Anything specific you're looking for? And "run Nagios on VMWare" in
what way? With the Virt Machines being the client? The server?
Something else?

Throw us a bone, will you?

And since snmpget is -exactly- what I'm using inside the script, you
can indeed easily add these parameters to the command. :)

All sorted.

You know? I think I might put this into my version as well! Could be
handy, really.

Does anyone know if there are any plugins floating around that enable
monitoring of Dell EMC SANS? I have looked everywhere and also tried
some homebrew options but if there is something already out there..

Get your hands on the manual and learn the usage of the yum tool to
install and update packages.

In fact one can even install nagios and update that way without a glitch
if just add the dag wiers repository.

Just add http://hvdkooij.xs4all.nl/linux-server/dag.repo to
/etc/yum.repos.d/ and you are all set if you run RHEL 3 or 4 or one of
their clones.

Re: [Nagios-users] Service definition problem with nagios 2.5

2006-09-29 Thread Thomas Knutson
Actually it had nothing to do with my checkcommands.cfg file, as that was
clearly defined using this syntax

# 'check_nt_disk' command definition
define command{
command_namecheck_nt_disk
command_line$USER1$/check_nt -H $HOSTADDRESS$ -p 1248 -v
USEDDISKSPACE -l $ARG1$ -w $ARG2$ -c $ARG3$
}

The problem was in my syntax in my service.cfg file, and how I was using the
check command. I was trying to call it as follows

check_nt_disk -H $HOSTADDRESS$ -p 1248 -v USEDDISKSPACE -l C -w 95 -c 99

When I should have been calling it like this

check_nt_disk!C!95!99

Thank you for calling me an idiot, and for pointing me in the right direction.

Nagios is telling you what is wrong! Check your checkcommands.cfg os
whatever command.cfg you have with command definitions for your plugins.
I feel stupid telling you what to do, when nagios itself told you
before.

sed be thy friend. I didn't catch the beginning of the discussion, but
if you append
| sed 's/.*STRING: //'

to whatever command you're running it should work pretty ok, although
with decently recent tools you should also be able to pass -Ovq to
snmpget and achieve pretty much the same result with less overhead.

This is odd. Do you have SELinux turned on? If so, turn it off and try
accessing the page through the web again. Try Google or the RedHat user
forums for info on how to do that, cause I have absolutely no idea.

As a side note, I expected you to get errors several times when cd'ing
to the directory, as well as when trying to execute the cgi program.

I'll think I'll try to find a router or firewall in front of it on which
I could do a test that could be a dependency.

Is there plan to correct this?

[Nagios-users] R: Installing problem

2006-09-29 Thread Marco Borsani
Well,

1) On HP-UX nagios is running correctly, all the libraries were installed
before install it.

I am not expert on Linux so I don't understand when you write:
"..but for RedHat you *should* get everything needed by the simple expedient
of

yum install gd-devel"
What do you mean?

2) I performed:
su apache
cd /usr/local/
cd nagios
cd sbin
./status.gci
getcgivars(): Unsupported REQUEST_METHOD -> ''

I'm guessing you're trying to execute the CGI from a command line.
In order to do that, you need to set the REQUEST_METHOD environment
variable to either "GET", "HEAD", or "POST". When using the
GET and HEAD methods, arguments can be passed to the CGI
by setting the "QUERY_STRING" environment variable. If you're
using the POST method, data is read from standard input. Also of
note: if you've enabled authentication in the CGIs, you must set the
"REMOTE_USER" environment variable to be the name of the user you're
"authenticated" as.

What does it mean?

I am sorry, I am working with nagios from 2 year, but I meet these error for
the first time now!

Regards
Marco

You didn't have the proper gd libraries and headers installed at the
time of compiling. I'm not sure where you can find those from HP-UX, but
for RedHat you *should* get everything needed by the simple expedient of

yum install gd-devel

The error message tells you exactly what's going wrong.
"Permission denied: exec of '/usr/local/nagios/sbin/status.cgi' failed"

You need to make sure the user apache is running as can execute the
status.cgi binary. The easiest way to do that is to do like this,
assuming the apache pseudo-user is called "httpd"

su httpd
cd /usr/local
cd nagios
cd sbin
./status.cgi

The reason for doing it in steps is that you likely have not only faulty
permissions on the status.cgi program, but somewhere along the path as
well. Doing it like this will let you see at which points you need to
modify the permissions in order for httpd to be able to execute the
program, so just chmod your way there.

Oh dear, that's a lot of question marks ;-)

To enable command-line arguments in nrpe, you need to compile nrpe with
support for it (./configure --enable-command-arguments or something like
that), and also enable it in the configuration file
(enable_command_arguments=1 or some such).

Check the readme. It has all the info you need.

[Nagios-users] Installing problem

2006-09-29 Thread Marco Borsani

Hi
all

I need to change my
nagios server from an HP-UX to a RedHat.

I install and configure
nagios like always, but at the end of all procedures I see something
strange and Nagios does not run.

1) In the
/usr/local/nagios/sbin directory some files are absent:
histogram.cgi
statusmap.cgi
trends.cgi

2) The web
interface show the error:
The server encountered an internal error or
misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

3) In the
/var/log/httpd/errorlog_log I see:
[Fri Sep 29 15:56:35 2006] [error] [client 151.X.X.X] (13)Permission denied: exec of
'/usr/local/nagios/sbin/status.cgi' failed, referer: http://nagios-cl1.it.net/side.html[Fri Sep 29 15:56:35 2006] [error] [client 151.X.X.X] Premature end of script headers: status.cgi,
referer: http://nagios-cl1.it.net/side.html

This is very strange for
me because this is not the first time that I install Nagios on a
RedHat.
Any
idea?

[Nagios-users] nrpe ping

2006-09-29 Thread Sjaak Nabuurs
Hello

I'm new to this list and I like to ask if somebody knows how to handle this.

I like with nagios check servers from many points in the world.

So I have server1 with nagios running in the Netherlands
I have a servers in the US,Australia, HongKong running nrpe.

I have to check HOST A B C ... every where in the world.

Now I like to check HOST A/B/C from different points if they are UP.

So nagios send to
nrpe USA to ping HOST A and nagios send to nrpe HongKong to ping HOST A
etc..

howto ARG this with nrpe ??

example nrpe.cfg USA
command[check_ping_from_US]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_ping -H
$ARG1$ -w $ARG2$ -c $AGR3$ -p 5

This is not working but ???
Does anybody know a solution for this.

Thanks

Did you try going to nagiosexhange.org and see what they've got? They
probably have exactly what you want, and if not, there are probably
similar plugins to help you develop yours.

[Nagios-users] simple chech using snmp

2006-09-29 Thread Tom Brown
Hi

I have added some things to my snmp config that i would normally use
nrpe for so that i can do a...

snmpwalk host -v 1 -c community OID_string

and get the desired response - does anyone know how i can construct a
plugin that would execute that line and then parse the returned value? I
have tried to deconstruct another snmp plugin but got very confused!

thanks

Since 2.0 (I think), the 'members' line is optional. However, hostgroups
still need to *have* members. The reason the 'members' line is optional
is the introduction of the 'hostgroups' variable in the host object
definition.

So, unless at least one of your hosts have a line saying

"hostgroups your-hostgroup-name"

you *do* need the 'members' line.
