Thanks for the link to a SQUATTER SITE! But the first statement in the
beginning of this thread was begging people DO NOT SUGGEST
ALTERNATIVES! I don't want an additional piece of hardware (that
requires it's own transformer) hanging off the back of a SFF HTPC!

todd bailey wrote:

all of the svga cards out today produce rgb + hv, ie red green blue and

there are companies that have hardware that will take this format and
convert it to component video.

www.videoone.com for example has this hardware.

find a video card chip set that is well supported and buy one of these
converters and you'll be golden

It should. The colors on the back of a TV or even on the back of the
DVD player are Red, Green and blue. All should be well.

NVidia makes several cards that have component output on them. I do
most of my shopping through www.newegg.com and they refer to it as
HDTV out. I just posted a question yesterday regarding this card:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814127174

It has the component outs on it. I figure I will probably have to run
Powerstrip in Windows to get a good ModeLine for this card and my
analog Sony Wega with component inputs. This card is capable of
outputting 480i (Analog), 480p(DVD HighDef), 720p(HD), 1080i(HD). I
plan on just using the 480i for now, but if I get an HD TV, there ya
go!

Re: [mythtv-users] YPrPb component out for MythTV

2005-07-31 Thread Dan Christian
I have a 6600GT from BFG Tech (model 6600 GTOC). It outputs component fine
(mostly).

I do have a bug that the VGA text output on DVI (dual screen mode), has funny
colors when I'm also using the component (cloned dual screen). Text that
should just be white on black is magenta in the middle. Weird, but readable.
X looks fine.

I can get 480p and 540p working fine. 1080i jitters up-down (like the
interlace timing is wrong) on both DVI and component. I can't test 720p on
my HDTV.

I haven't been able to compensate for the overscan of the monitor at HDTV
resolutions. Nvidia has a control for this, but it doesn't seem to have any
effect in the HDTV modes. In text mode, the component output does correct
for overscan but DVI doesn't. It's always nice to see the line you are
typing. :-)

If anyone has a working 1080i or a way to properly compensate for overscan,
I'd love to hear it.

fe/be combined

cannot test HDTV - only broadcaster here is euro1080 and i have no access
i also have no hd display.

looking at the CPU load for 720x576, X is using about 12% and mythfrontend is
using about 10%. this is with analogue cable (crappy signal) and a PVR350
with a bitrate of 4500/6000 (default). if i drop that to 2000/3000, the CPU
load for mythfrontend goes down to 7-8%.

this is with a 1.87GHz pentium-M and 2x 512M DDR2 533 CL4

i would believe that this m/b should handle HDTV (and aopen says so also)

It looks like XV support is poor on nVidia's newer chips:

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=8f9a3c82b629b39c19734d40e3315f68t=54336

If that thread is accurate, I think it means newer 6800 and all 6600
and 6200 cards. Does anyone know any different?

I guess I didn't pay attention to the reports of people on
this list having problems with these cards. I got a 6600 card and
playing a 720p video at 720 or 1080 resolution just maxes out an
Athlon64 3500 with the X server using more than 60% of the CPU. There
are also no XV controls for brightness, saturation, etc.

BTW, the nVidia GeForce 6600/6600GT chipset seems to be capable of
processing YPrPb in the GPU, but many manufacturers (like ASUS) choose
not to enable YPrPb support out the DIN connector. If you know of a
SPECIFIC video card manufacturer model that works well with
Myth/Linux please chime in.

2005-07-29 Thread todd bailey

allow me to add my 2 cents.

all of the svga cards out today produce rgb + hv, ie red green blue and
hor and vert sync.
there are companies that have hardware that will take this format and
convert it to component video.

www.videoone.com for example has this hardware.

find a video card chip set that is well supported and buy one of these
converters and you'll be golden

It should. The colors on the back of a TV or even on the back of the
DVD player are Red, Green and blue. All should be well.

http://tinyurl.com/a9jbh shows the cable to be colored R, G, B. Are
you
sure this thing can do YPrPb Component out? I visited the MSI page about
the card, and it doesn't mention anything about the output format. THIS
DRIVES ME CRAZY!!! All manufacturers do this.

Please no responses about transcoders or alternatives. I went through 39

 subject.

I'm looking for a video card or mother board with on-board video
supported
by MythTV that has simple YPrPb component output. I've seen a few cards
from ATI, but I fear Linux support for those. I've also heard of a VIA or
EPIA mother board that some guy was selling (several of), but I thought it
was weird that the only outlet for the unit was an individual's blog.

There has been lots of interest in component out over the past 2 years.
Let's get a definitive answer into the threads, and put this one to rest.

plan on just using the 480i for now, but if I get an HD TV, there ya
 go!
