My reseach pointed to a likely hardware issue, so one at a time I tried
the following:

- swap RAM with a known "good" chip
- swap RAM with a different known "good" chip
- ran memtets86 for a week (no failures)
- moved around the PCI cards
- swapped video cards
- tried different PVR500 cards
- swapped CPUs
- kernal updates to 2.6.12
After each change the system still crashed with the exact same error.
More research pointed to a potential issue with the nVideo chipset and
DMA. I then set the system to boot with no DMA and it is rock solid.
The only problem is that 3 or 4 PVR500 recordings and a stream or two
leave the system in a 50% cpu wait state due to the slow disk.
I'm having a hard time believing there is a DMA issue with the nVideo
chipset and there is virtually no discussion of it, so I assume it's
something hardware related to the disk.
Next I'm planning to pull the CDROM and swap the IDE cables. Does
anyone have other ideas I should try? I've been holding off on:
- a power supply swap since I don't have a big enough spare and would
hate to spend the money for a "test".

- drive swap since it will be a pain
- motherboard swap since it will be an expensive test
BTW, it is an ABIT NF8 motherboard that I am otherwise very happyy with.

My money is on the mobo. I went through 3 of them before I found one that
was compatible with my PVR 350.

I would get 12-24 hour lock-ups just like you.

Was that 3 different motherboards or 3 of ABIT motherboards?

[mythtv-users] Pronto TSU3000

2005-08-24 Thread Todd Pearsall
Does anyone use the TSU3000 with MythTV that has a screen they want to
share? Remote central didn't have one so I thought I'd check here before I
created one from scratch.

Thanks,

Re: [mythtv-users] Re: apt-get on FC3 still broken?

2005-07-26 Thread Todd Pearsall
I'm coming in late to this thread, but this weekend I installed FC3 (several
times in fact) without trouble. I let up2date upgrade the distribtion and just
used apt-get to install the mythtv-suite. The backend I left at 2.6.9 since the
upgrade to 2.6.12 didn't seem to include the source I needed to compile ivtv.
The frontend I let up2date upgrade to 2.6.12 and it's running smoothly.

Re: [mythtv-users] What's a good mini front-end-only box?

2005-07-18 Thread Todd Pearsall

I have only tried it on a very limited basis and the audio was way out of
sync instantly and haven't gotten back to debug it further. I did rip the
5.1 sound track in Myth, but not sure if I marked the AC3 box at the time.
I don't know how what formats are decoded and where, but my laptop plays
DVDs (myth and Windows) just fine so I assume the player is decoding for me
or something similar.

Sorry I can't provide a more knowledgeable answer, but how the audio streams
are handled is beyond me.

Todd,

How are you watching DVDs ? MVP doesn't have a dolby digital 5.1
decoder. Almost all dvds are encoded in 5.1. So are you
re-encoding/downmixing the sound to 2 channel stereo ? Or you dvds
have 2 channel stereo option.

When I tried to play some VOB files (renamed to mpg), I was able to
watch DVD but no sound came. I also recorded programs from my HD3000
card. I had to downres to 720x480 and to 2 channel stereo using vlc in
order to watch them via media mvp.

Thanks

Mudit

It

I have audio sync issues with ripped DVDs, but TV playback works well.
You
can watch and delete recordings, but you cannot currently schedule using
the
MediaMVP box. It can only play MPEG1/MPEG2 video, no dice on MPEG4 so you
can't transcode the shows.
