RE: [mythtv-users] Can not get my HD-3000 to work

2005-09-24 Thread Marc Tousignant

Ok, I think I know the problem but I have never used knoppmyth.

The DVB Driver is configured via the DVB section of myth-setup. Not the V4L
or the HD-2000/3000 section.

I believe I have everything setup right, am able to go to the Phone page
and view live TV in the upper left had corner but when I select Watch TV,
nothing comes up on my computer monitor (800x600).

These are my settings;

System:
• KnoppMyth

Mythtv-setup
• Capture card setup
o Card Type : pcHDTV capture card (HD-2000, HD-3000)  from drop down
menu
o Video device: /dev/video32
o Default Input : Television

• Input Connections (Note nothing show up unless I have setup my capture
card as V4L (video for linux) or DVB (digital video broadcast), I have
analog cable at home), the HD3000 card does not show up as an input
connection. I have a disk for drivers, since am new to linux, can someone
please walk be thru installing the drivers.
o DVB : /dev/video32
o V4L: / dev/video0

Thanks

Which kernel are you using?
Are you using the DVB driver or the V4L driver?

Re: [mythtv-users] Can not get my HD-3000 to work

2005-09-24 Thread Erik Pettersen
I think we need more information.. I assume you want to tune ATSC OTA
HDTV (hows that for acronym soup!) and not analog/NTSC.

I assume you've been to a resource like http://www.antennaweb.org
and found out whether or not there are HDTV stations broadcasting in
your area, and have a sufficient antenna attached to the HD3000 and
have it oriented correctly...

When I was playing with my HD-3000 card with the latest Knoppmyth It
loaded the DVB drivers *automagically* for me =P I didn't have much
luck with MythTV proper (for multitude of reasons, and when I get back
on the horse I'll be in better shape to tackle that) BUT I was able to
succesfully test both OTA HDTV and QAM 256 via cable by following the
command line tests in these posts on the HD3000 forum:

http://www.pchdtv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=693

http://www.xmission.com/~pchdtv/forum/viewtopic.php?t=688

If I opened up multiple shells/terminals and set it up like they
described I could tune stations and cat the results to a .ts or mpeg
file which I could view via xine or mplayer

There is a little bit of a steep learning curve at first, but
eventually I got the hang of it and maybe learned a thing or two...
(or not...) and at least proved my card worked and got to poke around
to see what QAM channels my cable co had in the clear...

Re: [mythtv-users] Can not get my HD-3000 to work

2005-09-24 Thread Greg Woods
The only way I could get my HD-3000 to work with ANALOG cable input was
to use the V4L drivers. I'm not saying that's a definitive answer, it
was just my experience. But Marc is right that it does depend on what
kernel version you are using. I tried to use the DVB drivers that I
downloaded from pchdtv.com with a 2.6.10 kernel and never could make
that work. I still don't really know if the DVB drivers are *supposed*
to work with analog cable input.
