Give that a spin & see how it goes. New URL: www.juski.co.uk FYI 1.5 _should_ have the fixes everybody has suggested so far. There are still a couple of minor issues (like the buttons used in mythvideo's filter screen - they're still blue-ish) but they can wait a little while. Now I *really* need to grab SVN & make the theme work with the new menus, whatever they turn out to be. Apart from the schedule change menu, are there any other additions to SVN, such as official plugins I need to know about? As for a wide version of this theme.. I've been trying to get it to work but I'm finding it hard going - especially w.r.t the aspect ratio of the watermarks & title graphics. In 1280x720 (even if the background is the right size) they appear stretched horizontally by 25%. How does mythtv 'know' the theme is wide? Leave the theme as it is, and just save the user suggestions for version 2 you do some where down the line. In programming, I always try to comply with the user's wishes as much as possible. Sometimes it's painful to let my own ideas go, but usually the result is something much better than I could have envisioned myself. Maybe graphics design is different. And maybe Justin is tired of my suggestions. If that's the case, I understand. But he *did* ask for constructive criticism, and I'm just trying to provide that. Hi Jesse. I took the crit as it was intended :-) I didn't set out to create a finished theme, but that's how it ended up. I started messing around mocking things up after I'd seen GreyFoxx's screenshots. It was a while until I actually started mangling XML files - and _boy_ what a process that is. If I could suggest anything that'd help someone get started in theming I'd say: 1. Use an existing theme to get a feel for the kind of things you can do. 2. Change one thing at a time to make sure you're only changing what you intended to change. 3. Be prepared for lots of opening mythfrontend, and closing mythfrontend ;-) As for my theme, I think it could stand some more tweaks - I noticed some other little things I'd missed that nobody else has picked up on yet. The icons & watermarks will be staying as they are and I'll see about uploading the original files to my webspace. This is starting to look like I need a webpage (and version control!). I'll have a go at converting it to <> but I'm not making any promises. Editing the backgrounds & boxes to fit 1280x720 is one thing - changing the positions of _everything_ at the right hand screen extreme is another. A while ago I saw lots of posts here fawning over the new Apple Frontend thing - people wishing for a theme along the same lines.. maybe I'll get going on that, probably using the 'minimalist' theme as a base. At least the graduated background will just stretch to 1280 ;-) Once again many thanks for looking at this, folks. I'm so glad people like it and that everybody has been so constructive. Although I wouldn't object to even more color, especially in the top bar area. Here are a few suggestions: 1.) Perhaps the color could carry over to the icon in the upper right? 2.) Colorizing the MythTV text might not hurt either, but I wouldn't know what color to make it. 3.) The Information icon could use some color 4.) The Watch Videos icon could use some color 5.) I think the Music icon looks fine, but it's also grayscale. Unless you've got a colorful car audio speaker, I wouldn't really know what color to make it. :) Maybe a wood grain around the speaker? Bugs I noticed in this version: Manage->Upcoming 1.) I see a bar at the top that says: Showing: All Time Conflict I've seen this with other themes too, so I hope it's not my install causing the problem. I don't think Blue is effected though. If anything it would be nice if this space would reflect the actual status of an upcoming recording slot. 2.) While this theme does differentiate colors of programs in the Upcoming menu with these statuses: Previously Recorded (grey ) Earlier Showing (grey ) Recording (red ) Later Showing (white) It seems to lump the following into (yellow): Will Record Conflicting I think Will Record should be green or some other color. 3.) Home->Manage doesn't place the manage icon in the upper right. It keeps the Home icon. I really like this theme! Frankly, I think this is the only theme I might actually use besides Blue. It's sophisticated, high quality, and visually attractive. What's best is that it has a decidedly grown up feel to it. Blue feels a bit too kiddish to me. Infuse it with as much color as possible, and I think you've got a killer theme on your hands.
