The Google Drive folder needs to have the "sync" and "syncRoot" properties
set to "true" to enable actual synchronizing downloads. Otherwise you get
"Provided id is not a sync root directory" errors and you can't sync.

I was able to download the whole thing (but not in sync mode, so it isn't
updatable via sync and the file timestamps are the downloaded time instead
of the real times. If you're allergic to Google Drive or want faster
service, take a look at http://www3.ispnet.net/NEONIXIE-L/ - comments
welcome. If we get sync enabled, I'll add a banner saying "This is a mirror
of the official data located at X, local copy last updated Y" and so on.

Here's some blueskying...

Let's get our goals and minimum requirements worked out in so many words first
(I'd prefer an outline). After we settle on the "what" we can haggle about
"how". Afterwards, hashing out the details may require a separate, special
group reporting back to this main group on a regular basis (anyone interested
would be welcome to lurk). A committee, if you will. Maybe.

I want to hear as much info from knowledgeable group members as possible. I
certainly don't have the ability to see all of the possible angles and and I'm
not at all sure about the best way to maintain and host the files aside from
being extremely leery of depending on anything "free" as a long-term solution.
I've seen what can go wrong too many times before.

Then there's the NixieBase project which is still in its daydream phase. It has
so many potential facets to it that it could easily require a small forum for
organizational and support purposes. I agree with others that KISS is
preferable but it should be done right the first time. That's another topic
entirely so I request that any further discussion about NB be done in a new
thread. Let's stick to the topic in this one.

Just my $0.02 based on decades of sometimes really bad experiences online.

I could host a few GB easily on a fast Linux server with decent Comms.

Could also keep it in sync with others automatically.

This echoes my philosophy - my DropBox is ephemeral - when I'm gone (btw
nothing planned) the box will disappear. That is why encourage everyone
to keep their own copies. But then we also need a document repository
(or several repositories) someone that people can use to retrieve
documents. I doesn't hurt to use Google as one of the repositories to
start and then have copies.

Just my 6 pennies worth.

Google does tend to apparently randomly decide that some "products"
(if you're not paying for it, you ARE the product!) are no longer
relevant and kills them off or lets them rot from semi-benign neglect.

I'd rather not find out that features we rely on for a group library
have either turned into a paid service or are going away with little
to no notice.

I think that something like the multiple distribution mirrors as used
(for example) for FreeBSD would be a better idea. I'll volunteer to
host the first site if desired - I have a nice system with a 10GbE
connection to the Internet backbone.

Saved searches are fine. Notifications on saved searches are pretty worthless.
You have to be on eBay just after something is posted to stand any chance of
getting something like this.

Bill - you need to thank Martin as he put all the effort into scanning
the book, cleaning the images and creating the PDF. My "work" was about
10 seconds copying it to my dropbox.
