Thanks.

You are very right; the documentation does not make this clear. All I
have done so far is write down the steps required to complete the
basic MythTV install. I didn't mean for anyone to take this
documentation to be nearly complete; I just wanted to get some
feedback before I went too much further. It sounds like you are my
target audience!

What do you think about video-out cards versus the PC->TV box?

Sorry, I just arbitrarily picked the hardware requirements.. I needed
to put something there; I really should have put a "** FIX ME" beside
that section. I'm running a way less powerful machine than the one I
described!

>Buying a pc to tv converter is also odd advice, since video cards
with tv-out are cheap and plentiful.

I guess I didn't describe my goal properly. I wanted non-linux people
to be able to get MythTV up and going.

When I first thought about getting a mythtv box, I just wanted to find
a place that said "hey, get this stuff, and it will work". Instead, I
had to take bits and pieces of documents, and build a system with what
I had -- which was great, for me. But this may not be great for
others. Most machines come with on-board video.. Instead of busting
out >= $100 for a video card with tv-out, and having the fun
associated with setting up tv-out with that card, spend $100 towards
something that requires 0-configuration.

I think there is more than just a slight difference between the
installations. The reason I went with Ubuntu is it doesn't really need
a walkthrough for the installation - even though I did provide one.
Most common sound cards and video cards seem to work with the Ubuntu
installer. I have had a bitch of a time getting straight Debian to
work with my video card and sound card.

>You might want to collaborate with Robert.

I did borrow from his documentation. I'll see if I can get ahold to do
some collaberation.

[mythtv-users] MythTV Install Documentation

2005-02-27 Thread Nav Jagpal
Hi,

I'm in the process of writing a step-by-step install document for MythTV.

You can checkout what I have so far by visiting
http://silver.cs.uvic.ca/~nav/mythtv/index.xhtml

The document itself is written in DocBook, so the appearance can be
changed easily using stylesheets.

I would appreciate any feedback/advice etc. Also, if anyone wants to
help, that would be great!

If you skim the document, you'll see that I am targetting PVR-250. If
anyone wants to add sections for other tuner cards, that would be
great too.

Thanks in advance
