Testing FTP based projects during NetCAT

2018-10-30 Thread michal
I know it's all over bar the shouting, but maybe next time (during next testing
phase) some people may find this one useful:

https://github.com/mkowsiak/FTPDocker

Heavily improved, supports no ssl, explicit ssl, implicit ssl. Works fine with
PHP Remote Server based projects ;)

Updated info here, as well:

http://www.owsiak.org/netcat-testing-ftp-connections/

Cheers

Re: Building Netbeans

2018-10-30 Thread Geertjan Wielenga
I see. Sure, you can use NetBeans IDE 8.2 to build Apache NetBeans.

But you can also see that there are two columns on the page you're
referring to: "Without NetBeans" and "With NetBeans".

I would recommend you simply use the command line, i.e., the "Without
NetBeans" column, i.e., as described in the README too:

Re: Building Netbeans

2018-10-30 Thread joe schmo
I was given the following link for instructions on how to build NetBeans
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/NETBEANS/Development+Environment

That
link gives you a list of Pre-Requisites , including a link to the version of
Java to use and a link to the version of NetBeans to use, the link to NetBeans
is this https://netbeans.org/downloads/. Maybe the info is outdated? Can I
use Apache NetBeans 10.0?

I would not be opposed to that. The quarterly release proposal has not
formally been adopted, i.e., it's been proposed and we're going along with
it until we feel that maybe it's the wrong direction -- and three times a
year could be good too.

The branch for the 10.0 release is "release100", which I'm sure by now

Re: NetCAT 10.0 evaluation

2018-10-30 Thread Jiří Kovalský

Hi Geertjan,

nice post-mortem summary. My rough comments:

1. The proposal represents very minimalistic version of NetCAT, which
however in the past used to be a platform with a defined start and end
dates, where people gathered around particular features, distributed
work, reviewed test specs for accuracy (updated old ones or created
brand new ones) and then started testing daily builds, discussed their
findings, filed issues, reviewed tutorials, participated in surveys.
Activity of individual participants was tracked and evaluated at the end
and best participants were rewarded for their activity and contribution
and then everyone had time to catch up with other things/projects/life
so from that point of view I can't predict if and how same people will
keep contributing in the long term.

2. I agree we need to invite volunteers and immediately start finding
tribe leaders and then utilize them. Not doing this for NetCAT 10.0 was
a big mistake. Typically these should be the best performers from
previous runs.

3. Identified blockers need constant attention. Testing stuff is only a
step A. Step B (fixing bugs) is equally if not more important.

4. Wasn't there a discussion about only 3 releases per calendar year?
This would lower the rush and increase quality IMO.

Yes, the test run is still open until 10/31 COB so anyone who didn't
complete their test assignments please do so in the remaining time. We
still need:

Debugger - Breakpoints - 67.8% completed only
Profiler Test Specification (embedded_profiling)
Profiler Test Specification (sql_profiling)
Form Editor - Gaps Visualization Test Specification
Form Editor - Grid Bag Customizer Test Specification
[VCS] CVS
[API Support] Projects Wizard
[API Support] Separate Cache Directory
PHP Continuous Integration
Java Code Completion - 55.2% completed only
[VCS] Subversion - 27.9% completed only
Profiler Test Specification (ide_profiling) - 25% completed only
Form Editor - Internationalization
[VCS] Subversion - 58.8% completed only
Profiler Test Specification (heapwalker) - 25% completed only
Profiler Test Specification (sql_profiling)
Form Refactoring Test Specification

We are now at 82% while during NetCAT 9.0 we were able to test 88% of
the features. Can we get anywhere near that?

Re: blocking issues

2018-10-30 Thread Aldo Brucale
Thank you Gertjan. Java 11 has some rendering problems on Ubuntu, so I've
been using JDK 10 (except when I followed the NetCAT test specs). Maybe
using Java 8 makes more sense, being a LTS release.

NetCAT 10.0 evaluation

2018-10-30 Thread Geertjan Wielenga
Hi all,

For me, this was the first NetCAT process, we're trying to wrap it up now
and tomorrow -- so please do one or two more if you can find the time, just
send a mail and say which one you'd like to do -- and for me it was the
first time to take part at all.

I have put some thoughts here:

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/NETBEANS/NetCAT+10.0+Evaluation

Others, feel free to add your thoughts and evaluations, or reply in this
thread with them, and thanks for your enthusiasm and great job, I think,
for how much we've done in so short a time.

Gj

Re: blocking issues

2018-10-30 Thread Geertjan Wielenga
Hi Aldo,

You'll have noticed I've taken a brief look at all the issues you reference
here.

I believe you're using JDK 11 throughout -- once we have 10.0-vc2, it would
be good if you'd try to reproduce all of them again and, then, try to
reproduce all of them with JDK 8 instead of JDK 11, in order to establish
whether the problems have something to do with the JDK, with NetBeans, or
with the combination of JDK and NetBeans.

Thanks,

Gj

It should be over, but there's quite some test specs that have not been done
yet -- so we're extending it a little bit before doing the acceptance survey.

Especially these AFAIK, so if anyone wants to take one or two more, just say so:

Form Editor - Gaps Visualization Test Specification Form Refactoring Test
Specification Form Editor - Grid Bag Customizer Test Specification Form Editor
- Internationalization Maven Support Test Specification - Maven Platform
support PHP Continuous Integration Profiler Test Specification
(embedded_profiling) Profiler Test Specification (sql_profiling) [API Support]
Projects Wizard [API Support] Separate Cache Directory [VCS] Mercurial (only
84,6% now) [VCS] Subversion (only 58,8% now)
