RE: [neonixie-l] Loose tube
If the tube in question is a Nixie, however, the clear glass in front of the digits may get fouled by the drying glue. Cyanoacrylate has the nasty habit of occasionally evaporating and locally re-depositing on nearby surfaces, leaving a white, powdery coating that is hard to remove. Structurally, its strength is superb (albeit brittle). In final evaluation, I would go with the epoxy over a cyanoacrylate formulation, it's a nixie. I agree that superglue is a good (and fast) choice for any other tube class where cosmetics don't matter. -Original Message- From: chuck richards [mailto:chuc...@all2easy.net] Sent: Saturday, November 13, 2010 2:53 PM To: ulba...@gmail.com; neonixie-l@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: [neonixie-l] Loose tube I have used superglue (cyanoacrylate) to fix several situations such as that. I would think that maybe a small shield made of paper, taped on to the tube might help keep the front free of the fouling glue vapor. Tape it on, glue the tube base, then peel the shield off. Re: [neonixie-l] Loose tube
Super glue or epoxy causing a crack if the tube expands more than the base Exactly why I initially suggested Sylgard-184. It has a very high elastic modulus and will not crack anything, even with extreme temperature cycling. As a potting compound, it was designed to be compatible with all conventional materials that might be found in an electronic / vacuum tube assembly. With some searching it is available in smaller two-part 100ml containers, which is not so expensive at the larger jugs. [neonixie-l] Re: Nixie Tube History - help needed
As a complete and utter novice reading this thread; there is some seriously great knowledge, and true expert opinion bouncing back and forth. As a group, can we not overcome the he-said-she-said differences and capture this to Wikipedia? From the perspective of a novice, Wikipedia's voice speaks loudest. Can we make it speak the truth? If there are differing opinions can we document them on Wikipedia something like; Some think A, others think B? From my perspective, knowing nothing. I want to read it all.
