hardware mpeg-4 encoder cards for HDTV willbe available?Do those formats burn directly to DVD like the mpeg-2 from the IVTVcards? Or do they need to betranscoded down in resolution/bitrate/whatever before they're burned?
have a RAID 5 (using mdadm) with 3 300gig drives giving me 600gigs, cost $360 for the drives (120 each). Gives me a lot of  recording time, especially after I cut the commercials out. As for DVD you will need to transcode HDTV to the resolution and bitrate compatible with DVD mpeg2.

Hello,I've been thinking about HDTV a bit more lately. Considering pricing an HDTVLCD screen, weighing my options for a linear upgrade path over the next yearor so - things like that. I'm curious... how large are HDTV recordings?
For example, my PVR350 encodes to Mpeg-2 at 1.1Gb/half hour and 2.2Gb/hour.I know HDTV is still mpeg-2, but the resolution is much higher, and ithas AC-3 audio, right? What is a similar file size from a PCHD3000 or similar?
Also, does MythTV support transcoding HDTV to Mpeg-4, but keeping the sameresolution and AC-3 audio? What file size would that produce?Thanks!~7-8gig/hr with commercials for 1080i

~5gig/hr with commercials for 720p

of course, specific bitrates will vary depending on source and network.

[mythtv-users] SVN ~87xx Live TV via Firewire "goes black" in middle of show

2006-01-28 Thread Steven Adeff
Every so often Live TV when being viewed over firewire will go black or freeze on a frame, so far it seems to always happen at the end of a clip (commercial or otherwise), but its not just the issues recently with show changes as it happens in the middle of a show. Nothing freezes, simply hitting ESC and going back to Live TV and it works fine.
