Re: [mythtv-users] FYI: The Current Zap2it survey/Reqeust.

2005-11-18 Thread Jeff Simpson

I just got an email from Tom at Zap2It, after he found this thread. Apparently they DO have a method
for requesting a time to download the next days programming:

 - Jeff

>From The Email:

Actually, we already did this.  In fact, we've had it from day 1 in
DataDirect.  It's the acknowledge() method in the xtvdService, which
probably no one uses.  Every just uses the download() method.

If you consume the WSDL (see
http://docs.tms.tribune.com/tech/tmsdatadirect/zap2it/tvDataDelivery.wsdl
)
in a tool like XMLSpy, you can send an acknowledge() request and you'll get
back a blockedDownloadTime and a suggestedDownloadTime.  See section 4.2.4
of the Z2LProtocols.pdf document
(http://docs.tms.tribune.com/tech/tmsdatadirect/zap2it/Z2LProtocols.pdf
) for
information on this returned data.

You're welcome to post this information on the Myth mailing lists.

If they are having trouble with everybody hitting their server at the

I think the best course of action as far as myth's role in this is concerned is to pick a method
and incorporate it into the default behavior of myth in the next version. Many people (myself included)
don't change things unless they are broken, so they probably aren't even aware of the need to
reshedule listing downloads, and wouldn't mind changing if it were automatically done the next time
they upgraded.

Unless you're in a dialup situation where you want to avoid

Here's an idea!

Just to over-complicate things, they should have an optional service
that we could add to mythfilldatabase. After completing the daily
download, it makes a request to a server somewhere (maybe zap2it would
want to host it?). The response would be the UTC time that they want
you to get the next daily update. They could keep a running frequency
chart of when they are telling people to download the listings so that
they are evenly spread throughout the day. This would have to be an
optional feature, since some people can't just get the listings at
arbitrary times. I would certainly be onboard for that, if it could be
automated somehow with cron.

Yeah, maybe they are smarter than that.

Is there a way to tell mythtv what time to do the filldatabase operation
when using it's internal scheduler for that and not simply calling the
filldatabase from cron?

In setup... On the same page as:

Automatically run mythfilldatabase
This enables the automatic execution of mythfilldatabase.

and

mythfilldatabase Run Frequency (Days)
The number of days between mythfilldatabase runs.

It's called:

mythfilldatabase Execution Start
This setting and the following one define a time period when the
mythfilldatabase process is allowed to run. For example, setting Start
to 11 and End to 13 would mean that the process would only run between
11 AM and 1 PM.

and

mythfilldatabase Execution End
This setting and the preceding one define a time period when the
mythfilldatabase process is allowed to run. For example, setting Start
to 11 and End to 13 would mean that the process would only run between
11 AM and 1 PM.
