MythDVD is for playing. There's no official plugin for dvd burning.
There are a few unofficial
scripts for doing this, but in my experience, they are pretty tough to
get installed unless you have
the same distro as the authors. Look into MythTVBurn or nuv2disc for
starters. ___

You might try this:

I had to compile all the pieces to do it, but it was not that hard. Have
made a couple of test DVDs without too much trouble. Had to shift the
audio a bit to get it synched up, but nothing real hard.

[mythtv-users] Firewall Setup and MythTV

2005-07-16 Thread Teruel de Campo

ref:
Desktop with SuSE 9.3 and firewall active. There I have MythTV backend and
mysql. Running the frontend there works fine.

Laptop wireless (ibmx40) with SuSE 9.3 and firewall active. I installed a second
front end.

Problem If I stop the firewall in the desktop the frontend in the laptop works
great. If it is active it can not communicate. Reading the documentation I
understand I have to open the TCP port 3306 for the mysql and TCP ports 6543 and
6544.

I have been reading about firewall but being new to linux all the changes I have
done have not effect. I tried to do it graphically with Yast and also tinkering
with /etc/sysconfig/SuSEfirewall2.

Any tips?

[mythtv-users] Wrong picture during liveTV

2005-07-10 Thread Teruel de Campo

It took me a long time to figure out where the problem was.

ref: mobo asus kv8 deluxe with 1.5 GB
amd 64 3200#
ati radeon 9600 pro
3 sata 10K rpm
SuSE 9.3
ivtv-0.3.6w
mythtv-0.18.1

Problem: LiveTV very dark, recording very dark.

Observations:

LiveTV is very dark. Pressing (affects recording) a window comes with the
first choice: brightness, the value 50% is what I had; without any changes
suddenly the picture is ok. If I change values (< >)the brightness change as
suppose to.

This is the abnormal behavior of this problem:
- If I change channels, they are dark as soon as I press G are ok.
- This changes are not retained. If I go back to the channel that was ok is dark
again, G makes it normal
- Also if I continue going though the loop pressing G as soon as color or hue
shows the picture becomes dark again.
- If I select a channel and is dark and press G and comes with the preselected
value of 50% for example and then I change it to 90% for example (very light)
and I close mythtv and watch mplayer (mplayer /dev/video0), it is very light so
the value is pass OK the ivtv module. If I open again mythtv and watch liveTV
is dark as soon as I press G is very light (90%) as is supposed to be.

So it seems 'activate' the values stored.
- Now if I play with the buffer in liveTV, the buffer will have whatever was in
liveTV and you can see there the effect of pressing

6.2 Recording is very dark and I do not have any way to change it.

works as supposes to but can not compensate for the dark recording.

Method: trying to resolve it I removed xv, I change values in xv with xattr and
I change anything I could think of with no effect. Because mplayer has always
been working well I though the problem must be with mythtv. I also did many many
uninstall and install of both ivtv and mythtv all with no effect.

Solution: I remove ivtv and install an ivtv-0.2.0-rc3k and suddenly everything
is OK.
I do not know when this problem has been introduced but the change was with ivtv
and not with mythtv.

Hope it saves many days of work to some of you.

Seems that the changes are not change in the tables and whenever

i had this same problem (tho' i didn't know about the option) ... it
was solved by turning off XV color control in the settings ...

I have xv controls unchecked (I am referring to the xv control in the
mythfronend setup correct?) and still the problem persist.
I know I have xv off because now the key does not do anything, is this
correct? The key still works and still does the trick I describe above.
Should the G key worked when xv controls are unchecked in the setup?

[mythtv-users] Recording: how to adjust color?

2005-07-06 Thread Teruel de Campo
I posted a couple of message and I got not answers :-( . I just compiled from
source everything except mysql (only I dropped mythconverg)and the problem
persist. I am using ivtv-0.3.6.w. I get no error during compilation and except
for this problem the rest is ok.

The recording is very dark as well as .nuv during live tv. If I press during
live TV suddenly the picture is ok. Recording picture is always dark.

Where can I change the recording color?

Why whenever I start mythtv the color is reset to dark? Here is the weird
behavior:

If I look at liveTV the is very dark:

(1) If I press G (the window comes preset to 50% for example)suddenly without
any adjustments the color is perfect. For some reason mythtv can not read the
preset 50% until G is press?. If I exit mythtv and then I use the mplayer the
picture is perfect.

(2) If I donot press G the picture is dark. If I exit and then use the mplayer
the picture is dark

In summary the ivtv module seems to work as it should. Mythtv can not read the
color setup until the G is press.

Why?

Could it be problems with permission in mysql?

I have spend time looking at the users lists, reinstalling and learning mysql
but I can not figure out where the problem is. I would appreciate any direction
any of you can point me where to look at it.

[mythtv-users] SuSE 9.3 64 and mythtv

This is how far I got:

1. Installation of ivtv(0.3.6w.tgz) went OK.

2. Ptune-ui.pl running OK

3. Watching TV and changing channels through mplayer OK.

4. Installation of mythtv-0.18.1.tar.bz2 from source; no compilation errors. I
have not install any modules like remote control etc.

5. Everything seems to be ok, the channels are populated.

6. Here the problem:

6.2 Recording is very dark.

works as supposes to but can not compensate for the dark recording.

I can not figure out what is wrong. I have been working on it for weeks
reinstalling etc with no luck. Could it be due to problem in permission in the
mysql tables?. Which tables contain this data? I have found the data that is
affected by but not the one affected by . Please any suggestion and will

Re: [mythtv-users] IVTV issues (picture with artifacts, strange colors)

2005-06-01 Thread Teruel de Campo

Teruel,
I have not tried the G button. What function is associated that button?

Mats,

(1) I have ignored the ivtv as cause of my problems because if I use mplayer I
do not have any problem. The image is perfect in any channel.

(2) The G button works during "watching tv" and according to keys.txt file
"rotates between the various Picture Adjustments (Color, Hue etc) for recording.
These values affect the look of the resulting .nuv file, and are independent of
the playback picture settings. When picture adjustment is on screen use Left and
Rigth arrows to adjust"

In my case when you watch tv the picture is all distored colors, brigthness etc.
If you press G the online adjustment bar and text shows and WITHOUT doing
anything else seems to do a reset and suddenly everything is perfect. When I
move into the buffer back and forth it can record ok (the same segment you can
view ok).

In summary I wonder what effect G has besides what is described in the key.txt.
BTW the picture adjustment features of the G work well.

Seems that I am so close to have the system running but I have tried everything
and do many searches in the users lists without luck. I may post in the
development list to get some direction of what to do.

Mario,

I as wrote to Patrick the problem is that is not darkness and bad quality all
the time. As soon as I press the G key everything changes. If I do a schedule
recording is terrible the brightness and quality. If I tried to corrected with
the F key and increase brightness 100% the brightness increases but it is not
watchable. The quality is affected.
My question is what else I am doing pressing the G key than just activating the
brightness?

Why when in LiveTV the picture is so bad before I press the G?
I can probably answer partially the last question. What I am watching in live TV
is the immediate recording of the TV signal which is very bad. When I do
schedule recording is the same. If in life TV I press the G key everything is ok
including the "immediate recording' that I can watch with P < >. In schedule
recording nobody is there to press the G key and therefore the recording is not
good.

Why?

If I am watching live TV when I start the tv seems to be reading from the
buffer, the picture is dark and the "quality even may be different" is
essentially impossible to watch. Now if I press the G key brightness and the value is setup at 50%> show up. Without doing anything
suddenly I get a perfect picture. Same happens with all the channels. If I
change channels and come back to the previous one I have to press G again. The
buffer when I move backward shows what I saw in TV dark and also good picture
that corresponds to the time i press the G key.
In summary. I can get a good picture and I can record in the buffer a good
picture. If I do schedule recording the quality is terrible it seems that the
recording is like the liveTV without pressing the G key.

[mythtv-users] Gradual advances in mythfilldatabase

2005-02-13 Thread Teruel de Campo
I have not been able to run mythfilldatabase successfully. What I did now was
to select only one channel
in zap2it.com then run mythfilldatabase .
The result is that I can fill most of the dates for that particular channel
finishing with a time out
error at the end.
For example today sat 13 I run the mythfilldatabase all the dates get the info
until the last day where
finishes with a time out error.
The first snip shows the last part of this run with February 25 completes ok
and Feb 26 produce the error. I do not fully understand the error message
mainly after successfully completing almost
a week of data.
The second snip is the info when I started the backend.
Note: Backend and front end are in the same machine. IP is 127.0.0.1
I appreciate any help. I am so close to have MythTV running, my only problem
has been with mythfilldatabase. I have
look into all the threads in the newsgroup as well a crush course in mysql and
I can not find where the problem is.
I am sure is obvious but I just can not see it.

[mythtv-users] mythfilldatabase does not complete

2005-02-11 Thread Teruel de Campo
ref:
-mythtv-0.17
-mysql Ver 12.22 Distrib 4.0.21, for suse-linux (x86_64)
-ivtv-0.3.2b
-Server and client in the same machine
-amd64
Problem: after ./setup and run mythfilldatabase, it does not complete.
Everything else is working ok.
Before run mythfilldatabase I am sure that mysql is running. I check
mythconverg and it is ok. I have reviewd almost everything I can find
and I have followed the instructions one by one and it is always the same
problem. This is not due to mythtv 0.17
because the same happened with 0.16. I was hopping that the new version would
it solve it but
Please give any direction where to look at it. I am sure that some of you went
through the same problem.

It seems that mythfilldatabase can not connect with mythconverg. The more I
look into it the more
I believe is a problem of permission but I do not know where to check it.
Everything that I have checked
looks ok (at leat to me).
I appreciate any help where should I look for.
TIA

sure its a config that got screwed up somewhere, but I don't know
where to look. Recordings and live tv have the same problem, even
recordings that were made previously that i've seen with sound!!!
Andy,
Sound depends on the hardware. If you are using PVR-25/350 the most likely
cause is that msp3400
was replaced. Often happens with online installation of a new kernel. In both
the ivtv doc and
mythtv doc there is referrence to this problem.

I had problems in the installation of mythtv. The problems are mainly related
to mysql permission etc and mythfilldatabase does not run. All the rest is
working ok:-)
I am in the process of starting again from the begining.
I plan to run both server and client in the same machine.
Do I need to login as as suggested by Jarod? or can I use my usual login
?
If I use as login where in the mysql I have to make the changes if any?

Rich,
Sorry I have to bug you again. You were correct in your message about my
problems with the mytyfilldatabase.
I'm trying to determine if my permissions are corrrect as well as the parameter
to start the server.
I am new to linux and mysql. Mythtv has my introduction to this new enviroment
so many obvious things are not
obvious for me :-(.
Above are all the databases I have in mysql.
Do you see any problems?
Should I change the User in the mythconverg to mythtv?
TIA.
Initially I though the hardest part was going to be the module vide/sound and I
was wrong.
Everything was easy until I start to deal with mysql. Well I will go step by
step until
the whole thing is solved.

[mythtv-users] mythfilldatabase

2005-01-19 Thread Teruel de Campo
wintv-pvr 350
amd64
suse 9.2
Problem: mythfilldatabase does not run. I spend days checking threads
with no luck. Please I need your help ;-)

Present State: Myth running ok both video and sound. After piping mc.sql
and doing the setup I get the channels fill only for the following
day. I can program the recording and it works.
I am using DataDirect to get the TV listing in the USA.
I have not install XMLTV.
Mythfilldatabase: If I do the setup for mythtv when is done ask me to
run mythfilldatabase. If I do it completes with errors and I have to
reinstall and not run mythfilldatabase to be able to run the
mythbackend. Then I check to run the mythfilldatabase
inside of the front end. But is does not run.

Walk through test: After a fresh reboot of the system and have mysql
starting at boot. I do the following steps:

(a) Load the modules
# depmod -ae
# modprobe ivtv
(b) check mysql is running:
$ ps ax | grep mysql
 5353 ?S 0:00 /bin/sh /usr/bin/mysqld_safe --user=mysql
--pid-file=/var/lib/mysql/mysqld.pid --socket=/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock
--datadir=/var/lib/mysql
 5501 ?Sl 0:00 /usr/sbin/mysqld --basedir=/usr
--datadir=/var/lib/mysql --user=mysql
--pid-file=/var/lib/mysql/mysqld.pid --skip-locking --port=3306
--socket=/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock
 7041 pts/1R+ 0:00 grep mysql

That should be a decent start on troubleshooting the problem.
Thank you for everything. It seems everything is working ok. I was
wondering why I can not do

# myth filldatabase
From the reading I though that you could do it any time to refresh the
table.
I'll keep this message and thxs much for all the tips.

your database isn't running and/or you did not set it up correctly.
mysql.sock exists but is mysql running? did you set the database up? did
you read this:

http://wilsonet.com/mythtv/fcmyth.php#mysql
Thxs for your reply. I believe I set it up OK. I will read the pointer!
What I did is
#mysql_install_db --user=mysql
To initialize the grant tables
# mysqld_safe --user=mysql &
to start the server
# mysql < /home/tdec/multimedia/mythtv-0.16/database/mc.sql
If I run mysql status
amd64:/etc/rc.d # ./mysql status
Checking for service MySQL:running
On the other hand when within the mythfront end I open /Manage
Recording/Schedule Recording/and Program finder or Program Guide all the
fields are populated with the program data. In summary everything seems
to be working well.

My question is why when I close both the backend and frontend and I run
$ mythfilldatabase
I got those error. Of course before I do it I have the mysql server
running. Is this command correct to refresh the data base?

[mythtv-users] mythfilldatabase howto?

2005-01-16 Thread Teruel de Campo
I'm new to linux. My first project as an introduction to linux has been
MythTV. Im am not familiar with mysql. I am reading from the site as
well as man and a book I got (mysql /Duboi).
-
Sytem: SuSE 9.2 running amd64.
Wintv-pvr 350
ivtv 0.3.2.a
mythtv 0.16
--
Present status:

ivtv device driver working very well both sound and video
mythv working very well. both watch tv and recording.
The three steps i did to install and run mythtv:
(1) run the ./setup for mythtv . When setup finishes it ask to run
mythfilldatabase to populate the channel. I have to IGNORE this instruction
(2) run backend
(3) run front end
Setup the mythfilldatabase inside mythtv and waint until the following
day to populate the channels with information. Then everything OK

---
Here my questions.
(1) if I run mythfilldatabase
$ mythfilldatabase
It runs, it connects to DataDirect, it seems to get all the information,
then loops again and again and finally stop with error that can not access

mysql.sock exist and if I change the permission.
chown -R mysql /var/lib/mysql
then reports a error in program.myi
The final result is that I have to reinstall the mc.sql and also mythtv.
So my approach is just to IGNORE to run mythfilldatabase except within
mythtv as I said before.

My questions: running
$ mythfilldatabase
is this correct? Or I am missing option/parameters?
(2) How can you run mythfilldatabase from outside of mythtv? How can I
refresh the channels from outside mythtv?.
In the mythtv manual there is a session in how to use the cron method.
Is this the ONLY other way to do it?.

In summary my impression is that running
$ mythfilldatabase without parameters is not correct (BTW --help did not
help me)

That there are only 2 ways to run it one is within mythtv like I am
doing it now and the other is with cron. Am I correct?

Any ideas, any instructions, any general statments may help me to
understand what I am doing with mythfilldatabase/mysql

TIA

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone has a preference between AMD and Intel for a
MythTV box.
I have an amd64 with winTV-pvr 350. I love it. I have not found any
problems and the SuSE 64 distro works very transparent.
The ivtv device driver and mythtv are working very well.
I have in this system OS/2 and XP and no problems either.

If have to get a new system now I would get the amd fx64

[mythtv-users] Backedn INPUT screen empty

2005-01-05 Thread Teruel de Campo
I am trying to get the backend setup. Initially it seems everything went
OK. However I realized I did not have a subscription to the DataDirect
so I exit the setup and I did the registration. Now I started the setup
again and all seems to be ok except that the input screen is blank and
there is nothing to select. I know the first time have all the choices:
Composities1, 2 etc.
I compiled mythtv again with no success.
Any tips where I can recreate all the inputs ?
Why this screen was ok in my first setup (at the time even I choose
composite one and stick on the screen) and now is blank?
What do I have to remove to be able to reinstall the backend clean?

Thxs.
