I have exactly the same problem with a 6200 card, and I tried all of
these.
I posted here about it a couple of days ago. The digital vibrance control
is all the way off by default. X Server Xvideo settings to control hue,
saturation, brightness, and contrast don't exist for the the 6200, and
that's the crux of the problem. X Server color correction only allows
gamma correction. You can get a poor-mans hue control by adjusting red
and green separately, but there's no way to adjust saturation with gamma
correction, and that's the real problem. The colors are so blown out that
it is unwatchable.

It'd be nice to get a 5300PCX card, but those aren't made anymore and
they're hard to find.

That's easy to solve. Load up "nvidia-settings" and turn off "Digital
Vibrance" (Turn it down to 0).

That should solve your problem. If not, go into the "X Server XVideo
Settings" area and play with the controls there. If the problem's not
just in video, try the "X Server Color Correction" option instead.

nVidia used to produce the GeforcePCX 5300, which was basically (IIRC) a
GeforceFX 5200 with a PCI Express-to-AGP bridge chip. I found one on eBay
yesterday and snagged it for about $40; when it arrives, it's going into my
Mythbox and the 6200 I bought for it last weekend is going back to Fry's.

(My main complaint with the 6200 is that colors are way too saturated, and
there's no way to crank them back to more natural levels within MythTV.)

Right, which isn't really a loss, Myth looks beautiful without it when you use
the right theme (quick plug for Justin's Project Grayhem theme).

I've got my myth running off an old GeForce3 based card and it seems to be
working fine so far. I should prbly upgrade it, but I need a newer HDTV first

[mythtv-users] Which NVIDIA chipset to use the OSDChromaKey Features

2006-01-12 Thread Chris Glover
Hi,

I currently have an NVIDIA 6200 PCI-E based card in my Myth box. It
seems this card will not support the Chromakey OSD. Running xvattr does
not list the XV_COLORKEY variable.

Anybody here successfully using an NVIDIA PCI-E based card with Myth,
and if so which one?

I'm steering well clear of ATI after the trouble I had getting the linux
drivers to work on my laptop.

Thanks in advance

Chris
