Don't do this from a terminal, do it from the actual tv screen, or have

id:5:initdefault:

If it's not 5, make it 5, and reboot. X should start automatically.

Maybe I'm using the wrong terminology. When my Xbox boots I select through the menu to boot Linux once that completes I'm sitting at a blank screen with a Login: on the TV. I log in to the system then I am sitting at a command line at which time I've tried to simply start X by start x.
My last post was from a VNC connection in which case it was able to start the Mythfrontend.I'll check on the runlevel and post back. Thanks,

Is the login screen graphical or text? Your system really does not sound

Well I finally figured it out. By running 'Xorg' I was able to get X to start so I got to thinking that maybe it wasn't an X problem. I then started wondering if there was a front end installed like KDE or GNOME, and there wasn't.
So, I installed KDE and it fired right up, X that is or should I say KDE? Anyway I guess I now have the issue of figuring out how to start the frontend automatically instead of having to manually lauch it. The other question I have does mythfrontend have to run in KDE or some other 'front end' application?
I'll repost since this is a different problem and no one knows the answer. Thanks for all the help to everyone in this thread!!!ajm,

As far as I know you don't need to have all of the machines on the same
subnet. There's a file you edit (sorry, don't have access to any distcc
machine now) that has a list of available hosts. Just put the names or
IP numbers in there. No need for DNS if you use IPs.

One machine (typically the one launching the compile) acts as the
controller. The other machines need to have either the distcc daemon
running or have it set up properly in xinetd.

When you kick off make, distcc on the local machine looks at the list of
distcc servers, and parcels out the work.

Perform the compile on your backend. Ideally, you want to optimise
for P3 and a small memory system. After the 'make' has finished, use
NFS to export the source directory. Mount the NFS share on your xbox
and perform the 'make install' from there.
