[mythtv-users] A good quiz game for those party nights, for linux??

2005-12-10 Thread Sami Röppänen

Hi,

Just a thought... I dont know if you people know these touchscreen quiz machines laying around the service stations and restaurants... I admit I am a bit addicted to the quiz part of those machines, and can't understand why nobody hasn't made them into linux games.. What is more fun than that with some good friends...

Correct me if I'm wrong.. But disenabling 'use dvb card on demand' causes the dvb card(s) to run hot all the time, and that is not good for a quiet, long lasting system. At least this was the case down 0.15.

[mythtv-users] RE: Nuvexport dvb-recordings to DVD, problem with aspect ratio

2005-03-24 Thread Sami Röppänen

I had a similar problem, where I record in 16:9, but nuvexport and
ffmpeg was transcoding everything to 4:3. I resolved it by hacking the
code in /share/nuvexport/exports/ffmpg/dvd.pm. change the lines from 138
onwards.

Google for the ffmpeg command line options, and you will be able to
force the aspect ratio etc.

Unfortunately I updated my copy of Nuv just the other day, and have just
realised that I did not have the modified code before hand, or I'd post
the change. It wuould be fairly strightforward to dump a question about
aspect ratio in the code.

Thanks!

Editing the DVD.pm (namely adding the line):

 ' -aspect 16:9' to the ffmpeg command made the difference. I'm just wondering,
 how come it was this easy? A bug perhaps?

Hello,

as I previously wrote:

I have managed to get the exported shows to play with correct (4/3) aspect ratio when I SELECT it from eg. mplayers menu. It seems the exported mpeg2 files have no header or something that tells which aspect ratio they ought to be??? Is there an option or configuration tool for nuvexport to select which aspect ratio you want for your show? Or is there something wrong with my recording profile, pls help!

I might add that I'm using the latest FFmpeg (namely 2005/03/18), might this be a bug in the release? Somebody tell me a success story and the versions they use.

[mythtv-users] Nuvexport dvb-recordings to DVD, problem with aspect ratio

2005-03-19 Thread Sami Röppänen

Hello,

I have used mythtv for DVB recordings. I live in western europe, so the transmissions are in PAL format. I have configured the capture format to be 720x576 in resolution, because I heard that's my cards native capture format. I have tried both rjmpeg and Mpeg4.

When I tried to export recorded shows (with nuvexport-dvd, current version) to be burned to DVD, I faced a problem; my newly created mpeg-files become distorded in their aspect ratio (meaning that they are "flat faced" (people seem too tall)).  There is also blank space on the left and right of the screen, for about 30 pixels each. I've tried to edit my /etc/nuvexport.rc with no luck (I've included that files -region on this post).

Note that this is purely Nuvexport problem, the shows that are not yet exported play fine and with correct aspect ratio in mplayer or in windows, with nero mediaplayer. And it's not a problem with my DVD-authoring tool either, infact QDVDAuthor complains about an unknown aspect ratio.

The /etc/nuvexport.rc:

    path = /part3

    use_cutlist = yes
    multipass   = yes

    noise_reduction = yes
    deinterlace = yes
    crop    = yes

    vbr  = yes   # Enable vbr to get the multipass/quantisation options
 # (enabling multipass or quantisation automatically enables vbr)
    multipass    = no   # You get either multipass or quantisation; multipass will override
    quantisation = 5 # 4 through 6 is probably right...  1..31 are allowed (lower is better quality)

    a_bitrate    =  384  # Audio bitrate of 128 kbps
    #v_bitrate    = 960   # Remember, quantisation overrides video bitrate

    width    = 720   # Height adjusts automatically to width, according to aspect ratio
    height   = auto

---Notes;

I have tried tweaking above width and height with no luck as of yet. For example changing width to 768 (as someone in this list succested). But still I think the problem lays in this configuration file. Anyone had luck exporting DVB pal recordings to DVD, and with what resolution/video-options?

[mythtv-users] Nuvexport dvb-recordings to DVD

2005-03-18 Thread Sami Röppänen

This quaetion has been around before, but not quite the aspect I amd for;

I have these DVB recordings that are made 720x576 resolution, rjmpeg or plain mpeg...
When I tried to export those recordings (with nuvexport-dvd) to be burned to DVD, I faced the question: why is my recording flat-faced (aka there is unused space on the left and right and the faces r flat) on each oocasion. I've tried to edit my /etc/nuvexport with no luck (I've included that file on this post).

My recording profile for my DVB card was simply 720x756 (native resolution) mpeg or rjmpeg. Important or not, but when trying to make a DVD with QDVD athor it keeps saying (when recording) "unrecognized
aspect ratio".
