Doing HDTV with the dual-core 3800+ would probably be pretty nice, it'd

The problem is the kernel doesn't have the dvb support for the Fusion

My personal experience has been that nvidia cards work better with myth
than radeons.  A lot of people have had success with Radeons so I
don't want to give them a bad reputation.  Your onboard video will
work with xvmc, which drastically lowers the cpu requirements for hd
decoding.  I can do it easily on an Athlon XP 2000 with xvmc
enabled.  You would need to use the nvidia binary drivers
though.  I recommend sticking with the onboard nvidia stuff.

which I think is MPEG2 though I could be wrong!
The one feature that comes to mind that doesn't work as well on the
xbmc frontend as it does in Linux is live tv.  Last time I
checked, they have made great strides with this (before you had to exit
out, change the channel, start watching again), but it's still not up
to the Linux frontend level.

The 8bit vs 10bit thing is only for the analog side so it won't affect the hdtv stuff.

I do not know how to help you with the problem of the pink stripe, but
setting your box to output 720p or 1080i will have no effect on what

If it's the same one as this one:

then I got it working in my Myth setup. Some people have had problems
with the QAM tuning, but I fortunately haven't.

Sure no problem. I have Cox in northern Virginia. I'm getting a
couple QAM256 channels (NBC-HD, CBS-HD, FOX-HD, and ABC-HD). I'm
using the cvs dvb driver (from right when Taylor added QAM support to
the dvb-kernel) patched onto the 2.6.10 kernel. I have heard of
people having problems with scanning with this card, but after I
submitted my patch to dvb-kernel for the frequencies over 806mhz,
everything went fine from there.

I've had the same issues with my 6200TC card. Can't get xv to work
reliably. X's cpu usage is extremely high. When I try xvmc the 720p
clips work but the 1080i ones kill the frontend.

Re: [mythtv-users] Mac Mini Frontend - HDTV Capable?

I think the best method of getting the Mac Mini to play HD streams
would be through xvmc. Myth already supports it and I'm pretty sure
the Radeon 9200 has the capable hardware. You just have to bug ATI to
provide it in their binary drivers (and support the powerpc platform
too).

You are cutting it somewhat close with that system. The devs
recommend P4s with hyperthreading because they seem to be better at
decoding. I can vouch for it because my P4 530 decodes 1080i hd
streams with ease (when it works, but I'm currently having huge issues
with nvidia's drivers). However, you can use XVMC to help with
decoding and the requirements go way down. I haven't used it
much so I'd check to see how well it's working before you buy any
hardware.

As for the mac mini, that doesn't have nearly enough power for HD streams.

That is how the video is synced to the audio (unless video as

It looks to me like you need a more powerful cpu or a capture card
with onboard encoding. Those C3 chips don't have enough power for
encoding and decoding on the same machine. If you stick a PVR250 in

You can use nvidia's binary driver. It's really unstable but it might
work for you. You can download it from their website. Then you just
set myth to use /dev/dsp.

If you're getting that error message you most likely compiled mythtv
with the wrong dvb header files. I got this same error, but after I
copied the files from dvb-kernel over the ones in
/usr/include/linux/dvb, my problem went away.

Just so you know, I had that same problem with not being able to

If possible, the best option is 2.6.10 with the cvs of dvb-kernel. I

I just wanted to update everyone because apparently I had just been
replying to Taylor instead of the list (oops). We found out that on
the website of the Air2PC card it says the card can only tune up to
806mhz. This is a misprint. In the spec sheet it says the correct
860mhz value. I was able to tune 5 more channels just by changing the
value to 860mhz in the nxt2002.c driver. Thanks Taylor for all the
help! Maybe this will help some people having trouble tuning
channels.

Apparently the ebuild looks for the mythfrontend stuff in

mythtv-0.17.bz2 file, move everything to mythfrontend-0.17, then tar
it back up again, it should work.

Yeah, I doubt the cable companies would want to re-encode the signal
to 480p. It would require much more sophisticated cable boxes. You
can't just change resolutions with firewire like you can over
component or DVI. An mpeg stream with a set resolution comes in over
the cable wire and is sent out the firewire port. In order to change
that resolution you have to completely re-encode the stream.

QAM is a way for cable operators to send HD channels over cable. Some
leave them unencrypted, others encrypt them. If they are unencrypted,
a card like the HD3000 should be able to receive them. Fortunately
for me, my cable company leaves them unencrypted.
