What I mean to say that ,

define host{
use generic-servers
host_name   Example1
alias Example1 - Used for Cookie
address 192.168.1.100
address1 192.168.1.101
}

Is anyway it possible to add multiple address field in the host definition, if
the same server having more than one IP address.

Not with a single host definition; however this can be modeled with 3
host definitions:
* One virtual parent host object that has as a host check ping checks
for both IPs
* One virtual host object that represents NIC1 on the host
* One virtual host object that represents NIC2 on the host

Parent --> A - NIC 1
|
|---> B - NIC 2

The two hosts representing the NICs would have the parent host as
their parent so that if the ping checks fail for the two hosts you
only get notified that the parent host object is down.

If I understand you correctly, you are wanting to assign two IP addresses to
one host name. Which, IIRC, should not be done. Each IP should be assigned
its own hostname.

We use email and SMS to deliver notifications. We do it the cheap way,
which is by using our cell provider's SMS gateway. We're in the

It is often a lot easier to use an email-SMS gateway service rather
than setting up web sms directly. For example I used to use
http://www.intellisms.co.uk/ .

You have to set up your own Nagios notification definitions to format
the email appropriately to the way your chosen email-sms gateway
works. For example to use intellisms they expect the email to have
the login and recipient information in the subject line of the email.
I had something like this:

# 'notify-host-by-sms-IntelliSMS' command definition
define command{
  command_name  notify-host-by-sms-IntelliSMS
  command_line  /usr/bin/printf "%b" "Nagios: Host $NOTIFICATIONTYPE$
$HOSTALIAS$ now $HOSTSTATE$ at $SHORTDATETIME$ Info: $HOSTOUTPUT$" |
/usr/bin/mail -s "Username:yourusername Password:$USER3$
To:$CONTACTPAGER$" send...@messaging.intellisoftware.co.uk
  }

You'll need something similar for the service notification command
definition too.

You need to set up your contact definitions in Nagios to use this
notification command instead of the standard Nagios one and put the
mobile number of the recipient in the pager directive in the contact
definition.

You also need to put the password in the resources.cfg file.

Another option is your mobile phone provider might have their own
email system which allows you to receive emails on your mobile. It
might be more cost effective to use that, although I have found that
with some providers it can be very unreliable.

Jim

Hi all,

as I can see in the logfile the patches are included in version 3.2.1:
Speedup to CGIs when lots of comments or downtimes in status.dat file (Jonathan
Kamens)

I attach the results of "nagios -s nagios.cfg" from unpatched 3.2.0
and 3.2.1 version. I think my monitored hosts and services are few to
see any difference!

When submitting the notification, there is a 'Send Notification' checkbox;

Re: [Nagios-users] check_mem shows : "NRPE: Unable to read output"

2010-03-12 Thread Marquez, Quentin
Hi Jatin,

Don't try to run the sudo command using "root" while its configuration is made
for "nagios" :)

Your issue looks like you can run check_mem.pl as root and get a reply locally,
but nrpe is owned by user "nagios", and user "nagios" won't run this plugin
correctly.

To allow the nagios user to run check_mem.pl as root, you have to configure a
sudo command.

Make sure your check_mem.pl is owned by user "nagios", configure your sudo
command via "visudo", and then run this sudo command as the "nagios" user.

As root, you could try : su - nagios -c "/usr/bin/sudo
/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_mem.pl -w 10 -c 5"

Or just wait to see the result on your nagios server.

Cheers,
Quentin

Re: [Nagios-users] check_mem shows : "NRPE: Unable to read output"

2010-03-12 Thread Marquez, Quentin
Jatin,

Here is how I use it with sudo :

In my nrpe.cfg :
command[check_mem]=/usr/bin/sudo
/usr/local/nagios-plugins/current/libexec/check_mem.pl -w 10 -c 5

visudo :
User_Alias  SU_TO_NAGIOS_PLUGINS_USER = nagios
Cmnd_Alias  SU_TO_NAGIOS_PLUGINS =
/usr/local/nagios-plugins/current/libexec/check_mem.pl -w 10 -c 5
SU_TO_NAGIOS_PLUGINS_USER ALL = NOPASSWD: SU_TO_NAGIOS_PLUGINS

Root permissions will allow nagios to read memory attributes.

Subject: [Nagios-users] check_mem shows : "NRPE: Unable to read output"

Hi

I had downloaded the perl file for check_mem plugin and copied in the
libexec folder of the target machine that needs to be monitored. On the
localhost it returns correct values but when i shoot the command from
the nagios server using NRPE i am getting the following :

NRPE: Unable to read output

Is it an issue with NRPE or check_mem plugin.

The output for check_mem on the localhost is :

CRITICAL: Memory Usage (W> 5, C> 6): 30% Swap Usage (W> 5, C> 6):

1%|MemUsed=30%;5;6 SwapUsed=1%;5;6

I have defined the command also in the nrpe.cfg file. All other commands

work fine except for the check_mem plugin.

Please let me know what to do next.

Thanks
Jatin

Title: Re[2]: [Nagios-users] Nagios & Avaya

Hi all,

did anyone find any scripts that can poll Avaya equipment?!

I agree completely and will do that if necessary, but where I possible, I prefer not to re-invent the wheel. Seeing nothing on NagiosExchange or the first page of a Google search, I thought I'd poll the list.

I was actually really surprised to see absolutely nothing from Google searches and my conspiracy theory mind thought there might be a reason why (Avaya claiming IP on their MIBs/OIDs and take down notices for using them in Nagios add-ons?), but I digress...

If I get nothing, I guess I'll just start working on my own...

Andrew, does snmpwalk against the switches give back any useful information?  Rather than searching for something that may not exist, by way of canned solutions, you may get off the ground faster to just query the OID(s) you want.

We have recently had a new Avaya VOIP system installed, including eXtreme switches. The NagiosExchange site has at least one SNMP addon for the eXtreme switches... however searching for "avaya", "lucent", "definity", and "audix" all reveal zero hits. I understand that Avaya has their s/w that is somewhat in competition with Nagios, but I can't imagine that no one is polling the Avaya equipment outside of Avaya's own s/w. Is anyone out there querying new'ish Avaya VOIP phone switches, add-on cards, and/or Modular Messaging environments? I'm interested in info (other URL's if needed), existing scripts, howto's, etc... pretty much anything as I'm seeing nothing right now.

It should be, but I don't think it is! If it were you would find it
documented at http://nagios.sourceforge.net/docs/3_0/objectdefinitions.html#host
(for host notifications).
