[Nagios-users] Exchange 2003 MIBs

2009-03-03 Thread Eric Chatham
Greetings!

Does anyone know where I can find MIB sheets for Exchange 2003? We would like
to monitor things like "inforomation store" and such in Nagios.

Thank you.

[Nagios-users] Having difficulty installing Nagiosgraph

2009-03-12 Thread Eric Chatham
Hello all,

I'm having a hard making the graphs work. I'm running CentOS 5.1 (RHEL 5.1).
I'm successfully running Nagios version 3.0.6 on this system. I'm having
problems with getting Nagiosgraph to work. One, here is the output of my
webpage:

http://server.net/nagiosgraph/cgi/show.cgi?host=reach_media&service=PING

Nagiosgraph has detected an error in the configuration file:
/etc/nagios/nagiosgraph/nagiosgraph.conf.
/usr/local/nagios/nagiosgraph/rrd is empty

Next, here is my /var/log/nagiosgraph.log:

Thu Mar 12 13:59:11 2009 insert.pl warn - perfdata not recognized:
date||host||desc||out||data for:
servicedescr: UPTIME
output: OK - System uptime is 4 days, 10:59:15.53.
perfdata:

output: PING OK - Packet loss = 0%, RTA = 0.08 ms

When I try to run insert.pl manually, I get this error:

perl /usr/lib/nagios/insert.pl
readline() on closed filehandle FH at /etc/nagios/nagiosgraph/ngshared.pm line
989.

I have RRD installed; I also use Smokeping on this server. Please assist.

I should also mention that after I typed up my message, I saw CentOS platform
notes in the INSTALL file. I completed those steps. Now, when I try to access
the serviceextinfo link, I get red "X"s where the graphs should be. Hmmm. It
has the server listed as "" on the webpage also.

I figured it out; I don't know though how I did it. Maybe it was just waiting
for the next service check interval for it to refresh. The webpage has a
drop-down with a list of hosts and services being monitored. And, the graphs
display nicely.

Ok, I take that back. :/ :/

All the graphs show that it polled for a short time. Now, there is no line on
any of the graphs past a certain point.

[Nagios-users] Empty Graphs

2009-03-13 Thread Eric Chatham
Hello,

Can someone help me with this? None of my graphs have any information being
displayed in them. I've tried re-reading the INSTALL instructions thinking I
may've missed a step. It all seems to check out. What information do you need
from me. I tried setting the debug level to (4) and insert_debug to 4 but
nothing shows up in the log with any INSERT information. Please help. Thanks.
Just an FYI, I'm a really new to PERL and Linux altogether.

So exactly what are you using for graphing? Nagios by default doesn't do any
sort of graphing by itself.

[Nagios-users] NAGIOSGRAPH not graphing

2009-03-19 Thread Eric Chatham
Please, can someone help me with this? I installed Nagios 3.0 and Nagiosgraph
on a server with CentOS 5.1 i386 version installed. I am the point now trying
to get the graphs to poll PING data. There is nothing on the graphs. What is
wrong? I double checked the installation (which I followed the INSTALL
instructions that came with the package). I still can't find the problem.
Please, help.

The graph "template" displays on the page. That's it though. There is no data
displaying. According to the last modified date in "reach_media," the graph
was last updated on the 12th, the day I installed the program. Shouldn't the
last modified date be now, since the graph continually is updated by insert.pl?

Have you checked out the logs? Is there anything in them?

Have you tried running the insert command manually to see what happens?

Is it creating RRD files where it's supposed to? Is there data in them?

Re: [Nagios-users] NAGIOSGRAPH not graphing

2009-03-20 Thread Eric Chatham
I don't want to be a pest about this; I'm pulling teeth trying to get this to
work. Does anyone have a clue how to get this working? I went out and bought
the "Nagios, System and Network Monitoring" book by "Wolfgang Barth" last night
for a reference. Chapter 19 talks about Nagiosgraph. After reading through
the first few sections showing you how to set up Nagiosgraph, it looks almost
identical to the INSTALL instructions that comes with the Nagsiosgraph package.

After looking at the graphs again this morning, it looks like some of the hosts
(like PING) had data on the graphs for a short period of time last night and,
then, nothing again. What is going on? What am I missing? Why did it work
for a short period of time and, then, not?

Hi Patrick,

Here are my answers. I hope they give some insight as to the problem. Thank
you.

Here is a sample of my /var/log/nagiosgraph.log file. I had the debugging
level at (4). I don't see any INSERT into information though:

Thu Mar 19 13:34:42 2009 insert.pl warn - perfdata not recognized:

The graph "template" displays on the page. That's it though. There is no data

was last updated on the 12th, the day I installed the program. Shouldn't the
last modified date be now, since the graph continually is updated by insert.pl?

Thank you for the reply. I ended up re-installing the plugins. It seemed to
fix the problem. I just found it rather strange that all of sudden the plugin
stopped responding.

...and, changing the community string as well.

Maybe someone made a firewall change, between your Nagios box and the target
host?

Also, just a security-minded suggestion, you should probably change the
community strings.

SNMP - "Security? Not My Problem." :)

This seems to be the only fix that is working right now. I still don't know
why the graphs don't poll any data "like they should." I have to setup a 5 min

I've done that too - with and without the perfdata in the command. I also
noticed that when I updated a host today, the graphs all had data for an
instance and, then, nothing. Unfortunately, I'm rather new to Linux and know
nothing of perl and how this is constructed. I've looked at the guts of this
program over and over again to find my own f*** ups.

If I just run the insert.pl without the perfdata, I get the concatenation
errors (probably since it's looking for the parameters like the one listed in
commands.cfg - as in command_line of process-service-perfdata). The perfdata
file also gets wiped out if I run insert.pl naked. I have to restart Nagios to
renew the perfdata file:

When I include the parameters for insert.pl, I get the output below.

/usr/bin/perl /usr/local/lib/Nagios/insert.pl "1237580865 || reach_media ||
PING || 4.062 || 0.067 || PING OK - Packet loss = 0%, RTA = 46.26 ms"

[Nagios-users] New to Nagios - Need help with nagios.cfg

2009-02-16 Thread Eric Chatham
Hello,

I'm very new to Nagios. I'm running version Nagios 3.0.6 on CentOS RHEL 5.1. I
used the FC6 instructions for my installation. I've successfully installed the
program per the Quick-start guide provided on the Website. We presently have
another server with an older version of Nagios installed. It's using
"cfg_dir=/opt/nagios/etc" as its location for all *.cfg giles.

Here's a problem: When I try to create an alternate directory (cfg_dir) in the
nagios config file, I keep getting a CONFIG ERROR when I try to restart the
service. I would like to use "cfg_dir=/opt/nagios/etc/main" to hold all the
config files. Here is a list of that directory right now:

[root@ ~ main]# ls -l

[root@ ~ main]# service nagios restart
Running configuration check... CONFIG ERROR! Restart aborted. Check your
Nagios configuration.

I've hashed out all the other cfg in nagios.cfg to only use this directory.

[root@ ~ main]# grep cfg_ /usr/local/nagios/etc/nagios.cfg

Seems like one of the config files probably has an error in it. Run '/
path/to/nagios -v /path/to/nagios.cfg'.

That means you have an other file in which the command "notify-host-by-email"
is also defined. grep the command's name to find where. You will probably have
the same problem for the "notify-service-by-email".

I had the same problem when I installed NagiosQL and I solved it by setting
Nagios to use only the commands defined by NagiosQL.

Look in nagios.cfg for cfg_dir and cfg_file directives. These files in
main/ apparently do not represent all the config files you've told
nagios to use. You do have the command defined twice somewhere.

Ok, I'll look that up for you. You owe me a local beer though.

http://nagios.sourceforge.net/docs/3_0/configmain.html

Object Configuration Directory

Format: cfg_dir=
Example:cfg_dir=/usr/local/nagios/etc/commands
cfg_dir=/usr/local/nagios/etc/services
cfg_dir=/usr/local/nagios/etc/hosts

This directive is used to specify a directory which contains object
configuration files that Nagios should use for monitoring. All files
in the directory with a .cfg extension are processed as object config
files. Additionally, Nagios will recursively process all config files
in subdirectories of the directory you specify here. You can seperate
your configuration files into different directories and specify
multiple cfg_dir= statements to have all config files in each
directory processed.

It seems that your perl installation is missing the RRD.pm module .
check the CPAN site and install the module for the RRD .

You need to configure INC to include RRDs.pm. You can do this by
either setting environment variable
PERL5LIB=/usr/local/rrdtool-1.3.6/lib/perl/5.8.8/i386-linux-thread-multi/
or by copying RRDs.pm to one of the directories listed in INC.

[Nagios-users] Problems with check_snmp add-on

2009-02-26 Thread Eric Chatham
Hello,

I am trying to run the check_snmp add-on to retrieve the product name of an
Adtran. I have the community string and the MIBs loaded. When I run the
following command, I get "No data received from host." What am I doing wrong?
Thank you for your assistance.

[root@ ~ libexec]# snmptranslate -m +ADTRAN-MIB -IR -On adProdName
.1.3.6.1.4.1.664.3.1.1
[r...@~ libexec]# ./check_snmp -H -C -o

CMD: /usr/local/bin/snmpget -t 1 -r 5 -m '' -v 1 [authpriv]

What happens when you run snmpget manually? Does it return the value expected?

When I add the service into Nagios, I keep getting "check_snmp: Invalid
critical threshold - ifOperStatus.1"

When I run the "check_snmp" plugin, I don't have any problems.

[root@ ~ libexec]# ./check_snmp -H -C -o
ifOperStatus.1 -c 1:1
SNMP CRITICAL - *2* | IF-MIB::ifOperStatus.1=2
[root@ ~ libexec]#

Why won't it work on the Nagios webpage?

I took an ethereal capture as well. After looking at it, it looks like the
destination host may not be accepting SNMP traffic. Is UDP 161 default for
SNMP?

[root@ ~ libexec]# tethereal ip host

What happens when you run snmpget manually? Does it return the value expected?

Thanks, guys. :)

I see my mistake. I had the host IP listed twice.

$ARG1$ =
$ARG2$ =
$ARG3$ = ifOperStatus.1
$ARG4$ = 1:1

Your command_line therefor looks like

/path/to/plugins/check_snmp -H -C -o -c ifOperStatus.1

Looks different.
