This is what happens if you don't have tv listings for the current
channel. Myth doesn't know the finish time or name of the current
program so it just doesn't start. Fix your listings and the problem
 should go away.

This might be a dumb question, but why can't I just record whatever is
currently being captured by the TV card. Start when I hit 'r' and stop when I
hit it again?

Have we learnt nothing from VCRs?

Two of those times I was in browse ('o') mode.

Again, nothing appears in the recordings screens. Nothing appears on disk in
the obvious place (ie. /video)

[mythtv-users] MythTV sound vanishes for some channels

2005-10-13 Thread Richard Jones
Watching MythTV in LiveTV mode, sometimes when I switch to a channel (e.g. 2)
the sound isn't there. I can switch back to another channel (e.g. 1) and get
sound, but switching to 2 always results in there being no sound. The actual
channels with or without sound seems to be random.

Quitting MythTV and re-entering it (whilst on channel 2) always fixes the
problem (for channel 2), but then switching to yet other channels always has
the same small chance of there being no sound (it could even be channel 1
that subsequently loses sound).

I'm using alsa in hardware passthrough mode. MythTV is RPM installed from
mythtv-suite-0.18.1-55.at

You may get sound dropping out half way through a recording. There is a
setting for the capture cards you need to change.

 Exit mythfrontend, shutdown your backend.
 Run mythtvsetup
Edit your capture cards, in advanced settings / Recording Options
you can select Record in TS format instead of PS

Thanks, as far as I can tell, that has fixed the problem.

If you run a scan in mythtv-setup, does it find all the channels?

Nope. I've attached the log from that. I:

1. Channel Editor
2. Scan for channel(s)
3. Video Source is selected, as is Capture Card and Full Scan
4. All settings Auto, no Frequency set
5. Scan Progress says Scan Activity 0%, Signal Strength 99%, Signal/Noise 0%
6. Error tuning to transport

I should point out that I can watch TV in xine.

Running mythfilldatabase *appears* to work, though I get a lot of ERROR:
can't find DataSet for Nine Guide - 2005-09-18 (for various dates and
channel names) in-between the printing of some hash # signs. This is
  using:

         tv_grab_au - (version 0.6.2 - release 2005-05-31)

Mythfilldatabase is somewhat separate from the actual channel settings.
You may want to check out Michael Smith's script, which seems to be the
favourite here. You can get it from:-

 http://www.immir.com/tv_grab_au

Thanks, I'll give that a go!
