Re: [newbie] Ethernet Adapter

1999-02-21 Thread Bob Bonifield

I have decided that most likely LANstar is a hoe-dunk poe-dunk company and
doesn't support linux. So I put in my other NIC, a 3com 3c900 "Boomarang".
Now I found the source drivers for it and compiled and installed the
module. But I don't know where to go from here, I dont' know how to see if
the module itself is working. I am taking that it is not, due tot he fact
that the network light on the hub isn't turned out. I do however see the
card as a device my bios picks up when I restart my computer. It is a PCI,
10Mb/s card. Yet again, any and all help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

You will most likely need to compile a modual for linux. Go to the
LANstar site and check to see if they support linux. Or you can look
on your install disk. I am not familiar with LANStar, but not all of
the makers support linux. You will have to check with the maker.
Or alternately purchase a lan card for whom there is support provided
with linux.

[newbie] No parallel ports problem

1999-02-21 Thread Stephen Anderson

I'm having trouble getting my parallel port to function correctly. I am
running Mandrake 5.3 with the 2.2.1 kernel.

Running printtol it warns me that no /dev/lp0, /dev/lp1, or /dev/lp2 were
detected. Under /proc/parport there are no entries. I have compiled
parallel printer support into my kernel as well as parallal device
support. I have tried setting my BIOS parallel port mode to Normal, ECP,
EPP, and ECP+EPP with no apparent difference. The default parallel port
IRQ (as reported by my bios) is 7. I noticed in /proc/interrupts 7 is
listed as assigned to nothing. Any ideas? Thanks!

G'day

A lot of these NIC are NEC2000 compatible, like two of mine from
different manufactures, try the NEC2000 PCI, and see what happens,
assuming it is a PCI, if not yes the no PCI.

Hope this helps

[newbie] Mandrake kernel 2.2.1

1999-02-21 Thread Gael Duval

Hello,

please upgrade to modutils-2.1.121-4.i386.rpm to avoid binary
incompatibility problem (symbol "_bzero not found") when installing
the kernel 2.2.1 on Mandrake systems.

The package can be found on:

ftp://linuxmandrake.com/pub/updates/kernel2.2/RPMS/

When you have downloaded the package, you can install it by typing:

rpm -Uvh modutils-2.1.121-4.i386.rpm

Greets,

Gael.
