Are you looking to be able to play your TV files also? What would be a
good way to duplicate files from the backend to the car PC for
something like that? Anybody got any good ideas?
Wireless access point in the garage. A Magnetic antenna on the trunk
to a wireless card in the laptop. The car could connect for the
night and update. A lot of GigaBytes to transfer, but it has all
night to do it. When done, it could shut itself down for the night.

I'm guessing you would run this myth box as a back and frontend all in
one. Then you would mount a network drive that holds the Tv files. You
would have to run a script that duplicates the files then also enters
the information into the database for these files. Does that sound
about right. I could see this being a nice answer for my trips wit
hthe kids. record a full day of Disney and transfer to the car.
That should not be too hard to set up. My kids are grown, so I really
only need the music but the ability to do Video is a nice plus.

With VNC and a wireless access point you could set it up from your
desk or even while watching MythTV in your living room. :) -Chuck-

It seems like a remote wouldn't be all that difficult to get going
though. Most car stereos come with remote now. It may not be a perfect
answer, but it would do the job.

As for the mythMusic front end. I haven't used it a lot in the .16
release, but it seems much better. Before I think I remember having to
make a play list now you can browse your music directly on the play
screen. I like it.

You won't be able to use the touchscreen with Mythtv. It doesn't
support a mouse at the moment.

[mythtv-users] Running MythTV in a car computer

2005-01-05 Thread Chuck Rice
I have just ordered an in-dash touch-screen monitor for my car:

and I am trying to decide wether to keep my current Mac Laptop with
iTunes for my car Stereo or switch to a Linux/MythTV solution. My
current trunk computer (an iBook Macintosh) has a about 12,000 songs
on it and I love the setup, but the dashboard input has been wanting.
I hope that the new touchscreen display will solve this issue, but
now that I use MythTV in the house, I thought that it might be nice
to use a common interface. Has anyone else done this and what are the
pitfalls that I might run into with MythTV running on a laptop
computer in the trunk? I have not been able to look at MythMusic yet
as it will not install on my FC 3 system. Is it as capable as iTunes?
