the best value for money around here. Seems
 adequate, but you can

I didn't want to invest to much in extra hardware
until I was sure I was able to get MythTV setup, and
that MythTV was stable. With the exception of the
capture card, the other hardware was laying around.

For the past couple of days since I got MythTV setup
things seem stable. If that keeps up I'll go buy a
bigger harddrive =)

Yup, works perfect (see attached)

I would assume that you have followed Jarad Wilson's guide in this matter? One
thing I missed in
his guide at first is a patch you need to apply to /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit.
Without that patch, you
will need to load lirc by hand after every reboot:

$ /sbin/insmod lirc_i2c

Brad,

Why do you need to use both the PVR350 audio output and your sound cards
output? Is that the only
way to hear audio when you are using mplayer, or could you not redirect sound
to the PVR350 sound
out when using mplayer? As you can tell I haven't ventured into playing with
this aspect of MythTV
;-)

Nope. The PVR-350 outputs (TV out /and/ audio out) are *only* used when

When I used my 350, I just fed the audio output of the 350 into the
microphone/line-in input of my sound card, and then the output of the sound
card to the TV. This way it always goes out of the sound card. I just had
to buy a little adapter that takes the two composite cables from the 350 and
converts them into the 1/8 audio plug.

No. The PVR-350 MPEG-2 decoder can *only* output to its own TV out and
audio out. So, you have to do exactly what Brad said he's doing earlier
in the thread--use the PVR-350's and the sound card's audio out. You
plug the PVR-350's audio out into the sound card's line in and record
from the line in.

If I had something better than an old SoundBlaster Live sound card, I
would route my audio as Mike described. However, my sound card only
takes mono input and sounds absolutely terrible. So I simply send
both the PVR-350's audio out and my sound card's audio out to a
hardware mixer which sends both signals to my receiver. I get great
sound out of both and don't worry where the software is routing the
audio.

Hmm... I don't think that is what the problem is because dmesg shows:

bttv: disagrees about version of symbol tveeprom_read
 bttv: Unknown symbol tveeprom_read

I have also e-mailed the ivtv list because I think it may be a
 conflict with the IVTV drivers.

Success!! What I ended up doing is removing the IVTV drivers (via
apt-get remove) and commenting the ivtv stuff out of my modprobe.conf,
then testing it.

My bttv card worked.

I then re-installed the IVTV drivers and it worked again.

Then I added everything back to my modprobe.conf except I commented out
alias tveeprom tveeprom-ivtv

and everything worked!! I probably could have just started out with
commenting out the line, but who knows.

Will commenting out alias tveeprom tveeprom-ivtv hurt me down the road?

No. The tveeprom module is only used to autodetect the card's hardware,
so if autodetection works right, you're good to go. The IvyTV version
of tveeprom was created specifically to deal with all the new hardware
changes--especially those brought about by the introduction of the
PVR-150 and PVR-500 cards. The tveeprom in recent versions of the Linux
kernel has very good support for PVR-250/350's.

I am trying to add an additional software based Hauppauge WinTV card

I have tried both alias char-major-81 bttv and alias

BTW, running /sbin/depmod -a followed by /sbin/modprobe bttv
 yields the following error:

I am pretty new to linux, and was hoping someone could point me in the
right direction on how to get my two cards to play well together.

You should be able to get them both working. I had 2 bttv cards inmy
system until I swapped them for DVB-T cards which is why it's
commeneted out in my modprobe.conf below. I think you may need to add
an option line to tell it which card ID it is and the tuner number to
use - do a search to find those numbers for this card. Hope it
helps...
