Maven remote index problems

2020-04-09 Thread Luca Mambretti
Hi everyone,

I've found what In my opinion might be a pretty serious issue with maven remote
repository indexing, I've opened it here: [
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-4134 |
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-4134 ]

by running a quick search [
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-1268?jql=project%20%3D%20NETBEANS%20AND%20status%20in%20(Open%2C%20%22In%20Progress%22%2C%20Reopened)%20AND%20text%20~%20%22maven%20index%22
 |
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-1268?jql=project%20%3D%20NETBEANS%20AND%20status%20in%20(Open%2C%20%22In%20Progress%22%2C%20Reopened)%20AND%20text%20~%20%22maven%20index%22
] it appears there are quite a lot of index related issues, some might be
duplicates, I'll try to flag the ones I really think are duplicates.

It does not block anything critical to developing, but it quickly gets annoying
since you constantly find the IDE to be missing on updated info from remote
repositories.

Has anyone else been experiencing this kind of issues in beta 2??

Cheers,
Luca.

Re: NetCAT test specs for 12.0

2020-02-02 Thread Luca Mambretti
Hi,

It might be a little selfish for me to say, but are there any news/plans
regarding the JIRA integration, I'd be willing to setup and run a test
specification for that since it's one of the most useful features for me and
it's currently broken with no documented workaround in all versions.

Cheers,
Luca

Oggetto: NetCAT test specs for 12.0

Hi all,

Thinking ahead a bit, as soon as 11.3 is out, we should be evaluating the
test specs so we can start NetCAT so we can start that a month later when
the first beta is available when the merge window closes.

Now -- the question of the moment is: which areas of NetBeans do we want to
prioritize for NetCAT, especially which have not been tested before that we
now find important (e.g., Gradle) and are essentially new kids on the block.

Here is my (and Neil's) proposal for what we should be focusing on (and
what we should not be focusing on for NetCAT 12.0).

Focus areas (in alphabetical order):

1. Gradle
2. Jakarta EE (including Payara)
3. Java Editor -- new language features for JDK 11+ in particular
4. PHP Editor -- focus on the newest PHP language features
5. Maven
6. Ergonomics/enablement of features (issues with being behind proxy, etc)

Things to deprioritize (this time around and remember we can't do
everything and if you disagree please speak up and pick up the specs),
i.e., things that haven't changed:

1. Form Editor (i.e., GUI Builder, Matisse)
2. Ant-based anything
3. Subversion, CVS, i.e., anything not Git

Anyway, that's a starting point for discussion, also see this updated
schedule:

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/NETBEANS/Release+Schedule

Thanks,

Gj and Neil

Re: Beta 3 installers : Re: Apache NetBeans 11.1-beta3 Is Available for Testing!

2019-07-05 Thread Luca Mambretti
I've been able to install beta 3 using the win installer with no problemas.

Unfortunately the JIRA plugin is still a NOGO, that's a shame for me cause I
use that quite a lot, has anyone been able to find a workaround??

Excellent. Installs on my Mac without any problems and start up is perfect

Re: Apache NetBeans 11.1-beta2 Is Available for Testing!

2019-06-27 Thread Luca Mambretti
I've opened NETBEANS-2762

No idea how I could have missed this until now but I've looked back and it's
like this even in 9.0, probably for cycles are not my thing anymore or
something in my environment is messing this up.

If anyone can give this a try just to confirm it's not only me.

Oggetto: Apache NetBeans 11.1-beta2 Is Available for Testing!

Dear Community,

I'd like to announce that the second beta build for Apache NetBeans
11.1 from the release111 branch is available for download.

Key changes since beta1 include integration of Java EE 8 and Payara
support via agreed feature freeze bypass - testing in these areas
would be very appreciated. Full details of changes between beta1 and
beta2 are at https://github.com/apache/netbeans/pull/1330

As this build is for testing purposes only, we are not going to do the
release dance and voting around it (and as we're not voting on it, the
files are tagged beta not vc!).

As per the recently agreed release schedule, NB 11.1 is a non-LTS
release, and will not have a full NetCAT process. However, feedback
and testing from those on the dev@ and netcat@ lists would still be
appreciated, particularly around new features. Please file issues in
JIRA as necessary, with the affects and fix versions set to 11.1.

Another beta will be released, as required, on July ~3rd. The final
NB 11.1 release is scheduled for July ~15th.

The next full NetCAT is scheduled for NB 12.0 in early 2020, which
will be the next LTS release.

Re: Apache NetBeans 11.1-beta1 Is Available for Testing!

2019-06-18 Thread Luca Mambretti
Hi everyone,

I've downloaded the beta to give it a shot and immediately faced an issue,
probably not blocking but still annoying at least for me, while installing the
JIRA support I got the attached error, it seems to me that a required component
that was hosted on an external maven repository is no longer accessible due to
invalid/incomplete certificates.

It would be nice if JIRA support was bundled like BugZilla with no need to
download it separately, since apache itself actually runs on JIRA (I'm not sure
thou that all the components are acceptable for an apache distribution, since
it's an atlassian repository and atlassian is not really open source).

On a side note the only way to actually get the JIRA download to work is to
manually add to the enabled update centers the old 8.2 Oracle powered UC at:
http://updates.netbeans.org/netbeans/updates/8.2/uc/final/certified/catalog.xml.gz

Otherwise the download JIRA plugin button that appears when trying to setup a
JIRA powered task repository will simply not work.

Regards,
Luca.

Re: [DISCUSS] Apache NetBeans roadmap updates

2018-11-15 Thread Luca Mambretti
I'm also in favor of 2+2 releases.

For me it would also make sense to have only 2 major releases and deliver the
patch release fixes with the current update system, but I see no issue in
delivering 2 patch releases also.

My 2 cents.

This is probably the time to ask: for those of you who encountered
issues when testing, what do you consider to be the most serious issues?
Which issues do you feel need to be addressed before being comfortable
about 10.0 going out the door?

Re: [DISCUSS] Merging back netcat@ into the dev@ mailing list

2018-06-25 Thread Luca Mambretti
My personal opinion is that I would prefer NetCat to stay a separate list,
mainly because of focus, it's true that using proper subjects helps but to me
community acceptance, and development are separate things, and I do think
feedback from the user community should be treated differently than feedback
from the developer community.

That said something from NetCat might be of interest to dev, but most probably
not the other way around (at least that is my feeling on this), so maybe a good
compromise would be to setup some sort of redirect so that NetCat emails would
also be seen by developement and if something is deemed interesting by
developement then by replying to the mail both lists would be involved.

For voting purposes if NetCat has to be included in the voting process then the
voting email might be sent also to the NetCat list, but that could also be
handled using a proper acceptance survey like the ones that were previously
used in the Oracle era, but that maybe is not really in line with Apache
policies.

Luca.

Re-adding netcat@ (ironically! ;-) )

I agree with you that the opinion of the netcat@ list is important.
If part of the point of NetCAT is to engage active / experienced users
in testing, then does bringing that conversation into dev@ discourage
that or not?

It makes sense that everyone on dev@ is subscribed to netcat@, but
does the reverse also apply? Be interested in the input of anyone on
netcat@ who is not on the dev@ list, and the reasons behind that,
before any vote on this.

Best wishes,

Neil

I've actually retried a couple of days ago and it seemed to work as expected,

Hi NetCAT team,

we are close to hosting the Update Center for NetBeans 9.0 on Apache
infrastructure and now we need to find out if it works from as many
countries as possible, because the solution employs a farm of mirrored
download servers located all over our planet. We know that it works from
Czech Republic ;) but how about Italy, Germany, USA, Georgia, Burkina
Faso, you name your country?

Hence, we would appreciate it if you could help us test the basic
scenario described in my last comment in issue #330 [1] or provide your
findings with more complex Update Center usecases.

Re: NetBeanst 9.0 RC1 partial freeze

2018-06-06 Thread Luca Mambretti
I've been trying to crack this for the past few days and was unable to
reproduce a critical freeze, however I keep constantly getting exceptions while
debugging, and after a while I also start having performance issues.

I've been able to constantly reproduce debug issues with spring-boot version
2.0.2.RELEASE, (web and security modules enabled), and JDK 10.0.1, I've
excluded all jpa and persistence related dependencies, but kept the jaxb-api
2.3.0, also I've removed any external server from the loop and just start the
application with it's "Spring powered" main method.

The issue for the debug exceptions is
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-901, it's not blocking anything
at first but I suspect it might have some lingering effects that accumulate
over time, since it seems to be related to the AWT threads.

Luca.

Still trying that unfortunately not for now.

Guess it might be related to debugging a Spring Boot application running on
Java 10, since on Java 8 or lower I never had any issue, at least that's what I
was doing when the first error popped up; if I find a sane way to reproduce
I'll definitely open a bug for that.

One obvious solution should be to create your own library wrapper module for
"beansbinding-1.2.1.jar" (download, or take it from an 8.2 installation) -
works for me. The non-obvious question is the licence. I couldn't find it
anywhere. Does anybody know about the licensing provisions for this jar? [

With insecure licensing, I wouldn't want to ship it in an RCP app.

The IDE starts anyway but with module errors most probably caused by the

Is anyone else seeing something similar??

Re: [maven] Test specs split

2018-03-11 Thread Luca Mambretti
Hi,

I've gone ahead and added some labels, the end result is less than optimal
IMHO, since now the sanity testing label is outdated, cause it has a mix of se
and ee tests, and also points 3 and 7 of the specification are now marked as
javaee, since they require EE projects as a base, these should either be
duplicated to use both SE and EE projects; otherwise we will lose coverage of
the EE related bits, starting the EE server for debugging and checking also the
web resources for refactoring, or we should keep them in the SE label and add a
note for netcat 9 to use an SE project instead of the EE one and skip/ignore EE
bits if necessary.

Hi Eric,

I've started quick reviewing the mentioned test cases, I also expected nothing
or almost nothing would have changed, but there is one thing that bothers me,
practically everything relating to java EE is out of scope for this first
apache run, so some of the cases cannot be covered unless the java EE modules
are pulled from the old repository.

I do not think removing these tests to be wise, since they'll have to be
rewritten as soon as the EE bits are pulled back in, on the other hand running
a full test suite without pulling the EE bits out would involve a lot of
skipping on the tester side, to avoid this maybe we could add a SE,EE label to
the existing cases to drive the testing during the full run, do you think this
would be enough, or it would be better to separate the maven test specification
in 2 separate sections SE and EE, it would require a lot more time compared to
setting only labels on the existing tests, but it would have the added benefit
of splitting up this pretty large test specification in 2 potentially more
manageable ones, con would be that something would most probably have to be
duplicated.

Unfortunately today I've had less time than what I expected so could not cover
much of the specification, but I do hope to have a little more time tomorrow so
I might be able to at least add labels.

Let me know what you think,

Luca
