AND Service check command 'check_nt' specified in service 'check_nt_process' for host 'Exchange-Server' not defined anywhere! Odd, considering the the following checkcommands.cfg settings should work fine. $USER1$/check_nt -H $HOSTADDRESS$ -s password -p 12489 -v PROCSTATE -l $ARG1$ AND $USER1$/check_bl -H $HOSTADDRESS$ -B zen.spamhaus.org bl.spamcop.net dnsbl.ahbl.org dnsbl.njabl.org dnsbl.sorbs.net virbl.dnsbl.bit.nl rbl.efnet.org phishing.rbl.msrbl.net Both of these work from the command line, and again, they are defined *exactly* the same way I have had working on the regular cfg files (before I used the NagiosQL front end). All is well for all of them (running just about every firewall imaginable, but mostly Cisco PIX), except for this Watchguard SOHO. My friend said that he was experiencing problems with what he expected was his firewall (Exchange queues and netstat showed nothing wrong), and I suggested that he run Kiwisyslogger on the Exchange box to have it view in real time what was going on. He called me back and said that there were all sorts of bad packet errors from my Nagios host. e.g. 2007-08-03 09:58:21 Local0.Warning 192.168.1.254 IP: Packet discarded from x.y.z.34 port 46302 to a.b.c.234 port 25 (TCP)(incorrect state) @2007-08-03-10:58:28 I had him send me the syslog dump, and shortly after I killed Nagios, mail started coming in ok and hasn't missed a beat. In some way, shape, or form, Nagios is not alerting me about down hosts. [Nagios-users] question on nagios-rrdtool-cacti process
I'm trying to wrap my mind around how Nagios and Cacti integrate (or, more specifically, how I can pipe Nagios output to rrdtool and then have Cacti poll that rrd database). Both Nagios and Cacti are installed ok, and now I'm trying to get n2rrd properly installed and gluing together the two programs. I've (I think) followed all of these instructions ok http://n2rrd.diglinks.com/cgi-bin/trac.cgi/wiki/InstallationGuide --n2rrd is unpacked to /etc/n2rrd ok --nagios cfg files are edited properly --made a /path/to/templates/service.t file (icmp.t to be exact) --can reload nagios ok (with no errors) ...but now what? I don't see any nagios logs being generated (step 14 of the HOWTO URL), and I'm not sure where exactly these get generated (or how to tell). I'm assuming that nrd2graph doesn't have to be installed b/c that is what Cacti will properly take care of? Any help would be greatly appreciated. - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. Re: [Nagios-users] using Nagios to detect rogue DHCP servers?
requires a whole new plugin written from scratch, I haven't seen a tcpdump like plugin. Therefore much more difficult and more time required, as well as more computationally intensive to watch all traffic for another dhcpoffer, when actually you'll get the same result. What about writing a custom plugin that uses this GPL prog to return the warning/critical/ok/pending values? https://roguedetect.bountysource.com/ From the website: Rogue Detect sends DHCPDISCOVER packets to the network and listens for DHCPservers to respond and checks responses against authorized dhcp servers. Itâs written in Perl. By default it supports sending reports to syslog, email, standard out or a customer script of your chosing. Each reporting method has itâs own independent reporting level. Their wiki is here: https://roguedetect.bountysource.com/wiki notes at the bottom of the wiki: Sending a DHCPDISCOVER packet causes any DHCPSERVERS listning to allocate an IP address for a few seconds, while they wait for the detector to ACKtheir offer. Since we never do send an ACK, the IP is not allocated to us. Hence, it should be ok to run this on the network.. but do so at your OWN RISK!! This package is nice in that you do not have to have a clear view of the network to run it (ie, it works behind a switch). You DO have to be within broadcast range, which usually means on the same subnet as the DHCP server. In some cases scaning port 68 (67?) on every machine may be the better answer to finding dhcp servers, but with this program, as apposed to a passive one like snort, you do not have to be able to see traffic not destined for you. - This SF.net email is sponsored by DB2 Express Download DB2 Express C - the FREE version of DB2 express and take control of your XML.
