[mythtv-users] Re: Opposite focus problem with xine/MythDVD
I'm experiencing the same issue. It mostly seems to work if I use the keyboard to navigate the mythtv menus but xine opens behind mythtv whenever I use my remote for navigation. Any suggestions welcome Simon - I seem to be having the exact opposite focus problem that most have with xine and MythTV. I just installed a DVD player in my Myth box and wanted to use xine instead of mplayer. I changed the launch command, however when I choose Play DVD from Myth it launches xine but the focus remains on Myth. I've tried searching the list and Docs for a solution, but the only issues I seem to come across are the focus problems going back to Myth from xine (which I don't have). I'm using FC1 and KDE and I've tried tinkering around in KDE's Control Center, but no luck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I've hit a mental dead end. If the file was recorded by a non-hardware card, I'm not sure you can (I've never tried with non DVB/ivtv files) unless the other system can play Nuppelvideo files. I simply want to play back recordings made on the computer in the lounge that runs mythtv (backend and frontend). I presumed they were played on that computer by mplayer or some other application but when I simply tried mplayer filename.nuv on the other linux machine that did not work. Hence my question. Except that neither is really a downside since you already have irxevent if you have lirc. Andhow often do you want a keypress to go to something other than the main window? The advantages of NOT using native lirc are: 1. You can use any app that accepts keyboard input without having to worry about it supporting lirc. 2. You can tie scripts to remote keys. [mythtv-users] Jerky TV, but mandrake mm-kernel cannot play live TV
I have a fairly successful mythtv setup now. I still need to improve my remote control functionality, but it is pretty much there. But I have one major issue, and that is the jerky live TV (and recordings) and of music. I have a celeron 2.26Ghz with 256K RAM and a modern hard disk etc, and an XFX nvidia 5200 card, which should be enough. I'm using Mandrake 10.2 as I know it better, and FC3 would not boot up with everything running properly so I could not switch to a remote control and I ended up loading modules each time. With the stock 10.2 2.6.11 kernel KDETV and Amorak work fine but with mythtv I get an error message about: Realtime priority would require SUID as root. Changing from None to WatchingLiveTV Video timing method: RTC Needless to say I have SUID mythfrontend so the error message is misleading. I've tried to use the 2.6.10-mm kernel but, although I then avoid the SUID message, live TV fails and I get errors about remote encoders now working. This is true with or without the nvidia drivers. I've even tried recompiling the kernel on my own machine but still it blocks. However, I did get it to play some MP3 and I think I could still hear the little jumps anyway. I don't get these with other applications (although an earlier version of Amarok did give difficulties). The picture jumping is sufficiently disturbing to damage the viewing experience, so I need to address it. But I need some ideas to work on as i am stuck. I'm using /dev/dsp for sound on a KDE machine - i'd love to use the ARTS support i've read about but not found. The frontend should, in general, be run as a normal user, and if it runs on a separate machine it should not be able to crash the machine that way. If it does you likely have hardware problems. (The program may crash of course.) I suggest giving a detailed hardware list of what your running on as well as your distribution of linux. Running memtest86 to check for memory errors never hurts as well. Also run 'lspci -v' from root and see what you get. [mythtv-users] Setup in unsupported countries?
Hi I live in Belgium, which is not one of the countries listed in mythtvsetup. However, there are websites that offer a sql script for the channels, their logos, and with XML rips of tv listings and cron files etc The trouble is I can't really work out what order to do it all in, and what it is safe to leave. For example in mythtvsetup I setup a cable video source but as there is no option not to have a country then I leave it on US and don't fill in anything else. Secondly, I have info about the channels being used, but the names don't match what xawtv users. What is supposed to SE8 becomes SE9, and more generally the order is rather different (blocks of channels are in order and then it goes off and does another block). I'm going to need to edit the channels.sql file but I don't know which codes to use - those with M*, H*, ... or those that xawtv uses (and then do I use the xawtv numbers or those in the literature from my cable company). Can anyone help me step-by-step through this - I'll write it all up afterwards to help followers Sim ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

I think the former are more expensive, but don't really understand the difference and which is enough for a computer that will only be used for a PVR office work. [mythtv-users] Need graphics+Tuner recommendations
I'm trying to work out what integrated graphics + tuner card to buy for a system I'm trying to set up with a small form factor. I need a tuner on an AGP card so that I can use the PCI slot for a second tuner. I also want to get DVI output for my LCD screen. I've put full details of what I've learned (from scratch) on http://users.pandora.be/sim/linux/pvr.html but getting the right video card (and then finding it online in Belgium) is where I am not sure. I don't think I need much graphics power - Myth will be the only application running. I know the PVR350 has TV-out but it sounds tought to get configured, so I was erring towards a nVidia solution, as they have generally been good to Linux. But FX, MX, GFroce 2 or 4, ... leave me confused. ATI-based products also seem widely available online, but are these even supported by Linux? [mythtv-users] Do I need TV-out with a DVI TV
I understand that you can connect a VGA computer output to the DVI input of a TV. The connection is analogue, but I think TV-out (s-video) is too, so is there any difference in quality? What about composite, that some video cards also support? DVI only seems to be supported on higher-end video cards and I want to build a system based on a barebones and just rely on the onboard video.. This looks to be the way to go to be future proof but they sure cost a lot more than the PVR150s Does anyone know if Telenet are going to be using DVB-C for their digital - I know they plan to use MHP for the interactivity and MHP is a DVB standard. Is there anything else in the STB other than a DVB-C decoder - do I need one if i get the right sort of PC card. Note that they have not launched their service yet, but I suspect that Dutch experience will be relevant to my predicament Sim ___ mythtv-users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
[mythtv-users] What happens when my cable company switches to digital?
Next summer my cable company are going to switch on the digital TV and then i will need to use a STB to access the new channels. As I understand it with analogue, if I have two tuner cards i can watch and record two channels at once. But if I have a STB does that produce only one channel so that having two tuners becomes meaningless (unless I get two digital decoders - which would just make everything very messy). I know you can't tell me exactly what the Belgians will get, but what is the experience of those that already use STBs to get their cable (i think that includes most Americans?) You would have to use a rf splitter ahead of the capture card and then feed a differeent input on the tv with the split signal. This would cause you to lose the ability to pause live tv and make switching between tv and myth a more complicated situation than needed. (Read, low wife acceptance factor) I would go with a 250 and 350 as my pair of cap cards if you really want to use the 350 for output. I think they finally have the 350 out stabilized to the point that its useful. The 350 is not up to the task of playing fast games if you have any thoughts of going that route. If you are not in a huge hurry you might also want to think about waiting for the 150 support to stabilize. They are quite a bit cheaper than the 250's. OK - I understand now, and can see why people are getting excited about 150 supoprt - it would save money when you need two of them. But that prompts another question - how I do split the cable coax connection between two tuner cards - is that another rf splitter, which is not a term that I understand but my borther will? I feel as though I have not read about any of these issues on the documentation pages, which may be my opportunity to contribute in due course Sim ___ mythtv-users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

I also need another card that has video-out, correct? What card would you all recommend for this? Do you really need two PVT-250s to watch and record at the same time - surely your TV will have a tuner as well? My newby question is therefore whether if I plug the coax cable connection into a P350 (the solution I will likely be taking), does it pass a clean feed through to the TV. If not, what sort of wiring tricks do I need to do to make sure that my TV tuner is not shunted into obscurity?
