Question, if you don't have a CD drive how do you get the ISO from the CD onto the HD? [mythtv-users] HOW CAN THIS BE THIS HARD!?!?!?! (adding 2 files to a bootable iso)
My MythTV box needs the BIOS updated. This can only be done from Windows, or a Windows 98 boot disk. My MythTV Box doesn't have a floppy drive. (They are ugly and hold next to nothing.) So I got the win98SE boot iso from http://www.allbootdisks.com/index.php?option=com_remositoryItemid=42func=selectfolderfilecatid=10 Using nothing but Linux I must modify the iso to add 2 files and then burn. I used different instructions though: http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/ You'll need a windows2000/xp to create a bootable iso. Don't know if that works for you. Re: [mythtv-users] HOW CAN THIS BE THIS HARD!?!?!?! (adding 2 files to a bootable iso)
I don't know if you've tried this or not, but you can try mounting the ISO using the loopback device, something like (the directory /mnt/iso must exist first): mount -t iso -o loop filename.iso /mnt/iso You'll need to be root to do this. After you unmount the ISO, your changes should be in the ISO image, ready to burn. The only thing, is that I don't know if this preserves the El Torito boot information. I would guess it's part of the ISO, but I don't know how that's laid out. (Also, if the ISO contains multiple sections (like a bootable floppy portion which gets mapped to A:, and a hard drive-like portion that gets mapped to somewhere else, well, I definitely don't know how to deal with that). -- Joe --- Richard Bronosky [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: My MythTV box needs the BIOS updated. You can still do this step to access the files for rebuilding it. (Note the type is iso9660 not iso) So mount the iso, and copy all the files out of the iso into a prototype directory where you make your changes. Something like rsync -a ./src/ ./dst/ would do the trick. (Also, if the ISO contains multiple sections (like a bootable floppy portion which gets mapped to A:, and a hard drive-like portion that gets mapped to somewhere else, well, I definitely don't know how to deal with that). The iso is probably a floppy emulated cd. See if one of the files in the iso is a floppy image. If you can't find it, just download a boot floppy from one of the bootdisk sites, and place it inside the prototype directory where you are making changes. Then rebuild the iso: mkisofs -b ./path_inside_cdproto_dir/bootfloppy.img \ -o bootcd.iso ./cdproto_dir/ Burn that. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

Oh for crying out loud think laterally... Download a bootable win98 iso with included CD drivers... Burn it and boot the mythbox with it... Take the disk out and burn it again with the flash util and the flash bin file (you may need 10MB juck file to pad out the CD) Stick it back in the mythbox and run the flash util and reflash the bios... There was a great discussion with a billion different ways ( which doesn't always help, but hey) on slashdot a few months ago Why Do We Have to Use a Floppy to Flash BIOS? http://ask.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/06/29/2135208 I found a lot of neat howto/ideas command line nuggets in the comments (in between the troll posts, and hot grits of course!) e. -- http://www.byopvr.com On 8/22/05, Lee [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Oh for crying out loud think laterally...
