Re: Tools and procedure for Network testing

2021-08-26 Thread Humberto Galiza
Sorry if you thought so Etienne, but I didn't mean to 'suggest' it as
a second-class/second option solution (please note I only mentioned
cost and open source as the factors; I'm sure there are much more to
evaluate!). I just put the options on the table willing to help him to
see what's available out there. It is up to him now to pick X, Y, or
go with ping -i.

This list is really become more and more sensitive these days :p

Re: Tools and procedure for Network testing

2021-08-26 Thread Humberto Galiza
I've used Ixia for similar purposes (nothing related to voip stuff
though), but as others already said equipment cost is a factor here.
If the budget is short or if you're willing to go with an open source
suite for testing, you might want to have a look at Pktgen-DPDK too:
https://github.com/pktgen/Pktgen-DPDK
There are tons of tutorials out there explaining how to use Linux +
pktgen-dpdk to generate traffic. I hope it helps.

Cheers!

Outbound Route Filtering (ORF) vendor support

2021-08-18 Thread Humberto Galiza
Hi,

Is anyone aware of any vendor that supports Outbound Route Filtering
(ORF) based on anything other than prefix-lists?

I found these two old IETF drafts (both expired :-/) which supported
the idea of filtering based on community and as-path respectively, but
I wasn't able to understand if they were ever discussed at the WG and
if there was any outcome of the discussion (I suspect the authors are
no longer even working with the mentioned companies in the drafts):

- https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/draft-ietf-idr-aspath-orf-13

Any info is very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Re: Oi Assistance

2014-09-25 Thread Humberto Galiza
Brian,

I´m not an AS7738 customer neither a member, but perhaps I can get
some information/help from a friend who works there. What kind of
information/assistance are you looking for?

FYI, most of folks whose aren´t AS7738 customer, experience bad/long
time to get technical assistance or response; it´s not just you :)

 Hi NANOG,
I'm hoping someone out there has had some experience with Oi
Telecommunications. We've been struggling to work with them to get a couple
of circuits in Sao Paulo live. The primary problem is mostly a language
barrier. Is anyone aware of an English speaking NOC email address or phone
number for Oi? After months of back and forth through a third party
translator working with our account team, I've reached my limit and am hoping
there's another option to get some technical assistance with the BGP
configuration of these two circuits. Any advice will be appreciated.

 Thanks,
 Brian

Re: Strange entries from AS1 in global table

2013-08-08 Thread Humberto Galiza
Looking at our routers I can see this:
3549 3356 26114 1 i
12956 1239 23520 23383 1 ?

but neither 26114 or 23383 are Brazilian ISP´s. Anyway, I guess it´s
probably leaked routes or even use of AS 1 as private one (I don´t
think level3 guys are using this AS anymore...).

2013/8/4 Anurag Bhatia m...@anuragbhatia.com:
 Hello everyone

I was looking at global IPv4 table and saw some strange entries from AS1.
As per ARIN whois AS1 seems to be with Level3 but I noticed few prefixes of
 Brazil based ISP - Netvip

 http://bgp.he.net/AS1#_prefixes

Looking at any prefix in detail, it seems like there are multiple ASNs
 announcing same prefix.

 E.g 177.185.96.0/24 - is being announced by AS1 as well as AS52931
(Netvip's allocated ASN). Same is true with 177.185.98.0/24,
 177.185.98.0/24and so on.
 http://bgp.he.net/net/177.185.96.0/24

So seems like AS1 acting like a mirror for all announcements of AS52931. To
see who exactly gave transit to AS1 by Netvip in Brazil, I checked Oregon
 and noticed these routes:

 3356 3549 16735 52931 1 i

Seems like AS52931 itself is acting as transit for AS1 (and AS16735 which
seems like a backbone ISP in Brazil) is not filtering these routes further
 passing to Level3 (AS3549+AS3356).

I am curious to know what could be possible reason for an ASN like AS1
acting in exact mirror of AS52931? Could it be a case of internal use of
AS1 (assuming it to be private ASN)? May be it's a case of leaked internal
 routes?

 Appreciate your time answer.

 Thanks.
